Ecnavda reacted to dave at maidenflowerfarm in Unable to download Photo update in Apple Mac Store
I am trying to update my Affinity apps. I bought publisher directly through Serif and that worked fine.

On the other hand, I purchased Photo and Designer through the Apple AppStore. It took several tries to successfully update Designer, but Photo will not update. It downloads the installer, then throws of a error message saying "Cannot download Affinity Photo at this time. Please try again later."
I have tried removing the app and doing a fresh install, same thing.
Any guidance?  I have already tried to contact Apple but have not gotten a response.
    Thanks

Ecnavda got a reaction from tasker123 in UI too small
    Hi all,
I have the same problem too. Both the Affinity designer's UI icons and Tool's texts are too small for me. It affects my progress to get familar in Affinity siute.
In fact, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop having the same problem too. It is funny that this problem carry to their update in late 2019. See the user's feedback in their forum, they still cannot completely solve the problem. The application cannot taking care with the changes in high resolution and bigger screens. Their support staff always mentioned that they will reflect these problems to their product team.
Remember, this is the fundamental need of any softwares or apps (no matter which OS or displays). Especially the softwares for "designing visual".
I expect that Affinity team can solve this problem nicely and react quickly. Suggested the team to review and benchmarking with Freehand and early versions of Illustrator. Give up "the complex & scary professional look" and Bring back the excellent user experience to the users.
    Thanks!

I have posed the same question in october 2014.
A number of users supported me, it is (as far as I am concerned) an essential feature of any design program.
Unfortunately, as far as I know, it has not been taken up by the feature request team.
I hope however, that more forum users would take the trouble to add the request to the feature request section of this forum.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to reset the origin (0,0) of the rulers. I'd like to reset the zero point to where 2 guides intersect. In other graphics programs I can usually grab the upper left corner of the rulers and drag to a point to rest that point to zero. Can't figure it out in Designer though. Is this even possible?

We are more than halfway through 2017 and the ability to move zero point on the rulers has still not been added. Does anyone at Affinity have info on when this might happen in both AP and AD?

This is really an important basic feature and is highly needed  in any design software. I am missing this feature in almost any document I am creating with AD.
    Please, add this soon.
    Thank you

Hi everyone, by the look of it, requests for ruler origin shift in AD have been around since March, 2015. This says a lot for me.

Yeah, please make this feature available as soon as possible – is there any scheduled release date for version 1.7?
I just did my first a bit more complex technical design in Affinity Designer and I was absolutely dismayed when I (soon) discovered that I couldn't reposition the origin/zero-point to fit flush with elements already drawn (or with guidelines).
As I'm really willing to at some point make the transition from Adobe Illustrator this feature (and some others – e.g. like instantly generating multiple precisely positioned copies of an element as with Illustrator’s "Effects > Transformation") are desperately needed. Finding workarounds to achieve the same results you used to do in seconds with AI is definitely a bit tiring – even if there are quite some things AD already did so much better than Illustrator right from the start...

I am a dual user absolutely Love my Affinity Designer (and Affinity Photo... but that is another story)... and I have to persist with Corel Draw Just for the zero moving feature...

Jim... Please do not let this diminish (well not too much) the joy of the program(s)...

I will patiently wait till 1.7 then let my joy be unbounded when I finally delete Corel, Windows and Parallels from my Mac...

Waiting will make the receiving all that sweeter... Do not think for one minute that I diminish your needs for the feature... I too have that but we will rejoice when it finally arrives and we can use Designer to its full potential... Can you imaging the fun I can have doing architectural details with the unbelievable zooming capabilities of Designer

Till the we will have to wait...

p.s.  I looked in the stocking at Christmas and there was no Zero point mover in it... I must admit ... that was the moment I stopped believing in Santa...

As for “amazing, but not surprising”, if you’re not surprised then I don’t understand how you can be amazed that the feature hasn’t been added yet.

It's amazing, but not surprising, that my criticism of lack of ruler zero point shift in AD is not possible has been omitted. I must really affirm that this is a real productivity and vital feature for me.

Can someone let me know when this finally appears?

I have been good all year and as much as I would really like that 1973 Porsche... all I want for Christmas is a movable Zero point so I can finally get rid of all those other programs and use Designer for everything... I have been waiting since the day one version one... so please please please ... can you ask those terrific elves at Affinity to make me a present for Christmas???

I promise to be good all next year if you will just give me that one thing...

    Thanks Santa

Ecnavda reacted to Hokusai in The Siren
Just wanted to share my take on what was originally a Hokusai ukiyo-e print (Hokusai Katsushika, 1760 - 1849, not me). I'm sorry I can remember the original name of this print but I thought Siren was a good name for it (but keep in mind that is the name of my version and not the actual name of the print that mine is based on). I saw it somewhere on my travels and I snapped a shot of it but the print was not in very good shape so I decided to recreate it using Designer. While Hokusai is most famous for his "Great Wave at Kanagawa" he made thousands of prints and there are many that are just as incredible as the "Great Wave".

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work,
    Hokusai (not Katsushika)

I've been posting on the forum here since Designer was released in 2014 but I've never posted anything of my own in the "Share your work". I'm always impressed by what others post and it inspired me to post something of my own. I chose this picture because it was so complex and it was overwhelming the amount of objects that I had to draw but I used it as a test to see how far Designer has come and I have to say that it has come a long ways since it was first released. Designer never quit or locked up on me and it performed beyond my expectations, especially on a project with so many boolean operations. I took an image that was done originally by the amazingly talented Gustave Doré and redid it completely in vectors using Designer. I did everything "by hand" as they say, I didn't use any kind of vectorizer as I feel that the results are never good enough. I also did the whole thing with a mouse, no Wacom. Somethings had to be created from scratch as the original was damaged in places so there are actually many differences between my version and the original but I think I've been able to maintain the spirit of the original. I've included some screenshots of the outlines to give you an idea of how many different objects there are. I'd like to give a giant "Thanks!" to MattP and the other developers for all their hard work. I'm especially thankful to them for adding a "Hide/Show All" command into Designer. It helped me greatly with this picture and I look forward to seeing what they will think of next.

    Thanks for letting me share.

Gran Turismo Sport now allow users to import SVG files for the in-game livery editor. The only thing is, the SVG file has to be below 15Kb in memory, which is pretty tiny.
It's a nice challenge though, to chop away as much unneeded information as possible, but to still get a good quality image. I created this vector file using Affinity Designer, which I then exported as the SVG file.
I then used the livery editor to give my bog standard go-kart a new design.

The Gran Turismo screenshots are in game. I'm just showing them to illustrate how the decal design looks on the go-kart!

I was going to do this drawing in Illustrator but read about Serif/Affinity wanting images for their 1.6 promo material so thought I’d give AD a try for the first time. This will be my submission and it so happens the GTI had a 1.6 engine early on.

Hopefully any Golf aficionado will recognise it as an imaginary custom series 1 Mk1 Golf GTI (1.6l 8v) in Miami blue. It’s been de-wipered, lowered, smoked lights, chrome bumpers, no arches and some really nice alloys you can’t see! I couldn’t decide on the colour, either Mars red or Miami blue. Obviously went with blue but the body just uses a single global colour so easy to change my mind later.

All in all it went fairly smoothly, if you know Illustrator you pretty much know AD. Some things I really liked, one thing I really didn’t (I’m looking at you layers palette).  Overall it was fun and good practice. Never used so many gaussian blurs before.

As it's bank holiday weekend I've a little time to go back to it and tweak it if I decide I need to.

I'm loving the symbols. The symmetry is extremely useful and working with the objects in a symbol is easy. My snowflake is based on a 24 point star and 1 symbol duplicated onto every other point, making it simple to create a snowflake with the pen tool. The symmetry is brilliant and works with everything I've thrown at it from quick shapes and brushwork to things I'd painted in pixels - though the program did crash constantly when I tried to move a circular design that was probably a very large file size because of all the jpg images in it. No work was lost, though, it was all recovered.

Moving the ruler and grid origins will be in 1.7.   The work has been done, but was part of a major reworking that couldn't be included in 1.6.  It will go through Beta when we get into the next cycle.  Due to the changes incurred it will require a full Beta cycle, hence why it is going to be in 1.7.
