Getting the 2.2 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.2 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
If you still have the 2.1 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.2 beta. If you have uninstalled the 2.1 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.2 beta from there. Thanks,
Ash

Andando reacted to Ash in Go to previously viewed spread
Apps: Publisher
Platforms: All
There is now a new option to go to your previously viewed spread in Affinity Publisher. So, for example, if you are on page 30 and then go to page 400 to edit something, clicking on previously viewed spread will jump you back to page 30 (and hitting again will jump back to page 400 – so you can switch between the two pages quickly).
You can find this option in the Document menu (Previously Viewed Page) for which you could optionally set a keyboard shortcut for as well as using the new button with the rest of the page navigation options in the bottom left of the UI as highlighted with arrow below:
On the iPad version you can find this option at the bottom of the view menu:

Andando reacted to Ash in Long press tool shortcuts
Apps: All
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
Holding onto any tool shortcut will now just put you in that tool temporarily until you release the shortcut key - at which point you will return to your previous tool. So for example when you are using the pen tool you could hold V to change to move tool to move your curve, and then on release be immediately back in pen tool. Another useful example would be when in Brush Tool, you could hold E to put you in Eraser and release to toggle back to Brush.

Andando reacted to rayhal in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
This is a stupid move by the developers. I own my PC, it is not a phone or a tablet and I want to control what goes on the PC and where it goes. I didn't spend time setting up partitions and drivers for fun. I have a particular drive for programs and that is where they go or they don't get installed - end of!
Version 2 is now uninstalled and I will never buy another Serif product until they fix this. The reason I went to Affinity suite in the first place was because Adobe ruined photoshop by their subscription/online nonsense.

Andando reacted to Zero Zero in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
Just bought the Suite and could not find the installation files so was unable to create shortcuts and worse unable to find a way to run the software! The only way I could launch the software was to double-click on the downloaded installation files which gave me the option to Launch from there. Total irritation and confusion.
However in the meantime after much faffing about through the Forum I discovered to my dismay that these are "App" files and do not install into the Program folder of my C drive and do not appear in my Programs & Features... How do I uninstall them?
I absolutely hate this unexplained change to installing/removing software and am not happy with the way this has been implemented, particularly as no advanced notification (as far as I could tell) was given.
I very much like what Serif is doing with Affinity and love the software but cannot stand this insane change to the standard installation procedure.
Please Serif fix this unwanted installation mess asap. and please retain some independence from the dumbing-down that Micro$oft continually applies to Windows in the so-called attempt to make it better.
I sincerely hope you listen.

Andando reacted to VectorVonDoom in Fish and Chip Shop
One that's fairly local to me, I got rid of some bits like the ugly modern lamp post. I was going to add more people but most said not to, so I didn't.

Andando reacted to VectorVonDoom in Thunderbird 1
Based on a studio model used for one the Thunderbird comics. I changed the back wall to be head on, I thought it would look neater being a little more simple. Yeah I know the wings wouldn't normally be extended but they are as it looks better, perhaps it's being spring cleaned or something!

Andando reacted to GarryP in 1950s-style ‘Creature Feature’ movie title still experiments
Here are some experiments, of varying quality, that I was playing around with at the weekend.
Apart from some (modified) background images everything was done in Designer and Photo.
They’re not what I would call ‘production ready’ but they’re okay as long as you don’t go looking for problems.
(Any resemblance to real movies or organisations is purely accidental.)

Andando reacted to Mithferion in Affinity Designer - Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP
Hi there!
Years ago, when Windows Vista was about to be launched, Microsoft also launched installers for Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11. They did some efforts to improve the UI of both programs.
I was still using Windows XP and I have to say that I loved the WMP 11 Itnerface back then (I used Winamp mostly, to be honest but still...), so I searched for some Screenshots and tried to replicate the UI using Designer. I think I got really close to the original and it's a joy for me doing this kind of works.
I'd like to know if anyone else liked this as well.
Just in case anyone is interested, for some reason, I attached the AFDESIGN File (V1).
I used Inter for the interface text and everything you see is Vector:
Best regards!

Andando reacted to Iajhy in Concept Exotic Car
Hello Affinity fellows!
This is a car design I've done a while ago, using Affinity Designer 1.x.
I'm pretty excited about version 2, lots of workarounds on the timelapse will be done easily on version 2.
Hope you guys like the result ☺️
Thank you Affinity ❤️
P.S. If you like this kind of work, please, consider follow my YouTube channel 🙏, soon I’ll upload more content ☺️

Andando got a reaction from AutomatonicGinfizz in Rock tribute portraits illustrations
Hello everyone. This is my first time sharing something on the forum. I've been using the affinity designer V2 since its launch and I'm very comfortable working with it. It has made my work process much easier, and right now I feel hooked on it. I just wanted to share some illustrations of this last month with you and show my work process in the video.
The serie is not finished yet but you can get and idea of how it goes...
Best regards

Andando reacted to Ash in Analytics
Apps: All
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
We have implemented some analytics within the apps which you can optionally choose to share with us. These are fully anonymous so we cannot identify anything down to an individual, but it just gives us some top-level data about our apps usage and stability on different hardware, languages and operating systems. This is incredibly useful to us, and ultimately helps in being able to produce better and more stable apps - so we would really appreciate it if you do choose to share analytics with us, but also of course understand if you choose not to. You will be prompted about this on the first run of one app in the suite on each platform, and you can also change your preference at any time in settings.

Andando reacted to Ash in Vector warp nodes now obey snapping
Apps: Affinity Designer
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
When editing a vector warp group, nodes will now snap based on your snapping preferences (if you have snapping turned on). As with nearly all operations in Affinity you can temporarily toggle snapping off while dragging a node by holding Alt.

Andando reacted to Ash in Guides improvements
Apps: All
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
A number of suggestions have been taken on with guides...
1. When you move a guide by dragging it on a document you will now see both the position of the guide relative to the ruler origin (as before) as well as the distance from the guide's previous position. So this means if, for example, you just want to move a guide 10mm you can achieve that easily without having to change the ruler origin.
2.When dragging a guide, holding Shift will now snap the guide to ruler marks. As this is based on ruler marks this also means the further you are zoomed the granularity of the Shift-constrained snap increases. Shift will snap based on the distance from origin, Shift-Alt will snap to the delta distance.
3. If you hold Alt or Command (Ctrl on windows) before dragging a guide that will now create a copy of the guide.
4. If you drag a new guide from rulers then guide visibility will automatically be toggled on (if it was set to off).
5. Alt-clicking on any guide will delete the guide.
6. Double clicking on an existing guide will now open the guide manager dialog (with the guide you had double clicked having focus in that dialog.
Please note: on iPad you will need to use an attached keyboard or use the command controller (if not visible you can toggle it on from the document menu) to access the modifiers. Also worth bearing in mind that Alt is the global modifier for ignore snapping, so if you create a copy of a guide using Alt while you still hold Alt snapping will be disabled.
Please let us know what you think or if you spot any problems with this new functionality.

Andando reacted to Ash in Paste inside picture frame
Apps: Publisher
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
With a picture frame selected, pasting inside will now insert your clipboard contents to be held within the picture frame rather than being clipped by it. Also if you have your insertion target set to inside and you paste normally with a picture frame selected the same will happen.

Andando reacted to Ash in Vector Flood Fill
Apps: Designer
Platforms: All
A new vector flood tool has been added to Affinity Designer. This is denoted by a paint bucket icon in the Tools Panel (on iPad you can find it nested with the gradient fill tool, on Windows it will currently need to be manually added via Customising the Tools Panel).
This tool allows you to automatically fill areas created by overlapping / intersecting shapes and open curves in your document. This tool requires you to make a selection first of the curves / shapes you want the tool to consider. You can then choose a colour from the colour or swatches panel, and tap within any enclosed area to create a new shape with that fill colour. While in the tool you can also drag swatches from the swatches panel onto any area.
There are two insertion modes to this tool you can select from the context toolbar:
Inside. This will attempt to create the new shapes / fills and place them inside existing shapes where possible. In-between. This will break fills and strokes apart in existing shapes, and insert the new fills in-between. The difference between the two is shown below.
While using the tool you can hold Cmd (macOS / iPad) or Ctrl (Windows) to make new selections (also combining with Shift to add / remove items from your selection). You can also click-drag the tool to quickly fill many areas all at once, a simple example is shown below with some text:
The tool works with any type of fill - solid colour, gradient or bitmap. The options in the context toolbar for min, max and stretch to fit are relevant only to gradient and bitmap fills, and refers to the method used to scale the fill to the new shape.
For bitmap fills you can select a bitmap fill swatch to use, alternatively you can create bitmap fills on the fly by dragging a texture file or asset directly into the active colour in the toolbar. Below is a video showing that in action with using assets to create bitmap fills:
Texture Fills.mov
For bitmap fills if the texture has any transparency then the fill will be added as an additional fill to the shape. This allows for overlay style textures to be easily added on top of an existing colour fill. We will look at a way to make this behaviour optional.
Finally it's also worth pointing out that when you are in the tool you can also drag swatch from your swatches panel directly into any area in your selection, to quickly add multiple different colours to areas without having to select them first.
We would love you to try this new tool out and let us know what you think or if you encounter any bugs or unexpected results.
