Workaround: For each cross-reference, create a pair of small text frames.
The first will be added to the source page, where you might have, for example, "See page <whatever>". You will Pin that frame inline, to contain the page number (the "<whatever>" part of the reference).
The second will be Pinned to the target page, at the reference spot. This frame will be empty.
Link the two frames, so the first would flow into the second. Then, in the first, use Text > Insert > Fields > Next Frame Page Number.
You could probably create the pair of frames, with content in the first frame, and make them an Asset. But you would then need to drag the second frame onto the proper page, which may be tricky.

A "Me Too" here. I want to move from PPX9 for producing my next book and I don't think I can do that without the Float with text anchoring feature. It's a software tutorial/manual and getting on for 700 pages.
It's on the roadmap - great :-) - but are we talking over six months? If so, I better stick with PP :-(

Nobody will be forced, but many people have planned to transfer their workflow from PagePlus to AP. When I heard that PP would be withdrawn in favour of AP I put on hold a decision to change publishing programs because I assumed that AP would have the same functionality. I use PP to create a 700+ page book each year and updating it without inline graphics would be a nightmare.
If AP isn't going to have inline graphics, I could have swapped to, and learned, another publishing program at least a year ago. I also bought AP and AD because they would integrate with AP.
I expected that some features might no make the first release - perhaps Indexing or TOCs - but not being able to anchor my illustrations to the text they refer to is a huge ommision.
That's a reason to be dramatic

I was very pleased to find that copy and paste of text between PagePlus and AP brought my test styles across and put them in the styles drop-down!
    Thanks Serif :-)

    Hi Jeffjn,

In Affinity Photo, select the Crop Tool, then on the Context Toolbar (top) select Straighten. You then click drag along the line to make straight and then release, it will auto adjust and you can then use the Crop options.

I know this is probably because of my sloppy workflow, but I often end up with many designs open at the end of a session. (I'm mostly bringing in screenshots and labeling them.

To this end I've found the Close All feature in Photoshop useful. Any chance this could be added to Designer?
