  1. Both links don't work -- please see attached a video showing the homepage as well as the circular icon in the forum footer. I have also tried entering the Twitter website with a backslash and typing "affinitybyserif" manually with the same negative result. Sorry for the large video (60 MB) ... will downscale in the future. screenshot_ 2022-06-28 at 14.13.02.mov
  2. Hope, this is the correct forum for this: I have noticed that the Twitter links on the website stopped working -- when clicking on them, Twitter claims that the account "affinitybyserif" does not exist (see screenshot). I like the poodle and all, but was actually hoping to see some stuff about graphic design software and such ...
  3. Maybe I'm just to stupid or missing something, but it works fine for me -- it's one single line of text (099 sale). When the text box is to small to hold the two 00s and the word sale (see screenshot) the line breaks because of the space between "00" and "sale". When the price has two digits in front, the marked section in the screenshot needs to be set to "2" instead of "1". Another way would be to use "inital words" which could theoretically also steer the colour of the word "sale". I would set everything up with styles (e.g. for setting the word SALE one point higher, just haven't done it in my sample) and also ,pin' the text box with the price to the description. Setting the price text frame to "centered" (Pinning settings) results in the box automatically centering in the text frame when it's pulled larger to fit the longer price.
Warum was Anderes kaufen?
  5. I'm sure Serif is fine -- my personal take on the recent sale is that they want to get as many people on the Affinity software before the (paid) version 2 upgrade which is scheduled for "this summer". Serif has been in the software business for more than 20 years and they know what they are doing. There also have been big updates every 4–6 months for the past six years. Please provide actual sources and proof before spreading rumors like this.
  6. Yes -- it is seven chapters, three styles each. Nesting them is a great idea! Thanks. I could, the customer won't Got that already set up. 🙂
  7. I tried that but it didn't work (the screenshot was taken after experimenting in the afterthought to illustrate my issue). I have found a bit of a workaround: I copy one chapter in a second (empty) document, search for the TEXT STYLE, replace the Format settings to use the new colour (have to complete the whole Decorations setting though, just colour is not possible, as you reckoned) and finally copy the chapter back into the original document — styles stay as they are, applied styles stick too and only the colour has changed. Rinse and repeat for each chapter. Bit of a hassle, but has to do until "Find and Replace" properly covers decorations.
  8. Thanks, Walt, my issue with editing the styles is, that all styles are already applied throughout the book and the decorations need to be of a different colour in each chapter — I would need three different new paragraph styles per chapter. That gets messy fast ...
  9. I am looking for a way to use "Find and Replace" to re-colour paragraph decorations (I don't want to edit the paragraph styles) -- using the "Format" window of "Find and Replace" doesn't come up with any results. Any idea why that is and how I can solve this problem? Is there anything I need to consider in the Format settings? I think I figured out where the issue lies (see screenshot): Different to all the other windows, the "decorations" settings have specific values entered (e.g. 0mm) instead of the "no change" marker that can be found everywhere else in "Find and Replace". Not sure how to circumvent this yet though.
  10. Very exciting -- do you think we'll hear something around WWDC in early June? Would be a nice occasion to show Publisher on iPad ...
  11. @frindley If you just want to use the files for reference, you could use the preview option in the Markzware converter — the previews are free, you only have to pay if you want to actually convert files. Also, the Quark-only option if the software is 'just' GBP 195 (appx. USD 250) for one year and according to the website opens Quark files and can save them as PDF as well as IDML (for Publisher). This is really shitty off Quark by the way -- I cannot properly test a software without saving and exporting (part of my standars test is 'how does it PDF and can my printing guy use it') -- anyways, Quark has been on the downslope for a long time now, doesn't actually matter any more, even though it used ro be a great software (same as Corel Draw -- once an investment corporation gets involved things change for the worse for users).
  12. You cannot have a whole forum section just for complaints. This is not Reddit.
  13. If you take the pictures yourself, use ansingle colour background ... the pattern on your sample makes it tough to use any automation or filters, because the colour of the coffee and the colour of the cup are both somewhere in the background as well. Ideally the background is one single colour that is not repeated on the motive (similar to a green screen in filming). Otherwise cutting out objects is always a bit of a fiddle.
  14. Affinity Publisher is not a web design application -- what you can do is use Designer or Photo to lay out a website and then export the assets (images) and send them to your web design app or your programmer.
  15. Just wanted to let you know that the "Root Box Brochure" in the Publisher workbook contains a SERIOUS error: All pages of the trifold are of the exact same size (in the written tutorial as well as in the downloadable project files) -- however, every designer should know that the page that is folded inwards (called ,panel 3' in the tutorials) needs to be a smidgen smaller (2-3 mm) than the others to fold in properly. I think in a workbook that aims to teach people not only about the software, but also about design basics, this is an essential piece of information that needs to be included -- otherwise either the fold is incorrect or the folded brochure bulges a bit because the inner page presses agains the fold.
  16. Well thank you kindly. I usually select and change rather than placing the cursor, to make sure I don't forget to delete the space.
  17. Affinity Publisher jumbles the search/replace text when adding a special character in the ,replace' field (see video below). 1) Open Find-Replace window 2) Enter text in "find" field 3) Copy that text 4) Paste it in the "replace" field 5) select a character in the "replace" field (in the video a space) 6) select a special character to overwrite the selected character (in the video a nonbreaking space) RESULT: The text in the "replace" field is jumbled EXPECTED RESULT: For the special character to be inserted at the selection and for the remaining text in the field not to change screenshot_ 1.mov
  18. What does this mean? Is there an incompatibility between issue with 10.10.1 (current official release)?
  19. Thanks for the updates -- didn't know it was working now, because so far it has never worked for me (system language English, software in German).
  20. It's a know issue that the number fields don't accept the comma on the numeric keypad as decimal separator when the software is set to "German". The comma is not recognised as decimal separator but as thousands separator as used in English language. I have reported this issue several times since 2014 but it hasn't been fixed yet. You need to use the full stop / dot from the text part of the keyboard for this to work.
