  1. Yes, yes, yes! Maybe just diffrent colours? I have just starting real life work with Publisher and already lost count on how often I accidentally applied (no paragraph style) instead of (no character style).
  2. I prefer one-off payments -- simply because when a subscription ends, I cannot use the software at all and cannot open or edit my own files, without subscribing again. Corel had a decent solution anwhilenago, where subscribers got to keep the most recent version perpetually (but no upgrades and support any more), when thensubscription had lasted at leastntwo years -- I'd be fine with that. As things are, I'm happy to pay every couple of years for a new version (because - contrary to Adobe - I trust Serif putting some nice new features on each big upgrade). Currently Serif is making money by sellong their apps and, through the constant updates and their coverage, expanding their user base. Also, with rougly one new app per year, there's a certain cash flow that holds until version 2.0 where the cycle starts over. This is, by the way, how software was developed until a couple of years ago, with big paid upgrades every two or three years and free smaller updates inbetween -- forces developers to actiäually deliver good updates / upgrades and to manage money a bit diffrently, but it's a better model for everyone in my opinion.
  3. Hi, I have imported an HTML file and used "Find-Recplace" to assign paragraph styles to specific tags. Currently I am cleaning up the file and for some reason, Publsher simply shuts down every time I try to search for ">" and replace it with "nothing". I have narrowed it down to this one character, everything else finds and replaces like a charm. Is there a way i can send you guys the file (confidentially) so you can take a look at it? Edit: It seems to be rather the POSITION from which it's replaced, as I have tried to replace every ">" with a "#" and that worked, Publisher now crashes when I try removing the "#" ...
  4. I think eventually the DAM that Serif has announced for "some time in the future" will Studiolink all three applications. I prefer having the option to buy the software separately, also, Studiolink doesn't include ALL functionality from the applications but (at least for now?) pnly the main persona.
  5. Hi Phil, sorry, should have clarified that ... I was talking about opening the PDF with the Preview App on macOS. The other thing ... don't worry to much about Acrobat, as said, zoom in and it should display fine. Acrobat isn't perfect and versions vary. :o)
  6. If I were to buy a tablet, I'd get an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil.
  7. The "bold" look is an Acrobat display problem -- if you zoom in, it should look fine. I usually double-check in Preview. Easiest way to check is, to directly open the PDF in Publisher or Designer -- if the text is selectable, it's vector. If it's an image, it has been rasterised. You didn't need to slice and split the pages -- when you set the Publisher file to "facing pages", you can place double pages on the spreads and then simply select "export pages" in the PDF export settings.
  8. When you do this, you tell Publisher that you want to keep the paragraph before the headline AND one line (meaning: the headline) together as well ... doesn't work.
  9. I would create an empty document with a sufficient amount of 2-page-spreads and then place the PDF pages one-by-one on the spreads (one PDF page would cover two pages in the new document, covering the spine).
  10. Hi Harry, it would be a fine feature indeed. However, I have never used or needed it in my layout software. Gutters were / are always applied during the imposition process by the printers — gutters depend on the thickness of paper and the accuracy of printing press and binding/cutting machines used, so, in my opinion, the people using the machines should apply them and somfar always have done so. It would be interesting, to display facing pages with a space between them and being able to create/see a bleed for the inner part of the binding (might be tough to pull off though, I don't know any dtp software that can do this and honestly never actually needed it — for me it would be a theoretically real cool thing to show off with, but wouldn't have any real life application).
  11. Thanks, Miguel! Hurray! Didn't find them on the official Vimeo site, SO happy, they are not lost! My critique on the new videos and the suggestion to sell tutorials or courses in the old format still stand.
  12. In the launch event last week, it was said, that Serif is working on an iPad version of Publisher, including StudioLink with Designer and Photo personas, and that it will come out next year. My thoughts: Bringing Publisher to iPad is a big job and I assume it will require iPadOS 13 (more file and folder features, might be needed for linked files and an easy way to install fonts on iPad). Be patient. For the time being you can open and — to a degree — work on Publisher files in Photo and Designer on iPad when you install the newest updates (launched last week alongside Publisher for desktop).
  13. Hey guys, I really, really love that the people creating the software are now recording tutorials and show how to use it. It is a fantastic idea and gives users an opportunity to feel closer to the app than ever. However — the old tutorials were MUCH better to learn how to use Affinity! Some of your own people explain way to slow (in one video my mind strayed and I was thinking about starting a drinking game and taking a shot whenever the person said one specific word, it was really distracting) and I cannot bear to finish a video, some others are to quick and jump over things they consider unimportant, but forget that some people do not know about them without being explained in a bit more detail. In one other video, the recording of the person presenting is hiding / covering the panel they are talking about. My suggestion is to have your programmers record a general overview video for each persona, but to get a professional educator in, to do the tutorials people learn from. If it is about hiring someone, you could sell the videos for a small fee, maybe same a s the software a one-off payment for ALL 1.x content, then again for ALL 2.x content in the future? What really made me sad, is to see that all the old tutorials have been removed from Vimeo — I Learned SO MUCH from them, particularly the isometric drawing one for Designer where an actual project was created was absolutely amazing! I know it is not current any more with the new ISO studIo panel, but the features presented do still exist and besides the perspective, just the information about how to use grids and the drawing tools is still valid and wonderfully presented. Please bring them back!!!
  14. Hi, just wanted to say, that I LOVE the indexing feature in Publisher ... it's wonderful, finally being able to create an index with numerical tags, because that ALWAYS crashes InDesign for me (InDesign only creates alphabetical indexes from A–Z and simply shuts down when I try creating an entry that starts with a number). Just ... hurray!!!!
  15. Aaah, that makes sense ... I installed the 1.7.1 updates but hadn't started the programs yet. Works now. Thanks, Patrick.
  16. Same here ... seems Publisher expects the same kind of license (e.g. everything in the AppStore or everything outside of it). Kinda shitty for pre-purchasers who weren't able to buy in the AppStore in advance. Hope, this gets solved quickly.
  17. I have to work unfortunately ... hope it's recorded for viewing it later. :o)
  18. Sample file "Lifestyle Magazine" Not sure if this is the right place, but I found something odd: When I download the "lifestyle magazine" sample, the whole magazine is set up as RGB and the (black) text converts to respectively shows up as CMYK 75-71-65-80 -- considering Publisher is a DTP software and (at the moment) can't do interactive publications, the file should come in CMYK with proper black (maybe coated with a little extra cyan to make it shine, but not with the colour values currently shown). Also, on the first page the shadow inside the text "FALL FITNESS" is created by placing a second image inside the text -- which is fine if it's for demonstration purposes, but it's much easier to achieve the same effect by using the filter "colour dodge" from the layers panel. With the added advantage, that the shadow adjusts automatically when the text is moved (as it's currently set up, when I move the text, I have to manually match the images position with the position of the shadow on the cover image, otherwise it doesn't fit). Page 18/19: The text flow around the building is BEAUTIFUL, but when I move the image (or the text frame) the text flow stays at exactly the same place, doesn't adjust to either the text frame or image position ... it's as if the text is wrapping around an invisible object that I can't find (text wrap settings are greyed out when I select the text frame and there's no object in the layers panel that the text could flow around. Maybe I'm just in a mood today ... I'll go to bed an continue playing with the samples tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be better after eight hours sleep. :o)
  19. Downloading now. Can hardly wait for the roadmap and to find out what the Designer and Photo personas do ... :o)
  20. Are you seriously thinking about spending or not spending $40 for a pro level dtp software because you THINk there MIGHT be a paid update next year or not? Either you like Publisher and want to spend the money, or you want to wait until it has a specific feature that you are currently missing and wait until then. Don't overthink what could be and that you could be disappointed about something that might or might not happen next year and could or not could cost you 40 bucks that you don't need to spend if you don't need or want the new features or not that might or might not get programmed ... this kind of doubt and overthinking just makes you unhappy.
  21. I think it's pretty simple: When you have facing pages, it's best to use a facing pages master page, when you work with single pages, use single page master pages. That Publisher is able to mix them up just shows it's versatility and I can image use cases where that might come handy. To be honest, I cannot imagine why someone with a facing pages document would even use single page master pages or vice versa without having a plan and knowing why they do that. In my opinion, it's neither the developers nor the softwares task to protect someone from 'getting confused' — either one knows how to use a dtp software and how to set up pages, or one doesn't and then either learns or does something else.
