I haven't done much in Affinity Designer while I've had it but I made this a couple of days ago and really like it. The top one is the first version I made and the second one (which I prefer because it's cleaner) is one that I turned white and went over the lines with the pen tool.

    Hi Gabriel

Mac version 1.0 (well, the first beta, anyway) of Affinity Photo was released in February 2015.
Windows version was released November 2016, and both platforms were brought up to version 1.5 (using the same core code).

So far, we (as users) are looking forward to the 1.6 release (along the lines of "it will be released when it's ready").

I suspect there is no official release date planned yet for v1.7, let alone v2, so I don't think there can be an official answer for you.

    Hi Gabirel,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You only have to pay for major upgrades (v2, v3, etc). All minor updates are free.

    There are no foolish questions...

The Pen Tool gives you more control over your lines. You have to place each point individually and thus define the shape of each path with a great level of precision. You can assign pressure profiles, but you can't control them directly (the width) while you draw them. The result is pure vector paths.

The Pencil Tool gives you freedom. You don't place nodes individually. You draw the lines in their entirety. It leads to more expressive paths, like in hand-drawing. You can control their width with pressure sensitive tablets while you draw them. But, they are still simple lines (paths) with variation in width. The result is pure vector paths. It's great for inking or free-drawing where the expressiveness given by the width variation is important (cartoons; for example).

The Brush Tool is similar to the Pencil Tool regarding the freedom to control the tool while you draw. But, here you can attach a bitmap texture to create a multitude of organic/natural effects. The pressure (or other controller) define how those strokes will be drawn. The result is a bitmap based stroke. If you zoom in enough you will start to see the smoothing effect applied by AD to the pixels (to avoid pixelation). So it's wise to use high-res textures if you want to keep the detail of the texture used to create the brush. There's a multitude of uses for this, but the end goal is to get a more natural, less synthetic look. Since you can create you own brushes, it allows a more personalized/distinct result. It lets you develop a style if you will.

In all the three cases you can still change to the Node Tool to correct/adjust the nodes/paths created by those tools, which gives you more control than painting/drawing directly with pixels.

    Hi Gabriel2112 (Nice Rush reference ;) )

Are you selecting one of the circular nodes (it will appear bigger than the others) on the gradient line? You have to select one before you can change its colour. Failing that would you be able to attach the document you are struggling with so we can take a look?

    Thanks

    gabriel2112,

That's a great start in affinity, thanks for sharing.

If you had any problems while making your designs then please don't forget to post your findings to the Windows beta forum. Issues found in real projects are very welcome. Bugs in the beta forums are likely to be commented on by the developers and/or the QA team.

Any questions about existing features can be placed in the Questions section, and suggestions or improvements in the Feature Requests section.

It's not very impressive but I was pretty proud of it :) . I'm using the Windows Beta version.

Also kinda inspired by TesseracT's Polaris album cover if you know them.

    Hi @ all,

I'm a newbie in Affinity Designer and this is my forst post here. My name is Ernie and I'm an old school Grafik Designer, Typesetter and Printer from Germany, Bavaria.
For my work I use several programs like AI, CorelDraw, Serif DrawPlus, Inkscape but my favorite drawing program is still Xara. With Xara i made my most work in vector drawing and desining book covers for print and e-books.
For Typesetting I use TangoSolo, Indesign and Serif PagePlus.

My fun is creating photo realistic vector drawings like this one which is made in Xara.

Just a week i play arround with Affinity for Windows an try out some drawings. One, is still in work because is to complex and affinity can't handle it, must wait until Affinity will be ready to deliver and most bugless.

So I try some easier projects. These I'll share here with you:

Sorry for my German-English, I hope You understand me nevertheless.

Hey Folks, this is my first attempt at using affinity designer. I really love drawing in vectors, all my works are 100% (pure) vector illustrations, and now I'm glad I found AD - an awesome tool …  think we're getting married ;)

I'm really enjoying this beta. Tried my hand at using AD for a couple of posters for my church and was very pleased with the results (I've been using DrawPlus or PagePlus up until now). Following this success I thought I'd create something for pleasure. I created the bronze image first then changed the background to blue and used Luminance Blend and added noise to the 'Robot'. Here are a couple of jpg's of them. Feedback welcome. :)
