  1. Having looked at the Canva website, I think this is when I return to Adobe. Brash, noisy, thoroughly unprofessional. A very sad occasion. Goodbye and thanks for all the fish!
  2. Hello all and thanks. The problem is that I had totally misunderstood the concept of 'Book' in Publisher and now realise that it isn't what I wanted. Sorry to take up your time and thank you again. Walt thank you especially for the warning. I hadn't anticipated that since there is no warning for it.
  3. My question was obviously not clear. Quite obviously books can be created but what I asked was whether an already completed file with pages, images and references be converted afterwards into a 'Book' in Affinity publisher's meaning of the term? In other words is there some way in which a completed publisher file can be dropped into the Publisher 'Book' format? They can obviously be printed as books because that is what I have done.
  4. Hello again. The first problem proved to be so easy it was ridiculous that I missed it. Knowing if the second is possible would still be very useful please. Michael
  5. Hello I am making photo books using Publisher and am not initially setting up files as books. Page numbering is set to automatic but when I update the file, adding and removing pages, the position of the page numbers doesn't update (that is the applicable master page) though the numbers do. At the moment the file is set up with two master pages, left hand and right hand. Is it possible to change the master page for individual pages that need updating? or Is it possible to transform a file into a book? I have looked at this but could not find an option for either of these. Please can you advise? I have been getting very good printed results from the software, exporting to PDF and the images prepared through A Photo. These are not yet really fully bound books but temporary spiral bound 40 page A4. Michael
  6. With the help of a video I have now been able to resolve this as a Section edit. Thank you for your time.
  7. I just added the numbers manually. In the future I might try this again. Thank you.
  8. This is not an individual set up problem but a problem with the way Affinity software is installed. This error message is permanent because Fast stone is unable to access the .exe file for photo. Most of these answers are incorrect. It is useful to know though that an image can be dropped into Photo.
  9. Lacerto, the file is not a pdf, it is Publisher which is exported as pdf for the printer.
  10. Walt, I can't see the page numbers in my Affinity pages, so probably I am in error in some way. Though I have frequently used Publisher for photo books I haven't previously wanted to page number, so this is a first attempt. The intention was to avoid captions. The page numbering is set up as a field. Probably it is easier to just do it manually.
  11. Hello, I have put a pge number insertion in my Publisher file but they do not export with the pdf files, neither the print ready versions nor the small pdf. Can someone please give advice on this? There are various how to videos on the subject but this issue never seems to arise, so I am obviously doing something wrong. I am making a photo book with no captions, so page numbers are required. Michael
  12. This issue seems to remain unaddressed despite the many improvements to version 2. It does make life awkward when using Affinity with specialist software.
  13. Back again: It seems to matter not a jot what format the image has. This is my screenshot when trying to use Nik in AP. It really is not very helpful.
  14. What a lot of restrictions. Easier to handle first in Photolab. But thank you all the same.
  15. I have the nik collection plug ins, supposedly compatible with AP. They appear in the plug ins list but greyed out and inaccessible. The work perfectly well in DxO, so why not in AP please?
  16. Can anybody tell me why the red overlay from masking should remain in patches in completed images, making them useless. It appears unremovable. It is contained within rectilinear outlines in a similar way to the sharpening pattern encountered in some images. I am not sure which kind of mask it derives from, whether from quick mask or selection masks and occurs mostly with multiple masks. It is most probably due to some misuse on my part.
  17. Are you aware that using high pass sharpening on images with large plain areas leaves behind rectilinear area boundaries in those plain areas, presumably from a zoning system that is used to implement the procedure. This is particularly apparent where noise reduction has been used.
  18. There is a pixelate filter in Photo but is there a depixelate one as in other photo software?
  19. As far as I am aware it should be possible to use a brush to paint on an added pixel layer over an original image in Photo. But it is not doing so or, if it is the result is invisible even though recorded in the history a paint brush. I work in Win10 64 bit mode and the images have been developed from RAW to whatever mode Photo uses following development. The brush used is a Basic. Does anybody know why this might be happening? I have tried additionally rasterising the layer but it makes no difference. This is a new experience to me in AP 2 (latest update)
  20. Thank you Lee D. The PDF issue got sorted in a way in that all the images in the Publisher file were enhanced. My printers will accept sRGB or CMYK but their conversion from sRGB to CMYK is not so good so it is better I do it and they print a proof page. As long as enhancing in Publisher doesn't affect the originals this is alright but I am a bit worried that it might impact the originals. The enhancements were done in Publisher mode not switching into Photo. If documents are exported in CMYK PDF and then reimported into Publisher as such is it possible to edit them? I haven't yet tried to do that.
  21. 1. I don't use hardware acceleration. 2. What you see is a screen shot of what happened. Were I to try and send the original file it would be refused. It is large with many layers and masks despite being lowish definition. 3. The rectangular fantasy is the clone zone. All layers are in colour. As I said in the comment I was cloning a dark halo from above the arm (Visible in the screen shot) using the grey background ( also a colour layer) as a source to overwrite a black halo over the upperside of the boy's arm and the left side of his right shoulder (all in colour). 4. Sorry, I have no idea what you mean. I have been using Affinity Photo successfully, apart from learning differences from Photoshop and After Effects, since its inception and have never before encountered this. What I needed was achieved successfully using other software. So thank you for taking the trouble to reply. But I thought mentioning the even might be useful to someone.
  22. Please can someone tell me what is happening here? It was a simple clone brush attempt to remove a dark halo. It seems unmovable. There is no problem with the boy's right arm only the raised left arm.
  23. I am having problems setting up illustrated books using RGB photographs and exporting to PDF as CMYK. Some images get flattened for reasons not known to me (ignorance). Is there a sequence for this conversion that avoids this? I would prefer not to have to convert the images before importing into Publisher. Of course I am aware that CMYK can't fully represent the colour spectrum of sRGB but I would have thought the conversion in Publisher might have been more sympathetic. When I export to CMYK as a PDF, does the original publisher file convert to CMYK? Sorry, that might be ambiguous. I don't mean that images get layers flattened but the tonality and colour gamut.
