  1. I'm sure it's just one more Mountain Lion issue but Search in Help has never worked for me. No matter what term I enter, the gear just spins and spins. I wind up opening Help and scrolling till I find what I need.
  2. Thank you for this. It's great to have it available like this.
  3. Good job on a difficult subject. Wires on brick are a pita!
  4. You captured her essence beautifully.
  5. Bopped back into PS. You can start from center in either an elliptical or rectangular selection by holding Option while dragging. In Photo, this key combo is assigned to Subtract. However, Subtract is already an option on the context bar, while there is no way to start a selection from Center. It would be nice if Start from Center could be added to the Context bar.
  6. Thanks, Miguel and Asha. I discovered, after posting, that I can do what I want by creating the selection on a separate pixel layer and using the Move tool to transform/position as desired, then Merge Down to apply it to the layer below. No faster and no easier, just another method.
  7. I do this so seldom that I can't remember how to do it in Photo (or even if it's possible in Photo.) In Photoshop, when creating a selection, I can drag to size it. As long as I do not release the mouse, I can press Space to reposition it, then release Space and continue to size the selection. As long as I don't release the mouse, I can go back and forth as many times as needed. If this is possible in Photo, what is the correct modifier key? I don't want to move what's contained in the selection at this point, I just want to reposition and/or resize the selection area. In a related question, is it now, or will it ever be, possible to select the starting point of a selection? For rectangles, starting at one corner as it does is fine but for a circle, it would be easier (at least for me) to position it properly the first time if one could specify the center as the starting point.
  8. I'm glad the UI works fine for you. However, it does not work fine for a number of us who have less than perfect eyesight or who simply find that the most legible color combination is black on white. We are not asking for a universal change, just the option to chose a light UI that works for us as well as the dark one does for those who prefer it.
  9. Why would newbies or anyone else who's not needed it before now "understand where it is now"? If there's any logic to putting a Layer Command under Documents instead of Layers, I fail to find it. Things like this, small as they are, make it hard to get up to speed on a new program or on one that is constantly evolving and improving as this one is.
  10. I had missed those options also. I knew about rotate but I'd never seen the Skew arrows. Possibly because they are tiny and so is the travel before they disappear on you.
  11. I did a screen grab of the boys' faces and did a quick and dirty "fix" on that. I mostly used the InPainting Tool set to a size only slightly larger than the individual segment of a blemish. For a few areas, I used the Clone Tool with a low opacity and a Hardness of zero. In addition I used the Burn tool set on Mid-Tones and 5% opacity to add a little definition to the boys' eyes. Like I said, it's slow and tedious but it can be done with patience. Or perhaps someone with a has a quicker easier method will chime in. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10351644/kids.jpg
  12. Did you try the InPainting Tool? In addition to it, I would use the Clone tool to select similar areas to the damaged ones on the children themselves and brush the individual corrections in using small increments. Blemish removal should prolly work well enough on the background Restoring old damaged photos is a tedious and time-consuming and multi-step process. Could you post the image so it can be downloaded? That way some of us could show you what we would do.
  13. Congratulations, Katie! Your Christmas just got a lot merrier! :)
  14. Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't work though. Prolly just another goofy 10.8.5 response. I also tried creating a new one. Same thing. No icon at all but it works perfectly so I don't really need icons.
  15. Bump! I don't want to change the default shape; the styles I created have no icon at all. I can use the styles; I can rename them, or delete them but there is no icon above the name. If I click above the name, I get a gray rectangle and the style activates. What am I doing wrong? I used the "Add Style from Selection" command.
  16. That's not what I mean. When I created the user style, it had no icon at all. Just a blank gray rectangle that appears when you hover over it then click on when you want to apply it.
  17. I can create a new style by using Add Style From Selection. And I can Rename the style. But how do I create an icon for it?
  18. I don't know how difficult it would be to implement but it seems like it would be extremely handy to have. Especially if it could be document-specific and saved with a document-in-progress.
  19. I don't do Facebook but I tweeted. And I've already been bragging about how good both Photo and Designer are to anyone who couldn't walk faster than me. :)
