Thanks for a great update.
As a  quick test, I played with the appearance panel. Specifically, I tried drawing a  basic street map, as you might see in a leaflet for a local business. 
Using the new multiple strokes capability, it’s  possible to do to such work quickly Affinity Designer. 
First I drew the roads using a heavy dark stroke. Then in the appearance panel, I added a second stroke, in a lighter colour, above the first stroke. 
That produced the effect of parallel lines, with a fill in between.
The technique will work only if another new feature in 1.7 is used: when using the pen tool, the "Add new curves to selected object object" button on the context toolbar must be selected.  Then the lines blend together.
The second stage in this exercise was to duplicate the artboard containing all the elements. On the second the strokes have brush styles to give a more hand-drawn style.
This is a quick, very rough test, and I’m looking forward to exploring the latest Affinity advances in more depth!
 

Agreed. The shadows/highlights live filter is now worthless. Very crude and just compresses the dynamic range at the bottom.
As I recall the filter was recently rewritten for recent versions but that rewrite has now been dumped and the old tool in Develop moved in to Photo. It's just appalling. I'm either going to have to revert to 1.6.5 or go back to Photoshop.  

That's one of those questions again. Or: "I want to have arrow buttons for the undo function"? Can you please do everything so that it looks like "Word"?

In the interests of keeping a positive nature to the forum I suggest that it might be beneficial to the general happiness of the community if the post were removed so that only positive comments can be seen without having all this negativity. Having said that, this post is non-positive towards Seadog’s post and therefore it should also be removed for the same reason. Also, my last sentence is non-positive towards what has been said earlier and so… <repeat ad nauseam>
Note: This is not a serious suggestion. I only mention it to demonstrate a point, a point which I think should be reasonably clear.

You're right: Even with embedded images, there must be a way to go directly to a single image to edit it. Then, of course, the image editing only refers to the image in the layout.
My suggestion: There are two different buttons in the same place:
- For linked images it is called "Edit original".
- For embedded images it is called "Edit Image".

Indeed, the new S/H filter is a step backwards. Hm, unfortunately nobody didn't realize it before.

I wouldn't expect (or want) any templates in a pro level software ... if I need or want templates I'm going to create them myself or buy them somewhere. I fear that a set of flashy, colourful templates will keep the professional users away. Neither InDesign nor Quark come with any templates and that's the league Serif is playing in.
If someone needs templates, they can just buy them online (there's plenty available).
IF templates were supplied to any extent, I would expect them for separate download on the Serif website - either free paid - but not included in the app.

They are now, but the Windows versions of AD and APh only became available near the end of 2016.

Good catch. Seems to happen with me, too.
Program is not using any CPU that I can see when this happens.

I agree, that option (Detach Paragraphs from...) is not working as documented. The Help says that the text will retain its styling, but it doesn't.

That's what I'm talking about. So it doesn't work for you either.
 
I mean "autocorrect," not "spell-check as you type." It's about the correction table (Edit/Settings -> Autocorrect).
For me, the number "2019" is also marked as an error, which is wrong.
It looks like every number with more than two digits is marked as wrong.
So we discovered two errors altogether! Together we are strong

This happens when the source file is closed at the time. I made up a similar thread to this bug ->

It works with @Joachim_L's workaround. I suspect that this is not intended and that importing will also work with closed documents in the future.
Maybe one can unite these two threads.

The (German) Help states that the upper tab stops are right-justified. Because the lower tab stops can also be right-aligned, it didn't make sense to me.

Unfortunately, there is still no level-based transparency protection function. Some tools like the paint brush have this option ("Protect transparency"). For other tools like the Gradient Tool this option is missing. This option should be independent of the tools in the layer panel and should apply to an active layer.

With the help of the "text wrap" it is only possible to adjust a path manually. In InDesign, I often use the transparency information of the image (alpha channels) to let the text flow directly around an extracted object. This doesn't seem to be possible in APub.
Do the developers plan to implement this functionality for psd- and afphoto-files?

yup, there is a threading issue in 283 that most of the time stops spelling from getting new errors. This will be fixed in the next beta

You can also specify these values within a text style. Use the Text Styles panel to do this.
