The Alt key always does the opposite: Good idea @GarryP!
A clear case for "Feedback & Suggestions".

I have the following problem: when I add content via drag'n'drop or via the file menu function "Insert content", Affinity Photo needs 3 to 4 seconds to set up the UI when the programme is restarted.
I cannot reproduce this on Windows. Does it depend on the size or the extension?

Look in the File > Placement Rule menu to see which method is selected.

I need a shadow. But the associated object must not be visible. If I create the shadow and do not select a color, the shadow is not visible either. But I can't separate the shadow from the object. Is there a trick?
If you need the shadow completely, try using the blend options in the layers panel (Rasterise vector objects first):

I'm not sure if this is a bug, feature, or an overlooked quirk, but whenever I have my primary workspace undocked and I open a new document, the undocked workspace always resizes back to the smaller size when it was first undocked.
Apparently the window opens in a size that depends on the screen resolution and the arrangement of the interface elements. The detached window appears to have the same size as the docked window. This is the size it always aims for. When it is docked, it also always has the same size.
Reduce the panel areas on the left and right and you will see that the detached window becomes larger.

Looking at the the scope readout it seems that all colors are hitting 100 nits. Why?
Do you mean the luminance (cd/sqm)?

Used to be that if I cropped a photo to a proportion that left clear (checkerboard) space visible, that space saved as white when it was exported. Now it saves as black, which I don't want. A setting has been changed, it seems, and I don't know where to look for it. Can somebody help me, please?
What format is it? You may have changed the background colour in the advanced options.

Hi, for some reason the Preview isn't showing.
Yes, I noticed that a long time ago. I hadn't reported it yet because it's not a serious problem.
I would like to add the following:
- The problem apparently only affects the proprietary formats of the Affinity suite. JPEG, for example, is not affected.
- You don't have to close the whole programme to see the preview again. It is enough to close the open image.

Looking for tutorials on making half drop and half row repeat pattern tiles. I can find plenty of tutorials on making a basic square repeat, but I want to make more complex patterns using rectangles and offsets for half drop repeats and different variations of brick by row and column. Ideally, I would like to learn how to make patterns with offsets in both X and Y. Here is a test pattern using a method I know for making a half drop pattern, but I don't know how to crop a tile for this method.
I cannot help with a tutorial. But I once made a pattern based on symbols a long time ago. You can explore the principle using my example. There are no limits to the complexity.
On the small ArtBoard you can find the single pattern. That's where you work.

So I have a word inside a tag shape, and they are both parallel to each other. I want to be able to move the word left or right within the tag but not horizontally, I want it to stay in line with the tag shape. Is there a way to do this other than moving them both back to horizontal, adjusting and then rotating them both back?
You can press the Ctrl key (copy) when moving with the move tool and then delete the old layer.

@chet, welcome to the forums here

You can try the "Blemish Removal Tool" or "Inpainting Brush Tool". Check the help to see how these work and get started.

The Issue that I have is that both the .afphoto documents show up as very pixelated, like they haven't properly loaded in or something. If I do stuff like move them around a bit or something like that, they seem to be fully loaded in full resolution. However, if I quit Affinity Photo and re-open the document, they are back to showing up very low-res.
This sounds like a graphics card performance problem. Does anything change if you deactivate the hardware acceleration (File > Settings > Performance)?

Again I say this has to be a designer's choice and not a 'consensus' opinion. I would imagine that a serious book designer would know this and adjust his leading to suit. He just needs the basic tools and then use his skill.
Even a user who does not know the inherent connections still wants to design appealing text.

What I don't understand is why Affinity arbitrarily chooses 120% of font size for leading!
Quite simply: In the course of DTP history it has turned out that a line spacing of 120 percent of the font size is the best to read (fatigue-free reading of bulk text).

So is there any similar way to do what I'd like to do?
The upper picture is obviously brighter than the lower one. So the recolouring is also brighter. You can correct the image beforehand with the gradation curves, for example. You can also try the brightness slider in the Recolourise dialogue box if you have not already done so.

How to read the proper value or how to enter them so I've got the correct colour?
With Recolour you colour the image monochrome. The image consists of only one colour. The different colour tones are created according to the brightnesses in the image.

What is the difference between the 'Default Leading' figure of 12.51 shown in the Paragraph Tab and the 12pt on 12pt chosen in the Character Tab?
Can you please provide us with screenshots of the panels paragraph and characters? Then we can better understand what exactly you mean.

@Halex: You can change the click speed of your mouse. But you have to do this via the mouse driver at operating system level - not in Affinity Photo.
-
@thomaso: It's like Windows and probably intentional. I understood the OP to say that the icon in V2 is generally no longer coloured.

I hope I have understood you correctly. The black and white conversion seems to work as expected here (Windows). Can you provide us with some screenshots?

I am not quiet sure if this is intended or if there is something missing! As far as I can remember in Affinity Photo V1 (soooo long ago) the symbol of the Deselect option was shining red (lighter red) when there was the possibility to deselect something. In V2 this symbol isn't doing nothing!
It seems to work as expected for me (Windows). The only difference between V1
and V2
is the symbol. But both have the colour red. Are you perhaps on Mac?

This functionally can be added via a tool called Lazy Nezumi Pro. Unfortunately, that tool will not work with programs that run in a "sandbox," as do the V2 programs.
You have three options:
- You can wait for Serif to provide the MSI. It won't be long now.
- You can wait until Lazy Nezumi can handle sandboxes. This can take a long time.
- There are several threads in the forum where you can find solutions to the problem. Search the forum (Keyword: e.g. App Execution Alias). I don't have a link ready at the moment.
