Yes, you can do this.... if your box is converted to a curve.
Just use the Node tool and select everything you want to move.

Looks nice to me. My daughter does tattoos, as well as traditional arts, and has been doing the "watercolor" style tattoos for a couple of years. They are currently fairly popular, but she does advise her clients that they tend to fade away faster than traditional line art. I just spent some time looking at pics of my daughter's work, and her husband's, and it appears that while very fine lines can be made, they never finish quite as sharp as what you did w. some of the line art. Also, I think they both sometimes put their designs on a kind of paper that transfers the image to the clients skin.  Hopefully the chosen artist has sufficient skill, and equipment to pull it off.

Cool. My daughter and SIL do tattoos, and use Procreate. Been hinting they should look at Affinity. I'll have to point this out to them.

gdenby got a reaction from Phojoegraphy in Designer iPad - Is there a way to import Color Swatches?
    Hi, Phojoegraphy,
I was able to air drop a swatch file, and the swatch file showed up in the "files" window. But nothing showed up that I could find in the swatches.  Then I air dropped a file w. a document swatch. I had to close the current opened document, and then the file came thru. At this point, I have at least the document swatch file. Gotta go do something else, but try closing any open document, like a blank canvas, which seems to drop it from the file list, and then receive an air drop.

gdenby got a reaction from Natalie K. in Info about open/closed paths in Affinity Designer
    Hi, Natalie K,
Shapes in Affinity Designer are defined by a series of co-ordinates that are set down from the 1st to the last. This can be called a path, tho' the software will call both a sharp edged path and a smooth rounded shape a "curve." Or, in some cases "curves."
One should not confuse these paths/curves with a mark on the screen. If one switches the view to outline, one will see a skeletal view. Nothing but a thin black line formed by the various nodes, which would appear if using the node tool on the object(s).
From this base, Designer can assign both a fill, and/or a stroke. Depending on what tool was used, and what parameters are activated, there may be either a solid plane shape which is only a fill, or a line that is just a stroke. Many users assume that seeing a stroke is a shape all by itself. It is not. It is only the stroke aspect of the shape, which has a start and end point whether those are joined, a closed shape, or unjoined, and open shape. On open path can appear as an unfinished perimeter. If one uses the "close path" widget while using the node tool, the 1st and last nodes will create a continuous perimeter.
    Hope this clarifies.

Most of his work, which was the finest pulp out there, went out of print. My copy of "Tiger!" fell to pieces, and it was maybe 15 years before I could find a re-print. Supposedly, it has been optioned for a film. As time goes by, it will seem somewhat less astonishing, but some of the special effects would still need to be on the order of "Valerian" expensive. And the protagonist is, at 1st, a monster of revenge and totally immoral. If the screenplay was faithful to the original, the rating would probably be abysmal.
Erm, sorry to drag the thread off topic..

Here's what I know. The only licensing issues I know about are for using multiple copies for a business. The work produced w. the tool is your own. Affinity exports to standard file formats. The ownership of those is between you and the client.

Good work, would make a decent book cover. Err, are books still printed? You make me feel so ancient. I played Bungie's Marathon, but Destiny, Grand Designer, Modo, had to look it all up. The tools keep getting better.
Having started reading sci-fi in '57, I have to ask, have you ever read "The Stars My Destination"?

Or a curves adjustment on a grey scale .tiff? No need to fill, just adjust the grey levels to a color tone.

The selection brush w. snap to edges turned on will quickly grab the background. Then "Edit/Fill" will replace the shaded areas w. a flat color.

I'm perplexed. You were asking about how to fill a square w. dots of different sizes. But the next image was what appears to be an 8-bit dither of a fade across a gradient. AFAIK, AD will do it, tho not all pixellated. I suppose AP would do it also, but I wouldn't know how to force an 8 bit dither.

Another approach. Use dotted lines. Set any point size, set spacing, set phase, shape lines an dots will adjust. Use expand stroke to get individual objects if you need them.

gdenby reacted to R C-R in Why is afphoto file so massive when saved?
The native Affinity file format is designed for in-app responsiveness, not size. This includes things like storing pre-calculated mipmaps, relying on serialized data structures, optionally storing many history steps & snapshots for instantly restoring a file or part of it to a former state, & so on. Some file data is compressed, but this is done using lossless compression algorithms that are not as efficient at saving file space as the lossy kind used in JPEGs.
In addition to that, JPEGs store everything in a single 'flat' rasterized layer at 8 bit color resolution, while the native format can support hundreds of various kinds of layers at much higher color resolutions (up to 32 bit, depending on color model) which can increase file sizes exponentially.

First time posting here! I've been using AD for almost a year, and it's now my go-to for pretty much all of my graphic work.
Here's a piece I recently whipped up that's part of a sci-fi series I'm working on. Obviously, it's inspired by old propaganda posters. That, and a heavy dose of Ray Bradbury.

gdenby got a reaction from Alfred in "Chain lines" in Designer?
    Hi, lenelg,
Perhaps someone who has used SerifDraw will comment, but from what I can find from online tutorials, in AD they'd just be a textured image brush. Not exactly vectors along a path. One can create vector objects, save them off as .png files, and use them singly or multiply as a brush that works w. the vector brush, or any vector stroke.

At present, AD only supports vectors along paths which are fonts. That works w. dingbat and image fonts, if you have any of those.

gdenby got a reaction from tterihaj in How to make this package design?
    Hi, tterihaj,
The file confuses me some. It starts w. the main wedge. It seems to be close to 45 degrees, but not quite. I can't tell, but I think it is 44.2 +/- .05. That makes every thing hard to line up.
Also, the "measures" are oddly constructed. Seems to be a bunch of thin overlapping rectangles. Polygons w. corner nodes overlapping should allow better placement of object on upper layers.
I have to take care of something else just now, but will try to get back in an hour or so with some solutions.

gdenby got a reaction from tenniseric98 in Affinity Photo vs Affinity Designer
Both will do the job.  Designer is great for making tight vector shapes for logos or that can contain photo bit maps, and can do some color adjustments. Also, it has built in art boards set up for printing use.  Photo has some of the vector tools, but has a much larger set of filters and adjustments, far beyond retouching. Not really an answer, I guess.
Download the trial versions, and see what you can do. Each is limited to 10 days, so do one after another if you don't have lots of time each day for the trials.
