Tupaia got a reaction from woefi in Is IDML export from Publisher going to be supported?
    Dear Affinity team!
Can we get an official statement if the IDML (InDesign markup language) file format will ever be supported for export from Publisher?
'Ever' like in the next few years...
I assume you are aware why this is important in a mixed team with Adobe products. It's great to be able to import from InDesign, but as of now it's a one way ticked. Not being able to export from Publisher to InDesign means the whole team might be forced to use the Affinity suite, if just one member decides to use Publisher. That often results in the decision to not use Publisher at all.
It would be desirable to leave the choice to the user, of course.
In my book, the Affinity suite in the meantime is on par or superior to the equivalent Adobe programs (disregarded any cloud AI features etc.), but it's super hard to convince our office superiors to switch.
If roundtripping would be possible, the matter would be a very different one.
Even if IDML might not be fully feature complete compared to the .indd or .afpub formats, it is feature rich enough to work as a common ground. It surely would for our needs.
It has been asked before, I know, but I could not find any definite answer to your company policy in this regard.
    Thanks a lot!

    Well, worth a try... =}
Doesn't hurt the good people at Serif if we knock on their door again about this feature, wether they answer or not.
(Guess I'm used to roam the Rhino 3D discourse forum, where any member has a direct wire to the developers, and even access to the feature/bugtracking website.)

You can probably use the Shape Builder Tool for most of what you want to do, but its efficacy will depend on the design you're using it on – see attached video.

Tupaia reacted to Dan C in APub: filename as subtext?
    Hi @Tupaia,
Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible directly from the resource manager in v2.1.1, however our latest beta update v2.2 allows for both images and file locations to be imported using Data Merge, as outlined here -
Therefore you could create a data merge document with your images & file paths, then use this to import the fields into your Publisher document - though this is not a direct link to the file itself, so if the file moves/changes you would need to update this path in the data merge document and regenerate the Publisher file to see the changes.
If you aren't already part of the beta program, you can find out how to sign up here -
    I hope this helps

Tupaia got a reaction from Intuos5 in Isolate mode improvements
    Hello!
A few suggestions to make the Isolate mode actually usable:

    - It should be possible to isolate multiple separate objects(=layers) at once.
As of now, if multiple layers are selected, ALT-clicking one of the selected layers isolates only this layer, not all of them!
Workaround: Group the objects, then isolate. This is not really practical, however.
Better than ALT-clicking: a separate command with assignable keyboard shortcut for 'Isolate'!
    - Also, a better way to leave isolate mode than clicking empty space would be good!
Why? What if I have multiple objects(=layers) isolated and then want to select parts of them, to group, arrange, cut, or isolate further, ... not possible because the moment you click somewhere, you fall out of isolate mode.
-> There should be a separate command with assignable keyshort for 'Unisolate'.

An clean Isolate mode with this functionality is very important to master complex scenes, and in the meantime it is supported by practically all CAD, 3d, or 2d vector programs (Rhino, Cinema4d, 3ds max,  Softimage, Maya, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, ...), for good reasons!
    Thanks for considering!
    Best regards

Hi guys. I want to take part in help for Affinity Photo. Here is custom make grass brushes and example, that was made by me. If you have any comments or ideas to add/fix them - i will adjust/update them.
Each brush - it is not only one image, but at least 3 different variations of it. So when you draw - it draws in series 1,2,3,1,2,3,....like frames in movies - so the grass texture looks more natural and random.
The brush rotates according to drawing direction/route. If you don't need it - got to brush settings Dynamic/Rotation jitter - and set it to ZERO %

2017.12.24 - Version updated to 0.2. See attached pictures for explanations   Also i attach small palette for green hues.
2017.12.18 - They are 4 brushes. First 3 - intensity brushes, and last one - image brush.

+1 for IDML export from Publisher!
I would like to introduce the Affinity suite in our architectural office, which uses Adobe traditionally. It super easy to open existing InDesign booklets in Publisher, but it's a one-way-ticket. That is why I could not convince people fully.
Even if the format would not guarantee 100% compatibility, it would be a tremendous help.
    Thanks!

Tupaia got a reaction from thedivclass in Selection improvements
    Hello!
Apologies if this has been discussed before...

When working with many overlapping objects, the current selection engine shows it's weaknesses, so:

    1)
For the Move and Node tool, there should be modifier keys to:
always and reliably ADD to the selection, maybe SHIFT,
always and reliably SUBTRACT from the selected obejcts or nodes, like CTRL,
and one to INVERT what is selected, like CTRL-SHIFT.

I just discovered that there is no way to SUBTRACT nodes from a selection of nodes. That's a no-go!

Besides 2d vector programs I also work with numerous CAD and 3D programs also, and the aforementioned system has proven to be the cleares and most efficient. You might take my word for it.

    2)
For the Node tool, there should be a modifier key to select ALL nodes in the object, maybe by double-LMB-clicking on a node,
and maybe the same modifier key to de-select all nodes of the object, without de-selecting everything else, too.
It's very handy to be able to 'mix' a selection of single nodes and whole objects (by just selecting all their nodes)!

    3)
The option "Select object when intersects with selection marquee" works automatically when you LMB-drag over the object(s), and then additionally hold-release the RMB.
This has been asked a year ago - can you please change this, so that no 2 mouse buttons need to be pressed at once? That's just not handy, especially if one works with a Wacom pen instead of a mouse.
The ALT key could simply be used when drawing the marquee, or, like in other programs, the drawing direction of the marquee (from right to left or left to right) could make the difference.

    4)
Curve segments should be selectable! (a segment the part of a curve between two nodes)
The simple version would be, if some modifier key is pressed (maybe ALT) and a segment is clicked, it's two neighbouring nodes are selected.
If SHIFT and CTRL would work as selection-add or -subtract, more segments could be added to or subtracted from the node selection.

The fancy verison would be that segments are actual, selectable, movable components of the object. 3ds Max for example has this concept implemented.
I'd be fine with the node selection version, though. =)

Please don't repeat the big mistake that Adobe Illustrator makes, having a crappy, awkward selection engine!

    Thanks!!
    Best regards
    Eugen

Tupaia got a reaction from JiaChen ZENG in Node Tool, Click+RightMouse is mechanically difficult
    +1!
Every click combination that involves left AND right mouse button at the same time should be changed! (There are a few others, like resizing the brush in AP, moving an object by it's origin in AD, or toggling "intersect with selection marquee"). Requested this a long time ago already.
Worse, when using a Wacom tablet, working the left mouse button (which is a tap with the pen tip) and right MB (can be on the rocker switch) together, becomes a fumble fest.
On top of that, the sequence of which mouse button has to be released first plays a role, too! (The fact that interactive zoom is only invoked by SPACE+CTRL, not vice versa, has been criticized numerous times).
I really don't understand why Affinity sticks so stubbornly to nonsense like that, bright as they are most places. Especially when it would be such a simple fix.

Tupaia got a reaction from Affitoom in Node Tool - Delete Nodes variations
    Hello!
Has been discussed, I know, but scattered all over the place.

With the Node Tool, it should be possible to delete nodes in these variants:
    - Without adapting the neighbouring  tangents - that's the existing behavior. Shortcut could be: left-doubleclick (besides DEL)
    - With adapting the neighbouring tangets, so that the curvature is preserved as good as possible (CorelDraw can do this). Possible shortcut: CTRL-left-doubleclick
    - With also deleting the neighbouring curve segments. Possible shortcut: CTRL-ALT-left-doubleclick.

    Regarding shortcuts:
Choose any combination of mouse pointer and modifier keys you like for node editing, but avoid having to use DEL or other keys wich are harder to reach.
    Thanks for considering!!
    Best regards

Affinity also really needs a plugin interface. If it had, someone would have slapped on that stupid DWG/DXF importer (and exporter, too) in no time.
It stinks that affinity has this somewhat hermetic attitude towards features. Saying as a user that advertises it since years, and uses it whenever possible.

Tupaia got a reaction from sbe in Am I missing it? Numeric Scale?..
    Hello!
Any update on that numeric 'Scale' input field (both width & height)? It's still missing.
One example case: for my architectural layout work, I often need a way to display plans in their original scale, or fractions/multiples of it. Once a plan has been scaled, how would I go back to the original size?
-> see the mockup of how the transform panel could look like.
And please also think about adding a switch for the Transform Origin - if it is turned on, numeric rotation/scale/shearing would take place around the Origin (not only center/corners).
    Thanks a lot!
