jrkay got a reaction from benge in Sorting within text boxes
I notice that one can sort the solumns or rows of tables into alphabetic order, is there any way that sorting may be applied to text in frames as it is in PagePlus?

All I can say that anyone who has experience with a separate word editor, either in PagePlus or InDesign and with a multi-page books,  knows full well what the advantages are.
If the people who confess that don't know why we want it could confirm that they have had this experience and have used either of these programs themselves we would maybe more sympathetic to their suggestions which do not seem to be based on any practical hands-on relevant use.

jrkay got a reaction from jmvrecq in Cursor behaviour Irritation
As a previous user of PagePlus I do my best to adjust to the differences I find in Publisher but one thing really tries my patience and irritates. In Pageplus just the movement of the cursor ensures that the function automatically and every time, without fail, switches easily between Move and Text Entry modes as it enters or leaves a text frame or moves over a picture  or drawn object.
In Publisher the cursor does change from Move to Text entry cursor. Often only after you have cllicked again inside the text frame. To get it back to a Move cursor you must either click on the move icon or press V, even so this may only work if you leave the page and sometimes afterwards only if you tap again on the artboard. This breaks the workflow like nothing else.

jrkay got a reaction from MarekGFX in Multiline H & J
What is the position over Multiline H & J, called "Adobe Paragraph Composer" in InDesign. Are we to get a much improved justifying algorithm which goes back to the previous full stop and rejigs the previous whole paragraph for best fit. Perhaps even altering character width as well as word and letter spacing. Even better, may we expect this in the near future? Only asking. (Grin)

jrkay got a reaction from Maaja in Problems with Justification
I have just tried the Justification options. I want the "justify all" to not only stretch from margin to margin but hopefully for the last line to finish by lining up with the left margin as it does in PagePlus. I had hoped that in Publisher I would have the option of choosing for the last line of the all justified paragraph to line up with the right margin or be centred, a choice offered in InDesign. I hope that I won't have to select the last line of the paragraph in each case and format it as left, centre or right, as I have to do at present. With a long text having to do this would be a real bind.

The only thing that keeps me using PagePlus and not switching to Publisher is that I need to edit text in a simpler form than a WISIWIG one. I sympathise with those who rely on a text editor in InDesign or any earlier DTP software, there is no better way of dealing with editing within the application, especially for long texts of many chapters.
Individual stories may be seen in Writeplus as simple text, CTRL commands are so easy to move text around, edit and revise, without having  all the links and the extras connected with showing text frames getting in the way.
Please oh please supply us with this feature.

In the meanwhile, there is a very good way of processing a text by using LibreOffice.
First download LibreOffice and install it.
Got - File - New - Text document
Make sure the style is set to Default
    Goto:Tools - Autocorrect - Autocorrect options - Localised Options
At the bottom for Single Quotes - Start Quote click on the box you will then be taken to a set of characters
there you can choose Initial quote, this will change the Start Box to (U+2018)
Do similarly for Single End Quote, Double Start Quote and Double End Quote.
Click on OK,  Goto your text  CTRL A to select it, CTRL C to copy it and CTRL V to paste it.
Goto Tools - Autocorrect - apply
It will then completely convert all your Straight quotes to Typographic ones.
If you intend using this at all it is only fair if you make a small donation to a very good program.

I agree, I use Write in PP all the time with fonts styles showing, not only to edit comfortably as has been said before but also to see what formatting has been applied to the text but furthemore with the useful ability to export text or a selection of text to either a txt file or even more useful, a RTF one.

This would be extremely valuable for me as I frequently have to design a cover for my books. I can do this fairly easily in PagePlus and would hope to do it even easier in Publisher.

    Sorry Jon,
I've started doing a new publication in the released version and it does not do what I described. I suspect that it happened in a publication that I started in a beta version. Trouble is that there were many that I started this way and I lost track of which.
Thanks for your interest if it happens in the current publication I'll let the forum know.

jrkay got a reaction from walt.farrell in Decorations block appearing in or beside text frame
Thanks again Walt, I copied in filler text and flowed it to the second and third frame. When I went to the Normal style which was shown as blue in the panel and chose Edit I found Decorations ticked. I removed it and the boxes went away. This option seems a little intrusive, I've had it appear unbidden on many occasions,
Incidentally thanks for all the many times you've helped me out over Publisher. Sometimes a heavy experience with PagePlus doesn't always help to understand the basic structure, it seems that many Affinity users have built up a better undersdtanding with their knowledge of Affinity  Design.

I think it's still obtainable on ebay. I still use WebPlus X8 very successfully, it's easy to use and there are still a number of videos on line on its use. I recently put together a website at http://colchesterquakers.org.uk            John

There's some good sense talked here, I have been a user of DTP since Timeworks and an enthusiastic user of PagePlus since Version 1.
When Serif first released its DTP as a set of floppy 3½" disks it looked very like PageMaker but did not carry the stupid high price. It was buggy yet easy to use getting better and better until it developed into version X9. It became what I considered the most competent and user-friendly DTP on the market.
Now we have Publisher it looks to me very much as if many are expecting miracles for a first version. Of course I still use PagePlus for my serious work because I know it so well. I will be getting familiar with Publisher as soon as it is released. It will take a great deal of getting used to. I am prepared to wait, I have a great deal of faith in the programmers. Serif have been unique in listening and responding to the suggestions of its users, Serif users have proved to be the most helpful and courteous on any forums I have been part of. Please be patient, this will eventually be better than any of its big competitors, it will take time but I know, from my personal experience I can assure you of that.
