Tupaia got a reaction from woefi in Resource Manager should be dockable
    Hello!
Any particular reason why the Resource Manager is not a regular, dockable Panel? Like in InDesign.
It's non-modal, ok, but it would be handy if it would not occlude viewport space, needlessly.
    Thanks!

    This is already possible.
Click the (3x3) Anchor Point Selector a second time, and the Transform Center is selected and show.
One of Affinity's little hidden Easter eggs.

Thanks, I know. When there's no other way, we have to fall back to workarounds - but we want to work, not work around, right?
@Oval: you seem to have earned your respect around here with that many posts. However, since you repeatedly point me to the help about input field expression, which do NOT offer a solution for what I mean, I'm under the impression that you don't understand what it's about. Also, you are no Affinity representative, are you. This is a simple wish that makes sense. So I suggest to leave feature decisions to them, and to stop worrying if it comes your way or not.
Trying to make myself clearer, again:
True, when you enter a % value in the W or H field (thanks to expressions), it already does scale the object(s). However, this scale value is NOT remembered in the object's transform matrix (the little data package that stores pos, rot, scl, shr). The new size is 'baked' into the object's geometry, so to speak  (in a 3D program, this would be an "automatic scale freeze" or something analogous - in e.g. Cinema 4D, this is a dedicated UI button).
To restore an object's original size then, you would need to remember all the scales you did in the meantime, and enter the reciproke - too much hassle, although expressions would allow for it. Or use helper lines/objects. Not so nice, either.

What I propose is simply that the scale value is also remembered & exposed, just like position, rotation, shear. First, because it's consistent, second, because then you can reset objects to their original scale by simply entering 100% or 1.0. (I have to correct myself here. In my post from 21.11.2016  I thought InDesign does remember the %-value - it does not.)

    Tried. I can't see where.

Aside from that scale thing, additionally, next to this box icon in the transform panel , there should be also the choice "Transform Origin". One should be able to numerically rotate/shear/scale around that freely positionable origin, too, not only interactively.

    Hello!
Any update on that numeric 'Scale' input field (both width & height)? It's still missing.
One example case: for my architectural layout work, I often need a way to display plans in their original scale, or fractions/multiples of it. Once a plan has been scaled, how would I go back to the original size?
-> see the mockup of how the transform panel could look like.
And please also think about adding a switch for the Transform Origin - if it is turned on, numeric rotation/scale/shearing would take place around the Origin (not only center/corners).
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello!
The arrow keys and page up/down could be put to better use in the Layer Studio (or am I missing something?).
1 - When you hover the cursor over the layer studio, arrows and page up/down could select the next/previous item in the list.
Left/right arrow keys could move up/down a hierarchy.
2 - Holding some modifier key (SHIFT etc.) while pressing up/down arrows could MOVE the selected element(s) in the list (as opposed to SELECTING next/previous).

For both, it should not be necessary to click-set focus on the layer studio. Just hovering should do.

    Thanks!

    Hi!
Simple one, as the title says.
It's strange enough (for long-time Photoshop users) that masks are obviously not simply greyscale images. For convenience, please at least don't 'hide' that conversion feature in the Layer menu, but put it also in the RMB context menu of the layer panel.
    Thanks!!

Python will just be bundled into the applications and loaded as a library. As mentioned above, virtually every other content creation package as well as virtually all other commercial applications that want to offer scripting are using Python these days (LUA is the other one you see occasionally).
AppleScript is not portable, VBA is not portable, Javascript is honestly a terrible application scripting language (though you get a little bit of synergy from how ubiquitous it is in the web design world) and requires at least as much infrastructure if not more than Python to include in your software.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that the Affinity scripting language is going to be Python.
As far as learning another language goes, Python is so ubiquitous these days that learning a little python will pay back dividends over and over for you in the future. Also when you're using it as a scripting tool you don't need to know much of the language as you can get a long way (farther than Javascript in my opinion) by just copying and modifying example code.

Tupaia got a reaction from Intuos5 in Isolate mode improvements
    Hello!
A few suggestions to make the Isolate mode actually usable:

    - It should be possible to isolate multiple separate objects(=layers) at once.
As of now, if multiple layers are selected, ALT-clicking one of the selected layers isolates only this layer, not all of them!
Workaround: Group the objects, then isolate. This is not really practical, however.
Better than ALT-clicking: a separate command with assignable keyboard shortcut for 'Isolate'!
    - Also, a better way to leave isolate mode than clicking empty space would be good!
Why? What if I have multiple objects(=layers) isolated and then want to select parts of them, to group, arrange, cut, or isolate further, ... not possible because the moment you click somewhere, you fall out of isolate mode.
-> There should be a separate command with assignable keyshort for 'Unisolate'.

An clean Isolate mode with this functionality is very important to master complex scenes, and in the meantime it is supported by practically all CAD, 3d, or 2d vector programs (Rhino, Cinema4d, 3ds max,  Softimage, Maya, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, ...), for good reasons!
    Thanks for considering!

    Hello!
It's about consistency. I see a transform box, and I expect it to have a center, no matter if I'm in object mode (Move Tool) or component mode (Node Tool).
One can ask the opposite question: what sense does it make NOT to be able to rotate or scale about a freely chosen point in point mode??

Also, the transform panel is inactive in that mode. Shouldn't be, either.

    Thanks for listening!!

It would be very useful to have functions to select the same:

Color fill stroke (color / width) Appearance To quickly select all your outlines, or background element in 1 color.
    Speed is everything.  :)

Tupaia got a reaction from Affitoom in Node Tool - Delete Nodes variations
    Hello!
Has been discussed, I know, but scattered all over the place.

With the Node Tool, it should be possible to delete nodes in these variants:
    - Without adapting the neighbouring  tangents - that's the existing behavior. Shortcut could be: left-doubleclick (besides DEL)
    - With adapting the neighbouring tangets, so that the curvature is preserved as good as possible (CorelDraw can do this). Possible shortcut: CTRL-left-doubleclick
    - With also deleting the neighbouring curve segments. Possible shortcut: CTRL-ALT-left-doubleclick.

    Regarding shortcuts:
Choose any combination of mouse pointer and modifier keys you like for node editing, but avoid having to use DEL or other keys wich are harder to reach.
    Thanks for considering!!

Tupaia reacted to joro_abv in Isometric studio is helpful, but when do we get a real free transform tool in Designer ?!
    Hi,
I was trying the isometric studio in the latest beta, in an effort to use it as e replacement for a real "Free transform" tool and ... well ... it does not cut it ! It is hard to use and with a result very far from precise enough to replace a real free transform and distort of an object.
So, I'm trying to rise this question again - when do we get a real "Free transform" tool in Designer (both vector and pixel) ? Since basically every other tool on the market including Illustrator and even the now dead Fireworks has it, I guess it is not that hard to implement, for vectors at least.
