Here I'll show you an architecture magazine that I design annually with Affinity Publisher and oversee the printing and production.

In the beginning the magazine was created in Indesign. After I got out of the Adobe subscription, I adapted it in Publisher and now designed it in AP for the fourth time.
At the beginning there were problems with embedded customer PDFs; these were not passed through but were always somehow interpreted and therefore incorrect.
Since ver. 2 this has been a thing of the past.
You can view the entire magazine as a digital edition here. Have fun!

    Hi @dannyg9:
thats funny. I started with Quark in the 1990ies then switched to Indesign and since 5 Years I worked arround with AP.
If you know all the DTP-Software so it's no a problem to switch to AP. The workarrounds are more or less the same. If you work with stiles, masterpages and know how to make printable PDF’s, there is no big challenge to do it in AP.
Only the PDF-preflight without AcrobatPro (and/or PlugIns) can be/is a fight! I hope Affinity give us a tool to proof our Print-PDF’s.
Thank You for the kind words about my Magazin-Design.

270 pages, that must have been a lotta work.
Looks like a real fun project tho!
We've switched off most Adobe products aswell.
However, we haven't found a decent alternative for Preflight and so we are kinda stuck with Acrobat still.
What are you using for Preflight?

Its RAM consumptiom is known. I have 64 GB RAM and a one year old AMD 8GB graphiccard and Publisher will more. I work aunder Windows 10 too. When I open Publisher wit my 344 site file, all images linked, the file is at 750 MB, publisher take all of my 64 GB. So ther is 99% RAM Publischer.
The same file in ID needs only 6 GB. I think Serif has a massiv RAM-Managemet-Problem.
When nothing is embeded why there don't use a smaler preview like Adobe?

I couldn't agree more. Setting textbooks in German language is an impossibility without a footnote function.
Here is an example of a work I have set in Indesign.
I would like to see a similar solution for Publisher as Indesign has, that set correctly the notes in page to the refernce.

O.K. I studied graphic design at university, then successfully completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter, book and offset printer. The crowning glory was then the Industriemeister Druck. For about 10 years I ran my own print shop. Since I officially retired, I have been working from the home office for various publishers, companies and occasional customers.
My entry into DTP was the Pagemaker, then a jourey over Calamus, Pagestream, Corel, Quark and finaly ID. The Opensource thing I followed and try to work with it, but I give up.
Today I use everything that delivers a fast and professional result.
AFPublisher has good approaches, but did not call in the professional designer to help develop the software.
Serif should have taken a look around the competition and also take its own experiences from PPlus with in. And a format that should work in all three applications will certainly not make it any easier for the publisher.

Could you please change the behavior of the tools in Affinity Photo.
I restore a lot of old photos and I am annoyed every time I have adjusted a tool, but it is misaligned again when I create a new file.
For example the lasso, I set it to add, at the next file it is back to new. Why Affinity Photo can't remember the setting like in Photoshop.
Same with the Restore Brush. Every time it jumps back on repair brush. That sucks!
Same with fillings. If I select Inpaint, it will jump back the next time I use it.
I wish that tool options, once set, should remain even after a restart. Just like in Photoshop.

I have a lot of book typesetting and test Affinity Publisher from time to time. I have always tried to publish a project. I have not yet been able to set a single book with Publisher.
It is simply impossible to work professionally with Affinity Publisher (neither v1. 7. 3 nor Beta v1. 8. 0. 523).

The orphan and widow settings are a joke and so not usable. Footnotes are completely missing. Book function not available.
The speed is so slow that it is unacceptable for a modern program. All in all, in my opinion the software has no sense in this way.
For a few flyers or business cards there are enough alternatives. But for book typesetting?
Serif I think this will take few years befor Publisher can be named so.

And why You would do this in Tex? An grphic orientant workflow with live control is in m.o. the better way. There is no only one thing to do – there are many, so the workflow for a new and modern publishing app may be so easy as possible.
