Very nice! It can be difficult to simplify sometimes. You’ve pulled it off!

raymondemery reacted to Mithferion in [ADe] Kawaii Pug
Hi everyone!
Hope you are having a great weekend. Well, I wanted to share something I did and something new for me: drawing a Pug using a "Kawaii style". The intention is to create a character and then having said character in different moods and situations (like Facebook stickers).
As I said, this style is something new for me, so any feedback and tip will be appreciated.
Best regards!

Blending a mass of shapes, (raymondemery, thanks for your post) Massive self-indulgence, eye candy if you will. Might eventually find a use for the tool marks made in the blending playground.

I'm always amazed with the things you can do with blend modes. This is just 4 circles, multiplied and repeated on a 9° rotation. So simple. So beautiful.

raymondemery got a reaction from peter in Shading with Gaussian Blur
I've been focusing on shaing and coloring techniques in Affinity Designer lately. With this Blue Cobalt Shot Glass, I used gaussian blur, layer blending modes (Color Burn and Average) and opacity to acheive the effect that I was looking for.
What methods would you use?
UPDATE 3/15/2015
Thank you for all of the great input.
I'm including the following to this post:
The original image I used for inspiration My .afdesign file so you can see the layers Further Explanation (What I was trying to acheive)
My goal was to make this illustration as "real" as possible. I've been expirementing with Gaussian blur, gradients, blending modes and opacity to acheive realistic highlights and shading.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, the link (Wow, that blog is loaded and I'm a huge fan of Dinotopia) and your original artwork file.
I've edited my original post to include my .afdesign file and the original pic I used as inspiration.

raymondemery reacted to Garytagreg in Sony IC recorder
Hi all
Its been a while since I posted any work and I was wanting to make another custom icon for a device I plug into my computer again: this time my "Sony IC Recorder" voice recorder.
I wasn't able to match the fonts exactly, but it looks good enough for me (especially when its resized really small when used as an icon!). I did find the advanced font adjustments useful at getting "close" to the originals. I was also quite happy with how easy it was to give the rounded effect on the top and the bottom of the device by simple adding more points to a gradient and moving them around until I got a convincing shading.
I also took the opportunity to make a custom style for the LCD display, so now if I want one, I just click once and all the works already done! :)
Hope you like it :)

Interesting technique raymondemery.
Given the incredible ease of pixel painting inside of vector shapes with brushes in designer, I would probably use a combination of 'airbrush' soft spraying buildup and maybe some blurred highlight shapes to add form and reflections to add a bit of a glass like feel.

Hi everybody.
Here goes my first image in AD, after years of using Inkscape.
I miss many tools (...soon to come), but the software runs like a charm in my old macbook pro, and the ability to combine bitmap and vector drawing is just awesome!!!!
The image was inspired after the whole christmas holidays spent installing lamps at my home.
I hope you like it!.

Is there a way to change the color of the grid lines? They can be difficult to see on certain projects.

After many dark days I am waiting for spring. Started this with a ballpen drawing (attached) and finished it in Affinity. Many layer fx and gradients used. I really like the possibility to insert different markers in the gradient panel - very helpful.
The idea was she is waking up from a deep sleep, the bird with her. Winter hasn't left yet but the little color-glows are already pointing towards spring.
Used a mix of muted colors and fresher accents.
