Now with DWG/DXF Export this is becoming even more important. I haven't upgraded from V1 yet, but I will once this happens.

JQL reacted to arifg in Dimensioning tool, please!
just to keep this post fresh, I also support this dimensioning tools to come to Affinity, especially Designer. I use Coreldraw for 7 years, and IMO this tool doesn't have to be very detailed as much as Corel.
They have "horizontal or vertical Dimension" because "parallel dimension" doesn't work if the mouse is too far away, not necessary. It also has node constraints so if you pull a node the dimension will follow the node, but from experience I turned this off because remarks from customer can make you forget/make mistake. Affinity already have other features like arrow tips and like profiling and the UI is already way better than Corel ( they added variable curve thickness, to somewhere, just this year). And they published the measuring tools. I mean Affinity is "this" close to what we want, and it does not has to be as complex as Corel.
Callout (or leaders) are also mandatory. the workaround is simply use the "dimension" in the Styles panel/studio, then add text to where you want.
Angular Dimension is good to have. My manufacturers doesn't need them anyways but if you sketching furniture it is mandatory.
In short, except the Angular dimensioning, you'll see the only automation/code we need is put a text that has the info of the curve length to the middle of the curve, or to the tip of the curve for callouts.
why Dimensioning especially necessary for a vector design program? I am doing perfume&packaging designs internationally and technical drawing programs like autocad or rhinoceros doesn't have the appeal to show your beauty of your design to the customer, where rendering is too slow and expensive at first steps of design communication. Corel knows this and they are gaining profit because of this.

I really didn't need slices at all in my projects so far.
However, what I always need is layer states.
I use Photo and Designer for architecture and turning on and off layers allows me to show alternative versions of the spaces. Different colors, different objects, different lighting... All images should be the same size, but featuring different stuff which is usually organized through layers. As we evolve the project these layers evolve, so having to repeat all the process of exporting and naming each new version of the image is tedious.

Yet this is making it work well for some users who specifically need the ability to do exactly this, as per discussion in another recent thread.  Your "bug" is another user's solution to a problem they were facing.  It is intended behavior and therefore not a bug, but the option to limit the scope of the selection in various ways would certainly be a welcome refinement to the existing feature.

But fixing an obvious bug is not the same as a random feature request. This really limits the usefulness for those creating complex documents with multiple artboards.

Nezumi wasn't the first to make the request, but it's been almost a year now. There was no response from the development team and no change to the AD.
When Select Same was first released, I thought this improvement would catch up quickly. Unexpectedly, the development team was really reluctant to make any changes to it. Very disappointing!

As I understand it, the primary use case for this feature is to deal with documents created from external sources without having to individually find things across a potentially large subset of objects within that document.  Those external sources may not have support for things such as layer names and color tags, limiting the scope of usefulness of this option.

It may help some users in some situations, but I don't believe it generically solves the issue being discussed here.

+1 bump. I just upgraded to 1.9 and was very excited about the Select Same feature (really the only thing holding me back from using Designer full time instead of Illustrator). Unfortunately, much like you, the way this feature is currently implemented is tantalizingly useless. Until I can limit it to only visible objects, or have locked objects not be included in the selection, it doesn't help. It's so close, yet so far.

As it stands now, the select features are a nice addition, but are frustratingly all encompassing. They really should let you limit its scope as far down as to a group.
While I can see the benefits to having it select things across your entire project, it certainly shouldn't be the default and only option.

Maybe I am missing something, but is there a way to limit these new functions so they work just for one, selected artboard?
If I want to select all text on the artboard I am working on and ALL text is selected across multiple artboards function becomes useless... I tried locking other artboards but it still is selecting elements across all of them. Whats more - you can even move elements selected in this way while artboard is technically locked. I tried turning on visibility of other artboards but this also didnt worked.
Long story short - if I am not missing anything - can you please make possible to use these new tools only in the active artboard? They work great on single page, but to use them with multiple artboards this is a must in my opinion.
Thanks for the great improvements in 1.9!

    Hi @JQL,
This has been requested previously for desktop in the below thread (feel free to add your voice there) -
But I will also move this thread to the iPad feedback section of the forums, for our devs to consider

    @JQL
In some cases in may help to use artboards for this. You can arrange the different states of your images on different artboards, and give the artboards matching names. Elements that are repeated and used on every artbord can be arranged as symbols in Designer, so that changes on one artboard changes them on all other ones.
At least for a project with gamecards this worked quite well for me. It's not the same as using layer compositions and exporting them as files. On the other hand, you can see all you variations at a glance, without switching through all composition states.

I'd love to be able to scribble too, but thanks for the touching the banner tip. I was struggling against that for months and never occured to me to actually use my fingers on the banner as I always use the Pencil

    Ok, I’ve learned:
that touching any part of the bottom banner brings up the full keyboard. If you don’t use the Apple Pencil to activate the text you want to edit, you get the full keyboard. I’d love to be able to use Scribble

JQL reacted to jclounge in Photo and Designer: Seamless tiles and infinite canvas
Hi all, I just had a quick look at photo beta and it looks great!

There are two features supported in Krita which I think would make fantastic additions to both photo and designer:

1: Tile mode (or "wrapping" mode). In this mode you can see the image/canvas repeated at least once beyond each edge and corner, and you can just draw off the edge and the drawing automatically wraps around to the other side. Ideally most of the built in effects and filters would also work properly with tiled mode, such as blurs, bevels, shadows, etc. This would be superb for making or working with seamlessly tiled backgrounds and game textures.

2: Infinite canvas. When you find yourself running out of space at one edge of the canvas, this feature would make it very easy to extend the canvas just in that direction.

    Cheers,
    Jules

the best solution for this problem really is Krita´s wrap mode. Hit W and see your texture tile to infinity. Affinity and infinity would have so much in common...

I'm using Krita right now but as it's mainly a painting software I'm considering changing for Affinity products as they seem excellent.

There is a feature in Krita that I miss and though you are probably more focused on Photoshop functionality, that is a hell of a nice one to have:

    It's the tiling mode.

Basically in krita you hit 'W' key and it tiles your canvas infinitelly, you can paint on any of the tiles and transition from one tile to the other.

It's an incredibly simple way of creating tileable textures or any other tiling image.

If the feature exists already in Photo, then please forgive my inexperience and be so kind to point me in the right track.

    Thanks!
