Main interest in photography - classic landscape photography, particularly classic Japanese landscape photography and Chinese landscape painting. This because they penetrate the picture plane to the underlying Zen and Tao through the use of geometric composition. Other than that linguistics, environment and applied philosophy.

  1. Having looked at the Canva website, I think this is when I return to Adobe. Brash, noisy, thoroughly unprofessional. A very sad occasion. So-long and thanks for all the fish! However, it has been a pleasure that I shall remember, working with Serif Affinity from its inception following their transition from the old editing programmes. It has been interesting and rewarding. Such a shame it had to be taken over, whatever the words. I have experienced those words quite a few times. They remain valid for a few months, no more.
  2. Hello all and thanks. The problem is that I had totally misunderstood the concept of 'Book' in Publisher and now realise that it isn't what I wanted. Sorry to take up your time and thank you again. Walt thank you especially for the warning. I hadn't anticipated that since there is no warning for it.
  3. My question was obviously not clear. Quite obviously books can be created but what I asked was whether an already completed file with pages, images and references be converted afterwards into a 'Book' in Affinity publisher's meaning of the term? In other words is there some way in which a completed publisher file can be dropped into the Publisher 'Book' format? They can obviously be printed as books because that is what I have done.
  4. Hello again. The first problem proved to be so easy it was ridiculous that I missed it. Knowing if the second is possible would still be very useful please. Michael
  5. Hello I am making photo books using Publisher and am not initially setting up files as books. Page numbering is set to automatic but when I update the file, adding and removing pages, the position of the page numbers doesn't update (that is the applicable master page) though the numbers do. At the moment the file is set up with two master pages, left hand and right hand. Is it possible to change the master page for individual pages that need updating? or Is it possible to transform a file into a book? I have looked at this but could not find an option for either of these. Please can you advise? I have been getting very good printed results from the software, exporting to PDF and the images prepared through A Photo. These are not yet really fully bound books but temporary spiral bound 40 page A4. Michael
  6. With the help of a video I have now been able to resolve this as a Section edit. Thank you for your time.
  7. I just added the numbers manually. In the future I might try this again. Thank you.
  8. This is not an individual set up problem but a problem with the way Affinity software is installed. This error message is permanent because Fast stone is unable to access the .exe file for photo. Most of these answers are incorrect. It is useful to know though that an image can be dropped into Photo.
  9. Lacerto, the file is not a pdf, it is Publisher which is exported as pdf for the printer.
  10. Walt, I can't see the page numbers in my Affinity pages, so probably I am in error in some way. Though I have frequently used Publisher for photo books I haven't previously wanted to page number, so this is a first attempt. The intention was to avoid captions. The page numbering is set up as a field. Probably it is easier to just do it manually.
  11. Hello, I have put a pge number insertion in my Publisher file but they do not export with the pdf files, neither the print ready versions nor the small pdf. Can someone please give advice on this? There are various how to videos on the subject but this issue never seems to arise, so I am obviously doing something wrong. I am making a photo book with no captions, so page numbers are required. Michael
  12. This issue seems to remain unaddressed despite the many improvements to version 2. It does make life awkward when using Affinity with specialist software.
  13. Back again: It seems to matter not a jot what format the image has. This is my screenshot when trying to use Nik in AP. It really is not very helpful.
  14. What a lot of restrictions. Easier to handle first in Photolab. But thank you all the same.
