Andando reacted to Bound by Beans in GREP. It's absolutely vital.
Exactly – given the time costs today in terms of time and material, the monthly Adobe subscription pays for itself when time is spent on workarounds or limitations. If Serif doesn’t improve Publisher, there’s no business case for the software – neither financially nor in terms of features. Publisher will end up like a playful version of MS Publisher, only with Canva making it.
It’s so obvious that the regular members here have little understanding of the processes a book like @Beemo8Bit goes through in an InDesign setup, or the kind of economics involved in a professional commercial setup. Unfortunately, Serif has yet to realize that they are positioning Publisher in a market where the offering still falls short of professional customers’ actual needs.

Enable canvas rotation with trackpad Enable canvas rotation with Cmd+ Scroll Wheel On Windows in the same location:
Enable canvas rotation with Alt+ Scroll Wheel In addition, you can of course also set a keyboard shortcut for View > Reset Rotation...

Andando reacted to Zekiko_ch in Art&Style Magazine A4 and US Letter size
Hello everyone,
my name is Cyril, I'm a freelance graphic designer (ZEKIKO) and I live in Switzerland near Lausanne. I've been using Serif software for a while now, and I must say it's nice to use something other than Adobe. 🤑
I created an entire A4 magazine design using 🥳Affinity Publisher 2🥳.
It's a modern design, ideal for communications agencies or for your own personal projects.
A4 and US Letter size
16 pages
30 layouts
20 single pages
10 double pages
4 covers
4 table of contents
2 editorials
1 full page ad
You can find it on "Gumroad" or on "Creative Market". I intend to make other designs using Serif's tools. It's actually a pleasure to work with them! 😍
Cheers! 😀

Andando reacted to MikeTO in Unofficial PDF Manual - Expert Guide to Affinity Publisher
Updated for Publisher 2.6 (Feb 2025)
Publisher Manual Feb 3 2025.pdf
This free, 390-page manual is filled with steps, tips, and recommendations:
Everything you need to know about documents, pages, spreads, master pages, text formatting, text styles, text frames, picture images, books and chapters, sections, cross-references, tables of contents, indexing, footnotes and endnotes, page numbering, running headers, fields, anchors and hyperlinks, printing and exporting, and customising settings New sections for multi-page spreads, the reading order panel, guides, grids, snapping, and other features This manual does not describe the illustration and photo editing features Q&A
Is this really free? Yes, it's copyrighted only to prevent others from publishing it as their own Is there a longer manual I can purchase? No Is there a version for Designer or Photo? No, but many of the features are the same so it will still be relevant Is there an iPad version? No, the steps and screenshots are for the macOS and Windows versions Why does it use a print layout if it's a PDF? It's a demonstration of how to use the features it describes to create a print book You might also like:

Andando reacted to privateEyeIllustration in Aliens Ripley Character Study
Ripley from Aliens painted in Affinity photo. One of my first times using Affinity after making the switch from Adobe. Experimented with various brushes, perhaps soft brushes set to low opacity. The fog is created with a smoke or fog brush, tons of options out there. I still prefer traditional pencils, charcoals, and blenders for anything in the "portrait" world. I remember reading in a tutorial that soft brushes can give your work a "plastic" look to it. The world is yours, create awesome artwork and keep learning!

Andando reacted to Chris Heath in AD's New Spiral Tool Featuring Pantone's 2024 Colour of the Year
I thought I'd take Affinity Designer's amazing new spiral tool for a spin in a recent Spoonflower competition. Spoonflower is a print-on-demand service for anyone who wants to buy printed fabrics and wallpaper. These spirals incorporate Pantone Peach Fuzz and Peach Blossom. Peach Fuzz is the 2024 Colour of the Year.
The image above was rendered in Cheetah 3D. The remaining images are Spoonflower mockups.
These patterns can be bought printed on demand; not just on fabric and wallpaper, but also as ready-made duvet covers, pillow cases, table cloths and napkins. https://www.spoonflower.com/en/collections/796023-spirals-by-geometrical_design?productType=FABRIC
I'll be adding more spiral patterns to this collection over the months to come.

If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
If you still have the 2.1 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.2 beta. If you have uninstalled the 2.1 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.2 beta from there. Thanks,
Ash

Andando reacted to Ash in Go to previously viewed spread
Apps: Publisher
Platforms: All
There is now a new option to go to your previously viewed spread in Affinity Publisher. So, for example, if you are on page 30 and then go to page 400 to edit something, clicking on previously viewed spread will jump you back to page 30 (and hitting again will jump back to page 400 – so you can switch between the two pages quickly).
You can find this option in the Document menu (Previously Viewed Page) for which you could optionally set a keyboard shortcut for as well as using the new button with the rest of the page navigation options in the bottom left of the UI as highlighted with arrow below:
On the iPad version you can find this option at the bottom of the view menu:

Andando reacted to Ash in Long press tool shortcuts
Apps: All
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
Holding onto any tool shortcut will now just put you in that tool temporarily until you release the shortcut key - at which point you will return to your previous tool. So for example when you are using the pen tool you could hold V to change to move tool to move your curve, and then on release be immediately back in pen tool. Another useful example would be when in Brush Tool, you could hold E to put you in Eraser and release to toggle back to Brush.

Andando reacted to rayhal in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
This is a stupid move by the developers. I own my PC, it is not a phone or a tablet and I want to control what goes on the PC and where it goes. I didn't spend time setting up partitions and drivers for fun. I have a particular drive for programs and that is where they go or they don't get installed - end of!
Version 2 is now uninstalled and I will never buy another Serif product until they fix this. The reason I went to Affinity suite in the first place was because Adobe ruined photoshop by their subscription/online nonsense.

Andando reacted to Zero Zero in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
Just bought the Suite and could not find the installation files so was unable to create shortcuts and worse unable to find a way to run the software! The only way I could launch the software was to double-click on the downloaded installation files which gave me the option to Launch from there. Total irritation and confusion.
However in the meantime after much faffing about through the Forum I discovered to my dismay that these are "App" files and do not install into the Program folder of my C drive and do not appear in my Programs & Features... How do I uninstall them?
I absolutely hate this unexplained change to installing/removing software and am not happy with the way this has been implemented, particularly as no advanced notification (as far as I could tell) was given.
I very much like what Serif is doing with Affinity and love the software but cannot stand this insane change to the standard installation procedure.
Please Serif fix this unwanted installation mess asap. and please retain some independence from the dumbing-down that Micro$oft continually applies to Windows in the so-called attempt to make it better.
I sincerely hope you listen.

Andando reacted to NoLongerHere in Fish and Chip Shop
One that's fairly local to me, I got rid of some bits like the ugly modern lamp post. I was going to add more people but most said not to, so I didn't.

Andando reacted to NoLongerHere in Thunderbird 1
Based on a studio model used for one the Thunderbird comics. I changed the back wall to be head on, I thought it would look neater being a little more simple. Yeah I know the wings wouldn't normally be extended but they are as it looks better, perhaps it's being spring cleaned or something!

Andando reacted to GarryP in 1950s-style ‘Creature Feature’ movie title still experiments
Here are some experiments, of varying quality, that I was playing around with at the weekend.
Apart from some (modified) background images everything was done in Designer and Photo.
They’re not what I would call ‘production ready’ but they’re okay as long as you don’t go looking for problems.
(Any resemblance to real movies or organisations is purely accidental.)

Andando reacted to Mithferion in Affinity Designer - Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP
Hi there!
Years ago, when Windows Vista was about to be launched, Microsoft also launched installers for Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11. They did some efforts to improve the UI of both programs.
I was still using Windows XP and I have to say that I loved the WMP 11 Itnerface back then (I used Winamp mostly, to be honest but still...), so I searched for some Screenshots and tried to replicate the UI using Designer. I think I got really close to the original and it's a joy for me doing this kind of works.
I'd like to know if anyone else liked this as well.
Just in case anyone is interested, for some reason, I attached the AFDESIGN File (V1).
I used Inter for the interface text and everything you see is Vector:
Best regards!

Andando reacted to Iajhy in Concept Exotic Car
Hello Affinity fellows!
This is a car design I've done a while ago, using Affinity Designer 1.x.
I'm pretty excited about version 2, lots of workarounds on the timelapse will be done easily on version 2.
Hope you guys like the result ☺️
Thank you Affinity ❤️
P.S. If you like this kind of work, please, consider follow my YouTube channel 🙏, soon I’ll upload more content ☺️

Andando got a reaction from AutomatonicGinfizz in Rock tribute portraits illustrations
Hello everyone. This is my first time sharing something on the forum. I've been using the affinity designer V2 since its launch and I'm very comfortable working with it. It has made my work process much easier, and right now I feel hooked on it. I just wanted to share some illustrations of this last month with you and show my work process in the video.
The serie is not finished yet but you can get and idea of how it goes...
Best regards
