    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Photo 1.10.2 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.10.1 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Affinity Photo Team

    Changes Since 1.10.1

    - Performance improvements for all integrated GPUs. The benchmark version has been changed to 11020, as results are no longer comparable to results from previous builds.
    - Fixed artefacts when using the legacy shadows & highlights filter.
    - Further fixes to the patch tool in LAB mode.
    - Improve panorama stitching when source images have unusual metadata.
    - Improvements to aligning layers by stars.
    - Improvements to astro stacking when images contain large stars.
    - Fixed incorrect import of linear burn blend mode from PSD files.
    - Fixed issues with certain DNG files in the develop persona.
    - Fixes crashes opening certain EXR files.
    - Improved export quality when document contains certain live filters.
    - Fixed crashes with pattern layers.
    - Fixed saturation blend mode issues in 16bit RGB.
    - Assorted other fixes and improvements.
    - Localisation improvements.

On my Mac running OS 11.5.2 it is any selected character, not just a space or punctuation. I never noticed this before in earlier versions but I have to say that I don't think I have actually worked this way with selecting stuff to be replaced.

It's not related to copying and pasting into the Replace field - it can happen if you do the same thing to the text you enter into the Find field. I think the bug happens when any break character such as a space, period, or comma is selected in either field and you choose a special character. If you enter: "abc.def" and select the period and then choose any special character the result will be "def#abc" where # is the special character.

Weird. – If I don't select anything but just have the cursor placed when pasting the non-breaking space then this bug does not happen.

It just means we've updated the beta to recognise 1.10.1 as a 'Purchased Version'. The previous beta build won't validate and run against a 1.10.1 installed via the Mac App Store.

The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac App Store purchases and needs a product key).

@schmidt9 As far as I see there is no "opinion of the Affinity team", just a very polite statement of facts.
Considering how long it took Adobe to bring this to InDesign and that Publisher is currently at version 1.9.3, I find the fact that such big changes are not planned for version 1 anymore reasonable.
My guess is that "spread options" is somewhere on the list of future features, but that things simply have to be prioritised.
Be patient and use other software -- no one is forcing you to use Publisher ifnit doesn't meet your needs. I myself have two regular jobs that I still do in InDesign because no other software can do it the way I need it.
Sending a feature request and giving reasons is fine, complaining is not necessary in my opinion. People from Serif read this forum and I'm sure every feature request is considered and noted down somewhere (except for proper support of 1-bit images). They'll do it when there's time for it.

Due to current and anticipated changes to help with performance issues this version is now 1.10.0 and replaces the previous 1.9.4 beta. All previous changes from 1.9.4 have been rolled into this beta.
As such, we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Designer.

    - Inline pinned objects could appear in the wrong location
    - Fixed Vertical Alignment issue for last cell in Table

    - Convert to Curves for pinned objects could transform objects unnecessarily
    - Honour document colour format when providing clipboard PDF data to other applications
    - Linked images in a packages were not always resolved correctly
    - Fixed crash that could occur when rearranging swatches
    - Find & Replace - first part of saved Replace string not restored

    Changes This Time
    - Fixes for a few emoji issues
    - Improvements to noise rendering when used on colours
    - Fix for inserting an embedded document, which was incorrectly favouring an in-memory version of the document if you were trying to add it again
    - Fix for SVG export failing to correctly deal with stretched text when the user selects 'flatten transforms'
    - Fix for SVG import not functioning correctly with whitespace between the keyword "translate" and the following opening bracket

    Changes Since 1.9.3
    - Potentially huge performance improvements for large documents. We've spent a long time looking at this and have improved performance many-fold for large documents and improved scalability. If you have particular documents that still appear 'too slow' then feel free to share them with me and I'll do my best to look into them
    - Memory handling improvements
    - Support for Emojis in text tools! 😁👌🏻
    - Further performance improvements to general operations
    - Misc text performance improvements
    - SVG import and export tweaks
    - Fixed PDF Export group opacity potentially being applied twice
    - Fixed potential crash when quitting with layers still on the clipboard
    - Fix for Trotec Job Control incompatibility
    - Localisation improvements

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Ideagonal in Copy and Paste of pinning settings
When copying and pasting a pinned object, the pinning settings are not copied and pasted, but Publisher applies the last pinning settings that were used. Would be nice is objects were copied and pasted "as is".
    Sample:
    - insert pinned object (1) into text, set it to "align LEFT"
    - insert second pinned object (2), set it to "align RIGHT"
    - now copy and paste object (1)
    - result: the pasted object (1) is aligned RIGHT even though the copied object was aligned LEFT
    - when pasting from the clipboard, Publisher uses the current settings from the ,pinning' panel instead of copying the objects settings.
