I'm with retrograde. A Off/On toggle would be great for those times when handles serve no current purpose other than just getting in the way!

Having to scroll through selections and options because there is not enough room in the open panel to show them all is a right royal pain. It would be extremely handy if there was an option to collapse each panel to a single label row then have one (or more) expand when selected. There are a number of panels that I don't use that often but take up room that squeezes panels I'd like to see all of. I could turn those off but turning panels on and off is also a pain when you have to go to View>Studio>panel each time you open or close one. There are other panels that I would like to see all of without scrolling when selected. Swatches, for example, and Brushes. Layers and Adjustments. I don't need those all open at the same time; I do need to see all of them when they are open.

Yes! Plus + for this! (I know, it's not a vote but ...) Having to scroll down again and again is one of the most irritating things about this UI. I really wish they'd take a page from Photoshop and have an option to have all panels as small icons that pop out when clicked. It gives you more screen space and some of us could use that.

I use PhaseOne's MediaPro as my DAM but I've never processed RAW in it. For that, I've always used Nikon Capture NX2. Recently however, I tend to use Develop Persona in Affinity. It does a good job and it's handy to just take the image right into Photo persona for finishing.

I actually bought a new-er machine and upgraded from Snow Leopard (which I loved) to Mountain Lion (which I don't but it's less obnoxious than Yosemite) just so I could run Affinity Designer. I still run Snow Leopard in a partition because my older, can't afford to upgrade, version of Painter won't run in ML. It's a minor PITA switching from one OS to the other but I'm happy enough with Designer and Photo, especially with all the continuing improvements, to make the transition worthwhile.

Well, that's a relief. I just indulged in some serious menu-crawling, trying to find Document Setup. :) Didn't especially need it at the time, just wanted to know how to do it. It does need to be implemented in Photo as well though.

Thank you, stokerg! We've been begging for a PDF version of the Help for a while now. I was beginning to think that no one was listening or if they were, could not see the benefits of being able to read it someplace besides within the program.

Ah, maybe a device has to be physically plugged in. Or could be just a weird glitch in my OS...I am still running Mountain Lion and it does have issues at times.

Thank you, Mark! I did not know exactly how Mesh Warp worked and was muttering to myself that it wasn't as precise as the one in Photoshop. Ha! Was I ever wrong. Guess I need to do more reading in the Help. Wish the Help was a bit more "readable" (as in a PDF that one could just read at leisure.)

Paul, is your Epson plugged in directly to your computer? File>Acquire Image is not picking up my shared wireless HP. It doesn't recognize my iPhone either. Haven't tried my camera. Or am I mistaken about what sort of "Devices" it should recognize?

Thanks, Callum. It does, a bit. I'm looking for the kind of effect that one can get with a real brush (or with Corel's Painter) where lifting the brush at the end of the stroke gives a rounded beginning and a sharply tapered end. I can get a bit of the texture of Painter's oil brushes by judicious use of the Effects panel (3-D in particular) but the blunt beginning and end of the strokes destroy the illusion.

Does a pressure-sensitive tablet allow you to make brush strokes that are tapered at the begging or end? Is that what I need to achieve this kind of stroke, or is that not possible in Affinity Photo currently? I have a non sensitive tablet and I don't want to upgrade if it isn't going to do what I need.

It would not be safe if you foolishly thought that Auto-Save was actually saving your file for you at specified intervals so that you didn't have to do it manually all that often. Then you decide to quit that file when you've made no changes since your last "supposed" Auto-Save. Yes, the program prompts you to manually Save at that point. But it will also do that if you bring in a file, look at it, make no changes whatsoever and then start to close it. In that case you ignore it. Which is what you also do...if you thought that AutoSave was your friend and helper.
It's not that we...not that I, I should speak only for me...need the program to save itself for me. I don't, and I usually turn them off. But since this one not only can't be turned Off but has user-adjustable intervals, I decided to rely on it to save interim changes. That fact that I hadn't lost anything because of that is sheer luck. What is does do is a great feature to have and I appreciate that it's there. But it should be renamed to reflect what it actually is...an Emergency Save or Crash Save

Do you mean that you can only access that file under those conditions? If so, for heaven's sake, why not have a true Auto-Save instead of something that just sounds like one and misleads users into thinking their data is safe when it isn't? Or am I misunderstanding your post, Dave?

We understand that Apple's policy makes it more difficult for developers to accommodate users with "needy" eyes but Apple is not much for listening to user complaints lately. I guess they listen well enough; it just doesn't change anything. We'll prolly still be complaining about migraines and achy eyes using Affinity Photo 6 if we have to wait on Apple to change.
