LilleG reacted to MattP in [AD] Vector persona eraser tool
Or if you have a graphic tablet with an eraser tip on the end of the pen, just turn the pen over to the eraser end and it'll automatically choose the Erase tool - even in Draw Persona :)

LilleG reacted to MEB in [AD] Vector persona eraser tool
Currently there's no way to delete vectors like in Illustrator as Ronnie said.
However, there's no need to create a mask manually (unless you want to cover all the drawing with it). Just change to the Pixel Persona, select the Erase Brush and paint over your vector shapes. Make sure you have a layer or an object selected in the Layers panel. Affinity Designer will create and attach a mask to the layer or object selected automatically for you.

LilleG got a reaction from Alfred in Symmetry tool for creative painting
Thanks, Alfred. That's a very helpful and encouraging video. I know how to do most of the things I want to do in Photo but my copy of Designer has been neglected till now. This (along with the workbook!) is even more reason to dig in and really learn how to use this fantastic app.

It´s a neat feature - no question but no replacement for a dedicated symmetry painting implementation in my humble opinion.
(I´m used to work with SketchBookPro/ArtRage/Krita and a few more :D )

LilleG reacted to evtonic3 in First Attempt At Styles
Just trying out some setting and came up with a few that I thought I'd share. Really just playing with settings again. If you click scale with settings you should get better results on these.
Hope you see the setting and maybe come up with your own.

LilleG reacted to Solly in What do I buy?
Oh my. I guess most of the members of this forum have not experienced the era of fees required of each user on each workstation. Indeed, if one worked on two workstations of the same OS, it was two different licenses. The same three people working on three workstations required nine licenses! A big advance came with the hardware lock—a device that plugged into the parallel port that allowed access to the program. Now three users still needed three such locks, but the lock could be carried from workstation to workstation. Oh, if the lock were lost, one was required to repurchase the program at full price. Then there was the UNIX licensing daemon that required constant feeding every few months as subscriptions expired and required reactivation—those codes were very long and complicated. Those were sure great times. ;-)
I am delighted with Serif's exceedingly reasonable pricing policy!
Cheers,
Joseph

Actually, that is not true. They have tried to preserve feature parity across the two platforms as much as is possible but the software code itself is of necessity substantially different & is being developed by two different teams. Since that greatly increases development costs, for the company to remain in business (& to continue to be able to offer free updates), there is no way they could sell cross-platform licenses without charging much more for them.
On the Mac side, they also would need to develop versions with some alternative anti-piracy provisions to replace the ones built into MAS purchases, also increasing costs because there would be three variants (Windows, Mac-MAS, & Mac non-MAS) to support. That in turn would necessitate different variants of the customer betas. They also would have to pay for hosting services to replace or supplement those provided by Apple for MAS purchases, & so on.
The bottom line is, like the saying goes, there is no free lunch -- one way or another customers have to pay a fair price for high quality software development, distribution, & support. If you take a little time to browse through this forum you will find that the overwhelming majority of users think Affinity's prices are more than fair, that they are in fact unusually good bargains.

LilleG reacted to Luzifr in LEGACY: Official Affinity Photo (Desktop) Video Tutorials
I also wanted to tell you how excited i am not only about your fantastic two apps, but also the quality of the video-tutorials! They are simply perfect! It's hard to believe, that there finally is a company out there who cares about and listen to customers again! After using software from Adobe since 1993 you deliver what they never did (and even Macromedia did not). Simple videos, where even everybody can still learn a lot - well, and we can always learn something. Has anyone seen those crappy so called tutorials of Adobe? The videos from Serif made me watch one after the other! Please dear Affinity-team: keep up the fantastic work be it software or tutorials or whatever. Thank you for your hard work! Finally time to say goodbye to Adobe … :)

LilleG reacted to James Ritson in LEGACY: Official Affinity Photo (Desktop) Video Tutorials
Well, being on YouTube as well as Vimeo should help expose the tutorials to a greater audience; many customers are unaware that the Affinity apps even have official tutorials! Vimeo is also blocked in certain countries as it tends to allow and promote risqué content from filmmakers.
Whichever platform you prefer, though, the videos will be available on both - so you'll still be able to download the videos and watch them offline.

Thanks James,
but i'll be sticking with the vimeo links. Working away on vessels means downloading while onboard is not an option.
Far easier for me to download before I leave - and then I can watch how I want, when I want - with no wifi connection needed.

LilleG reacted to Hokusai in Add a Lighter/Brighter UI-mode (implemented)
As someone who finds the current dark theme visually pleasing, the new lighter UI shown in the video that MEB posted a link to also looks very nice. So nice that when it comes out, I might use the lighter one! I think it is great that the developers are letting us, the users, choose what works best for us. Way to go developers! I'm looking forward to 1.6! Is there a list anywhere of features that are going to be included in 1.6?

Oh, I completely forgot to mention in the recent new video post, but the Brushes video has also been re-recorded; I've always cringed at the original video with just the raw brush strokes on a white background, so I knuckled down and made it a bit more contextual for image editing:

LilleG reacted to manu schwendener in Colour removal
Hello Bill
Welcome to Affinity Photo :-)
This is what I tried: set the photo to black and white (in adjustments) and all the colour sliders to the right.
Or: set the photo to black and white, then go to 'brightness / contrast' (also in adjustments) and set them to 100%.
If anybody has another solution but no picture at hand: feel free to use
http://manuschwendener.tumblr.com/post/26297108788, clicking brings you to a bigger size.

Yes, this is the actual “request” area, viceverser … as witnessed by the fact that this subforum is called “Feature Requests” … ;)
But thank you for adding your voice to this thread. Yes, we need that function … so badly … :) ^_^

If anyone is interested in a closer look at my workbook tutorial contribution follow the link below.
I uploaded a few images of the finished piece (for the tutorial you'll have to grab the book ;-) ...along with some information on the tutorial in general and some of what you can expect from it and the book.
I was honoured to be asked to participate in the project and I can honestly say the book is gorgeous and chock full of great stuff, art and information! The Serif team has really created a beautiful, well designed user manual that just happens to double as a coffee table book!

It won't be my used book, though, I've just just been browsing through the tutorials/projects and I am amazed at the detail and depth and the care that has gone into this. :)

LilleG reacted to Sunset in Affinity Designer Workbook
Have to love insomnia, working my way through the Affinity Designer Workbook, picking up little things that I hadn't noticed before and finally understanding the purpose of artboards! I've designed three colourways of the logo for my new imaginary company and I am waiting for my imaginary client to choose one and pay me some imaginary money. Imagine is the key word with this new book, it banishes the 'white page" syndrome and feeds my imagination.

LilleG reacted to Mr. Haze in Affinity Designer Workbook
Congratulations on the release of your AD workbook. Based on what I've seen so far, it's very impressive and professional looking, and looks to include quite a lot of good useful information. My question is, will it be available in local bookshops at some point in the future? Say, all the way over here in Canada via Chapters Indigo? Tariffs are a major pain on the wallet.
I know you currently have no digital edition planned, but I would like to recommend in the future a digital edition that could be made available to those who purchase a physical copy of the book. This way, when the time comes in the future to make changes or edits, while it would be impossible to update the physical book without a new release, the digital edition could be easily updated at no physical cost to Serif. Plus, sooner or later, as much as we hate the idea, a digital edition will be made available illegally online. Beat them to the punch by releasing your own legal digital edition. it will most likely still pop up illegally online, but your users will be more likely to get it through you than risk their computers' security on questionable sites.
