Jens Krebs reacted to MikeW in Wasted 209,33€ because of —your— app bug!
I once made a mistake in a drawing and ran 1000 units. A bit more wasted cost than 209,33€. It was a different mistake in a different software. But totally my fault. The shop doing the cutting's moto is "We make it exactly like your file." And they did. I have always checked my output files before and since...but the mistake I made slipped through.
I don't know why the scale was different between your two files. The only time I have had size weirdness in Affinity software was related to the document DPIs.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Cherie26 in Affinity publisher on Ipad
There is no "delay" -- when Publisher cane out in the summer, Serif announced that the iPad version is planned for next year. As we don't have next year yet, everything is as scheduled.

Jens Krebs reacted to Mithferion in Wasted 209,33€ because of —your— app bug!
Whenever a new trainee is assigned to work with me, there are two things I always teach them:
1. Where the restroom is
2. Don’t take anything for granted
Best regards!

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app please note that the beta will install as a separate app alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
The beta is an incremental update to the 1.7.2 store version. We recommend that you use this beta in preference to your store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
If you have any problems using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum.

StudioLink
This beta requires corresponding 1.7.3 Beta versions of Designer and Photo for StudioLink to function. These are not currently available but should be released soon.

Jens Krebs reacted to razorpig in Publisher - Borderless Table
Hi, I must be doing something wrong or overlooking something simple - is there a quick and easy way to create a borderless table ( ie. no table frame or cell borders) ?
UPDATE : Nevermind. Just worked it out.

Jens Krebs reacted to Patrick Connor in How far away is the next round of betas?
iPad releases will need iOS 13 updates and other regressions in the whole range need addressing very soon (IMHO)
Sooner rather than later. Weeks not months away.... but as always, when the developers are ready to release one/them.

It was just a little joke, did not want to annoy you, as I am also eager to see a new Beta. BTW dict.cc has another American English translation for hoe. That was indecent part of the title.

Ooops, didn't see that ... was actually wondering where the quote came from because it's not from my question. Just now realised it's the title ... fixed now.
And my answer with the garden .... that would have been a GREAT reply, had I realised what was happening. I'll just pretend I did,. Let's consider me witty and clever and move on ...

Jens Krebs reacted to Dave Harris in Layout Disappearing -- F*** Publisher!
Ah; the text tool is selected, but there's no blinking text caret. The right-click menu makes that clear. If it was the text menu, it would have text options like Character Traits, and it actually has general object options like Group. So there is a bug, which is that clicking with the text tool in a frame that is past the end of the story doesn't set the caret - it gets confused because there is no text in the frame. Once that has happened it proceeds as I described earlier. It doesn't involve sections. I can reproduce it with a simple document with 2 empty linked frames.
Thanks for reporting it. I'll get this fixed.

Thanks Jens,
I can reproduce it with the file you've sent, not had chance to suss out why yet but I've logged it.

Jens Krebs reacted to thomaso in Pinning settings not copied with object
Actually it seems to work fine as is, because it gives two options: either copy/paste pin object incl. setting – or pin object only but according to custom settings.
It depends on the tool you select to copy: Text or Move Tool.
When using the text tool for selection + copy and then, still with text tool, paste it at a different spot in same or another text frame then it copies the pins' property, too (for instance left or right).
When using move tool to copy and switch to text tool then you leave the pin options window (it gets empty) and then it pastes the object without its setting but according to the custom (or default) setting in the pin options window. If you alter that setting before copy/paste then a copy gets pasted according to that altered setting.

Ofcourse, please upload it here

Jens Krebs reacted to Dave Harris in Layout Disappearing -- F*** Publisher!
This is more or less by design. Generally, when you select a text frame with the Move tool rather than a Text tool, you are not working with a text selection. In this case when you paste, you replace all the text. This was designed mainly for the situation where you have some placeholder text that you want to replace. In Publisher people often design layouts filled with placeholder text, and then later want to replace the placeholder text with real text, and don't want to have to manually select all the text to do it.
If you switch to one of the Text tools, so you have a blinking text caret, the new text will be pasted at the caret position as you want.
I appreciate this has surprised you, and I will log it to be reviewed. Meanwhile, be reassured you have stumbled across a design choice, rather than a bug or Publisher being unreliable or non-functional or unstable.

Doesn't the video of Jens at 1:00 min show the text cursor when he right-clicks for the paste action?

Jens is it possible for you to upload the file you use in the video to here? I couldn't reproduce it with a quick document I mocked up.
Thanks

Jens Krebs reacted to MikeW in Objects “forget“ color swatch
Thanks for listing the gory details concerning global colors, thomaso. I think.
Swatches was one of the first complaints I had when I first got AD. At that time I mentioned the way they work better change by the time APub arrived.
Now I need a drink. Or ten.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Nathan Shirley in PDF text is changed on import
Are you planning on adding pass through?
As mentioned by several people many times it is an essential feature for most publications with ads and elements prepared by other designers. No support would transport Affinity users back into the dark ages of graphic design with incompatible files, large TIFs and illegal font exchange to make things work ...

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Copper Star Media in Publisher Calendar wizard
@Copper Star Media Yes, that's all done manually -- as everything is on one page, it's easy to see if the numbers and days connect.
For a day planner or something similar, I would probably try to find a smart way of misusing page and chapter numbers, make twelve files for the month and put the file name inthe document ... or have an intern do it and fire him the second I spot the first mistake (grin).
But seriously: If you look at it calendars frim an amount of text point of view, it's just about getting 365 numbers right, no impossible task.
