Mediafuel got a reaction from Yannig in AP - Can I copy and Paste Guides?
    Hello

I am working on a series of product images. These images will be displayed side by side in a web shop. The finished images are simple composites made up of two separate images. I want to make each of the finished images have the same proportion and product positions. I am using guides to do this. Rather than go through the process of setting up guides for each of the different product documents, is there a way I can copy and paste guides from one document to another?

    Cheers

Thanks for the info and tips.

Probably waaaaay down on the list of dev work... but intuitively I wanted to copy and paste the details from the Guides Manager in one document to another. The other thing I wanted to do was resize the window or dock it somewhere convenient. If I had a second monitor then dragging it off the main screen would be nice.

I do like how the Guides Manager stays open when switching between documents.

I have 12 of these composite images to produce, so have created a custom grid to overlay as a layer in each document.

    Cheers

A trick I just came up with:
reduce the length of your dashed line bellow 0.2, I am using 0.1 as length of the dashed line with a stroke width from 2pt. The dashed gap I set to 2, and that's it.
This not ideal but as long as dotted line is not implemented will be using this for mockups !!!! Would be thankful if the Affinity Development Team would implement this soon!

just a bit of fun.  main work done in designer the eye of the feather was created in designer then edited in photo.  I really like how I can go into photo apply a live filter and then come back into designer and have that live filter in designer and editable.

Mediafuel reacted to Hokusai in Daruma
Just thought I would share a vector illustration that I recently did in Affinity Designer for some nengajo (Japanese New Years cards) that I was working on. For those not familiar with the Daruma (doll), they are normally sold at temples (and some stores carry them) and people buy them when they have a goal that they want to strive for. When you buy the Daruma, it has two blank eyes and you draw one eye in when you start trying to achieve your goal and then you draw the second eye in once you have achieved your goal. I remember reading that the Russian Matryoshka dolls were inspired by the Daruma doll but I don't know if this is true or not?

    Hey Everyone,
Just felt like posting what I was hoping would be included in the previous contest for promotional artworks but I didn't make it. Understandable because the material is a little risque but here it is in all its glory.
This was created in Affinity Designer with a mix of Vertor shapes used as a mask in the Draw Persona and painting in the Pixel Persona.

It looks like you're off to a good start. I always find that trading card designs are a challenge because of the need to get lots of information across in so small a space.
It's difficult to know what sort of advice to give as I have no idea where you want the design to get to but I have a few comments/questions/suggestions:
Will the number in the tear drop go above single figures? If so, I would suggest making the text smaller. And maybe change the text colour too. Is the tear drop shape significant? Will other shapes also be used? Have you checked how they will look together (even though they probably will never be shown together)? It might be an idea to put the name of the character on some kind of long banner across the top of the card but behind the tear drop. Nothing too conspicuous but something to take it off the background. It also might be good to rotate/skew the text a bit to give it a more dynamic feel. The text in the bottom panel has too much space below it. You could either centre it vertically or change the text slightly to fill the panel more. Or you could come up with some "filler graphic" that can be optionally used when you have extra space. Have you thought about making some of the elements overlap? You can sometimes get a better overall look if elements overlap rather than them all having their own separate space. Maybe make the Viking bigger and put some of him under the bottom panel. The background of the panel might look better if it was more in-tune with the overall theme of the card rather than being so "stark". Making it a dark texture or a slightly blurry and dark image of a Viking hut (or something similar like a barren landscape) might be good. There doesn't seem to be enough information on the card to make a game out of. What extra information might you be adding and where will it go? I hope I've not said anything out-of-line and I'm looking forward to seeing the next version.

Affinity Designer is hands down the best graphic program I've ever used. I've dabbled with a lot of programs since I was young, but am mainly a programmer. Having a tool as thoughtfully designed as Affinity Designer turned what could have been a very painful process into one I absolutely loved.

    One way...
    1. Add new pixel layer at top of the stack
    2. Change layer blend mode to colour
    3. Zoom in to Glasses area
    4. Select Brush Tool, set Opacity and Hardness to 50%
    5. Choose colour for Brush Tool by sampling the correct skin colour near to the purple bits
    6. Paint over the purple bits
As you move around the purple bits you will need to resample the skin colour for those bits if it is different from the originally sampled skin colour
You can toggle the new pixel layer off and on to see your progress

Mediafuel reacted to VectorVonDoom in The Image I’m Submitting For 1.6 Promo, VW Golf GTI 1.6 (AD)
I was going to do this drawing in Illustrator but read about Serif/Affinity wanting images for their 1.6 promo material so thought I’d give AD a try for the first time. This will be my submission and it so happens the GTI had a 1.6 engine early on.

Hopefully any Golf aficionado will recognise it as an imaginary custom series 1 Mk1 Golf GTI (1.6l 8v) in Miami blue. It’s been de-wipered, lowered, smoked lights, chrome bumpers, no arches and some really nice alloys you can’t see! I couldn’t decide on the colour, either Mars red or Miami blue. Obviously went with blue but the body just uses a single global colour so easy to change my mind later.

All in all it went fairly smoothly, if you know Illustrator you pretty much know AD. Some things I really liked, one thing I really didn’t (I’m looking at you layers palette).  Overall it was fun and good practice. Never used so many gaussian blurs before.

As it's bank holiday weekend I've a little time to go back to it and tweak it if I decide I need to.

It's nothing clever and the polygon fad might have passed but it was fun to do.  Most use a very low polygon count and just something like a face but I like to make it more complicated for myself, not necessarily better though. I had already done a version but wasn't happy with it so this is my new attempt.

A tip is to duplicate the layer(s) and perhaps add a tiny bit of blur to the background copy. That fills in the minute gaps between the shapes and the output's much nicer.

Click on it then click "full size" and it's not so blurry.

Mediafuel reacted to Hokusai in The Siren
Just wanted to share my take on what was originally a Hokusai ukiyo-e print (Hokusai Katsushika, 1760 - 1849, not me). I'm sorry I can remember the original name of this print but I thought Siren was a good name for it (but keep in mind that is the name of my version and not the actual name of the print that mine is based on). I saw it somewhere on my travels and I snapped a shot of it but the print was not in very good shape so I decided to recreate it using Designer. While Hokusai is most famous for his "Great Wave at Kanagawa" he made thousands of prints and there are many that are just as incredible as the "Great Wave".

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work,
    Hokusai (not Katsushika)
