jenda got a reaction from Jibben in qr code creator
It would be great to have the possibility to create qr code directly in your apps. Thank you.

jenda reacted to Ash in Adjusted mask behaviour
Apps: Affinity Photo / all
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
Affinity Photo: Mask button on layers panel
In Version 2 we added the new functionality of being able to apply live range masks (Hue, Luminosity and Band-Pass) as well compound masks to Affinity Photo. As well as being available from the top Layer menu, we also included them in a new drop down when you click the mask icon in the layers panel.
Helpful feedback has informed us that this drop-down menu is more of a hindrance than anything (as most users just want to add a mask much more frequently than any of the other options). For this reason we have reverted to making single click on the mask button just add a mask. If you want to access the other mask options from the layers panel button you can now do that using Alt+Click.
Assistant auto mask placement (all apps)
When:
Adding mask layer to selection = Add mask based on selection
Within assistant options, the logic is that if the current selection isn't a mask then the mask layer gets placed as a child, but if the current selection is a mask the new mask layer gets placed above. However this was treating both Adjustment Layers and Live Filter layers as Masks for this purpose which was incorrect. Basically now if you have your assistant setting to this and you have either an adjustment or live filter layer selected, the new mask will be added as a child of those layers rather than placed above.
Again we think this is the correct logic and matches feedback we have seen, but let us know what you think.

jenda reacted to MEB in PNG - from white to transparent background
Hi JesperBechPetersen,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Which application are you using? Affinity Photo or Designer?
If it's Affinity Photo go to menu Filters ▸ Colors ▸ Erase White Paper. This may not work for all colour images without protecting the subject with a selection first.
If it's Affinity Designer (there's no filters here) select the layer, click on the cog icon on the top right of the layers panel to open the Blend Options dialog, then on the on the Source Layers Ranges graph (on the left), drag the right endpoint to the bottom and the left endpoint to the right until the white starts disappearing just around the borders of the elements (they become semi transparent) see screenshot below. You can also use this method in Affinity Photo.

jenda reacted to Hokusai in Is there a vector erase tool in Affinity Designer?
I'm surprised that a vector eraser isn't on the Roadmap. It is something that is requested a lot. A knife tool is useful in some situations but there are others where an eraser would work better. In addition to Affinity Designer, I also have iDraw (before it was bought out) and it features a wonderful vector eraser tool (although other areas of the program are lacking) and I really wish that Designer had something along the same lines.

Are there any plans to add scripting support?
I notice there is no Applescript library at all but am interested to know if there are plans to add Applescript or perhaps Javascript support. Virtually everything we do as far as creating PDFs, packaging, placing images and text, formatting, proofing, sending pages to print etc is done via script.
Tagged text goes hand-in-hand with scripting so I think this needs to also be supported.

jenda reacted to garrettm30 in Footnotes/Endnotes
Are footnotes and endnotes currently possible (besides manually creating them, of course)? I haven't found them so far.
If not, this is a feature that I think would be widely used. I suspect it may take some time to get right if it is not yet under development, so I would understand if it is not a day-1 feature.

jenda reacted to Ariana M in Change page size for all pages?
How do i change page size for all pages, i.e. if i created something in 6" x 9" but want to upsize to larger dimension, i.e. 8" x 10".
This is what I'm going now:
--> right click on page | spread properties
--> Scaling tab -> select rescale and resample = bilinear (is that best choice? i think so, looks ok so far!)
--> Dimensions tab -> edit dimensions settings and click OK.
it is okay with a 3 page document but not a 100 page book!! Any faster way to batch this? (I've tried to edit settings for spreads and document but it only changes for the one page that is featured on my screen.)
Also: let me know if i'm missing a thread. I've searched all the keywords i can think of, but am not finding anything about this! THANKS.

jenda reacted to ostonica in [IDML Implemented] How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
AfPub, based on a very quick test, does a pretty good job of importing a PDF that I created of a book in InDesign. Needs a lot more testing, but that might be a short term option.
HOWEVER, the next very important step for me is missing.
I cannot export to a reflowable Epub
Is that feature also planned. It is needed for every project I have.

Great to hear, because it will be a pretty important option in my opinion

I use the data merge tool daily to create QR-codes in a batch or load data into a pdf. I think this is not present in the beta build?

jenda reacted to garrettm30 in GREP find/replace
I’m so totally stoked about this beta. I have spent a couple hours poking around, and I can say that this beta is further along than I expected. I have high hopes that this will in time replace Indesign for us (a small publisher), and it looks well on track.
Among several features that wowed right away and other "missing features" that I can work around, the one thing that stood out for me is the lack of GREP searches. In Indesign, I have a small series of GREP searches that I have saved over the past years, and I run nearly everything through them. A couple minutes on a typical file, and I have made several hundred changes. When I work on a book, the changes are in the thousands. (Note: I publish in French, and French typography relies heavily on non-breaking spaces; these GREP searches help me rapidly put them where they ought to go.)
While you're there: being able to save the searches as presets would be ideal. And as not everyone is familiar with GREP, a few pre-saved searches would help provide them immediate use: remove multiple spaces, remove trailing space, etc.

jenda reacted to chic in [Implemented] Hyperlinks for Affinity Publisher
Hi, just downloaded Affinity Publisher Beta , (been waiting a long time for this release) and there is not the ability to create Hyperlinked pdf's, not sure if this is because it is a Beta or not, but in my workflow I regularly publish Hyperlinked PDF's and this would be a fundamental feature for me and many others . At the moment I do this using Keynote and its a great little software, but as I have Designer and Photo and hopefully publisher soon I could contain my whole workflow in the Affinity platform, so please please please include the ability to publish Hyperlinked PDF"s

jenda reacted to Buck Manhands in Sneak peeks for 1.7
I really hope that you will focus on things that are core features that entire industries can use. Things like the "save for web" panel in Illustrator and Photoshop is an essential tool all web designers need. Having the pop open dialogs for all my palettes is another awesome feature that will be hard to live without. The colors, shapes, layers, character, etc. palettes take up a lot of room when I am not using them in this program. Adobe may suck in so many ways now, but their pop open palette interface is excellent. I can have 20 palettes in what looks similar to my toolbar with small icons and clicking an icon pops open just the one I need just when I need it and leave my screen uncluttered when I am focusing on drawing. Having smart guides that outline each shape when I mouse over them is very useful, a lot nicer than holding down option while I click to drill down (though, that is nice too for other reasons). These are the things that will make this program shine, not fancy bloat.

Hello,
one of the basic features is still not there: find and replace for text. Please, implement it in the next versions. Thank you very much.

We do have prototyping already working behind-the-scenes in the current Designer, but it is disabled while we work through and flesh it out. Hopefully 1.6 will enable this functionality :)
