    Hello!
    AD 1.8.0.555.
After a while, the Pan tool stops working, either when invoked with SPACE, or the toolbar icon.
If it does, it's also non-working in any new document that is opened.
What helps is to restart AD.
    Thanks for looking into this!
    Best regards

I'd argue that because there are so many keyboard shortcuts is precisely why the search box should search them!
It is very frustrating scrolling through a huge list especially when you aren't sure where to look, or if the shortcut even exists.
    For example: Toggle Lock Children.
I searched through ~300 shortcuts just to find there is not keyboard option available.

OK, we've intentionally not included the list of keyboard shortcuts in the search (as there's so many it could make it difficult to find the preferences page you wanted), we could potentially look at adding this to the search results as well.

    Allright allright, thanks!
Since I have your attention, and it remotely suits the topic:
PLEASE think about changing windows modifier keys in a way that does NOT involve pressing left AND right mouse button at the same time. It's not ergonomic with a Wacom pen, and difficult enough with a mouse. Please. Thank you!

Tip: when you have drawn the selection marquee and hold the right mouse button when releasing the left mouse button (yes, finger acrobatics), it will toggle this option.
In other words, when the preference is off, and you hold RMB when releasing the LMB, it will 'intersect select' nonetheless. Windows here - don't know the Mac shortcut.

Note: There would be better ways to toggle this selection behavior. In many CAD applications or 3D programs, if you draw the marquee from right to left, it selects in 'crossing'='intersect' mode, if you draw it from left to right, it selects in 'window' mode. Super handy! I wish it was the same here.
At least, there should be a modifier key (like ALT) to toggle.

    +1!
Every click combination that involves left AND right mouse button at the same time should be changed! (There are a few others, like resizing the brush in AP, moving an object by it's origin in AD, or toggling "intersect with selection marquee"). Requested this a long time ago already.
Worse, when using a Wacom tablet, working the left mouse button (which is a tap with the pen tip) and right MB (can be on the rocker switch) together, becomes a fumble fest.
On top of that, the sequence of which mouse button has to be released first plays a role, too! (The fact that interactive zoom is only invoked by SPACE+CTRL, not vice versa, has been criticized numerous times).
I really don't understand why Affinity sticks so stubbornly to nonsense like that, bright as they are most places. Especially when it would be such a simple fix.

    Hi all,
I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap.
I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill.
    Cheers,

    My selection:
    - Make the preferences dialog resizable! (We are not in the era of cathode ray tube monitors anymore, with like 800x600 px resolution, where such a thing made some remote sense...)
    - That search field pretty much never found what I was looking for, mostly in the command list, for changing keyshorts.
    - Those left/right arrows in the top left work like a browser history, which in this context is pretty useless. It's too hard to remember in which category I was after more than two switches. Would be better if they just stepped through the categories regardless of what was opened last.

There might be more pressing issues than this dialog, but it's worth a rework nonetheless. Experimental interfaces are fair and good, as long as they work well.

True, but it misses a Center! That cripples it, because how do you rotate/scale about an arbitrary center now?

Tupaia reacted to SKT7 in Full screen mode for preview for all Affinity programs!
I am really loving all the Affinity applications in including the Publisher Beta.
But what I really miss is a true full-screen mode in any Affinity program for a preview without any distraction that hides all tools, toolbars and guides with a single tap of a button(s).
It would be great to have a full-screen mode for all Affinity software, preferably with the same keyboard shortcut.
    What do you think?

By the way, Is there any reason why a true full-screen mode is not added to Affinity?

I don't think the glitchy sample above looks like a pencil... I suppose you mean a different brush type...?
Designer is quite good when it comes to combining vectors and bitmaps but unfortunately it is still not robust enough in pure vector department...
I don't need to simulate a pencil very often - I've got several different pencils on my table and they work just fine. Pencil simulation could be useful sometimes but the most important thing I want from a vector editor are smooth curves and smooth looking strokes because I can't create them with real pencils. Unfortunately it usually takes some parameter tweaking to make them look "right" or "real" in Designer so it slows down my work.

Tupaia got a reaction from Intuos5 in Isolate mode improvements
    Hello!
A few suggestions to make the Isolate mode actually usable:

    - It should be possible to isolate multiple separate objects(=layers) at once.
As of now, if multiple layers are selected, ALT-clicking one of the selected layers isolates only this layer, not all of them!
Workaround: Group the objects, then isolate. This is not really practical, however.
Better than ALT-clicking: a separate command with assignable keyboard shortcut for 'Isolate'!
    - Also, a better way to leave isolate mode than clicking empty space would be good!
Why? What if I have multiple objects(=layers) isolated and then want to select parts of them, to group, arrange, cut, or isolate further, ... not possible because the moment you click somewhere, you fall out of isolate mode.
-> There should be a separate command with assignable keyshort for 'Unisolate'.

An clean Isolate mode with this functionality is very important to master complex scenes, and in the meantime it is supported by practically all CAD, 3d, or 2d vector programs (Rhino, Cinema4d, 3ds max,  Softimage, Maya, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, ...), for good reasons!
    Thanks for considering!
    Best regards

Tupaia got a reaction from matisso in Issue with selections - adding, subtracting, inverting
    Hello!
Here's a suggestion on how to improve the way existing object selections are expanded/reduced, especially when you want to select amidst many overlapping object.
As an example, for illustrating the issue, I chose an 8x8 grid of boxes. Say I want to select objects in the corners like so:

To get this, of course you could simply select 4 times with the marquee around what you need like so...

However, there would be a simpler and faster way: select all...

... then subtract what you don't need. First, the middle columns...

... for which you would of course hold SHIFT when drawing the selection marquee.
    Then the middle rows...

.. wait! That's not working... SHIFT obviously INVERTS the selection! That's not good!

Here's the wish: there should be different modifier keys to reliably ADD, SUBTRACT and INVERT the selection when using the Move Tool marquee!
This example is simple, but imagine a forest of overlapping lines, and you want to predictably select and/or deselect with the marquee. This can become a nightmare when you only have the option to INVERT the selection. Lines can become re-selected etc.
Adobe Illustrator always had the same issue, and I hate their selection mechanism for that! Had this case recently in our architectural office, editing building facade graphics. A time consuming hassle...

    My proposal would be:
SHIFT always ADDS to the selection,
CTRL always SUBTRACTS from the selection (seems to be unused at the moment in the Move Tool),
    CTRL-SHIFT always INVERTS the selection.
Together with the option "Select objects when intersects with selection marquee" (which by the way should be invoked with a simpler shortcut that LMB-RMB-drag!), selection mechanics would be super clean and logical!
It's kind of standard in numerous CAD applications I use (Rhino, 3d Max, ...) - always made total sense.
    (Windows user here)
    Thanks!!

Tupaia got a reaction from Affitoom in Node Tool - Delete Nodes variations
    Hello!
Has been discussed, I know, but scattered all over the place.

With the Node Tool, it should be possible to delete nodes in these variants:
    - Without adapting the neighbouring  tangents - that's the existing behavior. Shortcut could be: left-doubleclick (besides DEL)
    - With adapting the neighbouring tangets, so that the curvature is preserved as good as possible (CorelDraw can do this). Possible shortcut: CTRL-left-doubleclick
    - With also deleting the neighbouring curve segments. Possible shortcut: CTRL-ALT-left-doubleclick.

    Regarding shortcuts:
Choose any combination of mouse pointer and modifier keys you like for node editing, but avoid having to use DEL or other keys wich are harder to reach.
    Thanks for considering!!
    Best regards

Any news on this one? A "True" isolate mode? (not the ALT-click-a-layer-thing which falls out of isolation the moment you click anywhere)
I concur with pier, this is much more than a 'nice to have' feature!
I do a lot of CAD and 3D work, too, and you wouldn't get along without an isolate feature there. Same here, in complex drawings.

Any particular reason why the Resource Manager is not a regular, dockable Panel? Like in InDesign.
It's non-modal, ok, but it would be handy if it would not occlude viewport space, needlessly.
