I am going through the Affinity Designer Workbook regarding the Geometry Tools.  On page 91 it says that the boolean tools are non destructive and to add the 4 shapes together which I did as instructed.  It shows an arrow in the book next to the combined ice cream image and it says that you can select this expand back into the shapes they were previously.  It also shows that add tool to the right on it sublevel of the combined image.   

When I follow the instructions, it is not like this at all and my addition is not nondestructive.  Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with my program.
