It is hard to believe such an essential feature is not part of Affinity Designer.

Photoline has a simplify curve option (and it does not even focus on being a vector app). InkScape can do this. ClipStudio offers a really nice simplify vector line brush tool to simplify curves. And of course many other vector illustration packages such as Illustrator, CorelDraw, Xara... Animation software that works with vectors all offer it: Anime Studio, Toonboom, Flash...

Heck, even Freehand has an option to do this. And Freehand is positively ancient!

In short, I am afraid it is somewhat odd and slightly bewildering for a modern dedicated vector package NOT to offer it from the get-go.

    We already do :)

In the Colour page, use the little icon at the top right to go into "Sliders" mode, then use the combo box to choose "RGB Hex".

    Thanks,

When I develop the css of a website, I like copy / paste the hex code of a color. When I like a color, I copy it hex code for use in the new creations. Show hex code of the color and allow to copy it with 1 click, could be perfect.
What do you think of that ?

Thanks. Of course, I'm aware how circle/ellipse and frame text tools work :)

Anyway, I would like to hear some feedback from other users, too.

I still think the unified Shift modifier would improve general usability...

    1) When resizing single element, proportions are preserved by default and Shift works as a modifier to change proportions.

    2) When resizing multiple selected elements, proportions are NOT preserved. Shift works as a modifier to preserve proportions.

This feels like inconsistency and it makes learning AD harder. I would prefer behavior described in 1) as default for all resizing. Thanks for considering ;)

    Hello good afternoon
I wanted to know: Affinity beta designer for windows is a short-term trial version?

ikas reacted to ScootCoot in Affinity Designer [Beta] - Updates
I have looked through the forum as to questions regarding Affinity Designer [beta] updates but cannot find topics related to updates on this program other than what is listed in the forum as to the current beta update and what has been fixed...

When I open Affinity Designer there is a dialog box that opens indicating there is an update, so I click the download button...  The file to be downloaded is always the same ".exe" file name and my computer dutifully warns me "that file already exists - overwrite it?" which I click "Yes"...

The file downloads, then I run the file to install the latest beta update...  What I'm curious about is, why - each time - does the program have to install the already existing "Microsoft .NET 2015 .NET Framework 4.6.2"...?  An install that takes an enormous amount of time [at least more than 20 minutes or so the last time before this current update]...

Also, I realize the original program I downloaded was a "beta" version - and still is - but, [and this may seem trivial, so pardon me] why isn't the file given a version number at each change...?  Not including a version number - is this normal procedure for programs in the "beta phase"...?

    Thanks...

Just to set straight what was said above: Nobody has access to the sales information apart from Apple themselves - they will never pass the information to any developer, no matter who they are. We have absolutely no way to verify that you have bought a copy of Affinity Designer/Photo apart from looking at the embedded receipt in your application on your Mac. If we do that, we could theoretically unlock a Windows license... but if we did that, it only works one way - if you buy the Windows version we can't give people a free download from the App Store - there is no facility for this.

[Edited to clarify: The receipt in your Mac App Store application simply validates that you have indeed purchased it, but it will not reveal any details that could be used to identify you]

You can argue as much as you like about whether the product is worth $50 or not (we think it's worth more than that, that's why we set it at a very reasonable $50 as we thought we were being really fair and people would be happy). Other programs may offer less, more or just generally different things, some are single-platform, some are multi-platform, but none of them offers the same level of software for the money in my opinion.

I think we've been pretty clear about the fact that it's not technically possible to offer anything apart from a one-way licensing scheme that would require everyone to always buy it on the Mac App Store first and then we give them a free Windows-download. That's not particularly realistic or fair, so we're just saying 'Buy it on each OS you want to use it on'. Not too much underhanded or deceptive behaviour going on in my opinion? :S

If the future brings a Mac version that isn't sold solely through the App Store then it's valid to revisit this discussion, but that isn't on our roadmap right now, at least not that I'm aware of...

    Thanks,
    Matt

I would like to hear the Serif speak up about the reasoning behind having to buy 2 separate licenses, one for Mac and one for Windows. Even though I believe it has to do with the original Mac Version was/is sold in the Apple store-and obviously you can't transfer the app to a Windows pc as you could if you had multiple Macs.

    Hi ikas,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You can use Symbols for that. All instances will update when you make changes to one of them. You can create/manage them using the Symbols panel (menu View ▸ Studio ▸ Symbols).

    Hi ikas,
Yes, you can create slices manually that may include content from several layers. Check this video tutorial - Exporting: Slices - for more information. Although the video was recorded using an older version, the process is similar for the current one. Let me know if you still have trouble.
