m.vlad got a reaction from firstnose in I don't like the new UI design
Considering everyone else is speaking english, and this is primarily an english forum, it should be on them to translate their comment, even badly, to the rest of the audience. I'm saying that as a bilingual and non-english native.

Anyway, with that out of the way, after using the apps a bit, while I do appreciate the splash of colour, the old icons had a much much clearer silhouette compared to the new ones, where we have fancy gradients, strokes, and overall an uneven visual language, with some icons being overly complicated (the transparency tool icon in AFDesigner, shape builder tool, zoom tool, and artboard tool among others) and some being reduced to a stroke (all the shape icons, which went from clearly standing out filled shapes to outlines with a slightly darkening fill). While the old ones didn't pop as much, they were much more even. Also for the general flat design direction - while it feels more "modern", input contrast is severely impaired, with buttons and other inputs standing out quite a bit less than before, though this could easily be fixed with tweaking some UI colours (looking mainly at the top bar, the paragraph tab is a good example of how increasing the contrast can make things stand out without the need of the skeuomorphic outline).

It took me a while to see it too, it's not very visible at first.

I would have preferred to have the option here.

There were lovely check marks in a Layers panel, I can saw from a Moon which layer is active, which not
Now they are replaced with awful dark grey and not-so-dark grey dots on which I waste time clicking to detect what is active what not active.
(can't give sample right now as Win7 support is dropped off)

    Horrible UI

Everything in the new UI is less defined and I think it's a step back from version 1. They haven't ruined it or anything it just looks less sharp and crisp.
Navigating and clicking just feels less satisfying without the clear visual feedback.

I like the new icons because they are more vibrant and colorful. But they still are in the new flat design way that f* up the entire UI and I understand your point of view.
v1 made me think I was using a robust app :
While v2 make me feel I'm using a badly designed app with no Human Interface in mind. I don't know, that's the flat design that gives me the creeps...

    Exactly !
The Drop down menu is annoying. Clicking an icon was faster! Everything looks like a badly done app wish a fishy framework and takes more screen space : v1 : v2: Scrolling and resizing the window to get to the other settings? That's a UI/UX design that comes from Web apps, Chrome... yuck yuck yuck. v1: v2:

RTL is not simply mirrored LTR.

There is no Arabic UI, so I do understand why Affinity doesn't support RTL yet.
But I don't understand why Affinity doesn't support Chinese/Japanese properly even though it has UI in those languages.
How can Affinity claims itself as a "pro" design app without proper text handling?
    That's not pro.
Without proper text handling, it's almost useless especially in publishing/printing industry.

Maybe if the computing such small elements is too difficult to program, Serif should use the scale cheat with expanding strokes if height or width is smaller than xy pixel. How much longer will this take? 1 ms? 2 ms? Who would notice that?

It already is. This suggestion is to add it to the new screen so the welcome screen stays relevant after the first month of usage and isn't just disabled outright (plus if it's disabled you have to go to the File tab and then under recents to open the recent files, and there's no thumbnails. Sounds like this would be a major improvement)

To be honest (gotta love that phrase), IDML export is the best of alternatives. There are reasons to be able to move publications from one application to another. And like it or not, IDML is the best means currently available in the sense of broadest support.
Collaboration using IDML as the vehicle to do so is not a good idea no matter how good of an implementation. But as a means to migrate existing publications for use in a different application due to need is often enough necessary for my clients.

To be honest, even a slightly broken export feature would be better than none at all. Forcing people to move their entire production to a specific software is not ideal, especially when your app is new in the industry. You cannot expect people to just drop open industry standards in favor of closed source formats from a younger app, especially when there's no reason to have it locked to that format in the first place.

Sometimes I ungroup elements that had constraints or just simply wish to remove those constraints changes. When I want to do it I have to click and unclick all the constraints that I know I have on the selected layers. A "Reset Constraints" button would make that a much easier endeavour.

Yeah, you can. When you get right down to the bare basics, the only real differences between all these various distros is when they update their libraries. Appimages, flatpaks, and snaps solve this problem by including all the libraries with it, making this a non-issue.
...as has been stated many a time before in this very thread.
But what about desktop environments? Gnome, KDE, XFCE, Cinnamon, etc. etc. etc.? Doesn't matter. They're all cross compatible with each other. Worst case scenario is that you get an app that doesn't fit in with the style of the rest of your desktop. But hell, Windows users have been facing this problem for years and years now, and it hasn't been a dealbreaker. It's the same on Linux.
But what about package managers, distro specific installers, and all that good stuff? Yeah, back in the day, it was something of a pain when you had an .rpm file, but you were on a Debian based distro, and you had to use something like Alien to convert the installers. It's hardly an issue anymore though. Why? Because you have appimages, flatpaks, and snaps now. Package managers these days are more about how your distro updates itself, and where you get your FOSS software.
It's just not as big of a deal as you think it is anymore. If the Affinity suite were to come to Linux, all Serif would have to do is target a distro to serve as a base to support, and they're done.

Their points were refuted again and again, you can have a civil discussion without having to agree on something. If they don't provide anything productive to the conversation and only serve to annoy people for having different opinions, then they can speak in their echo chamber. Bringing up different viewpoints and opinions is all good if it is in good faith. People have previously brought up that they don't want affinity to divert resources to support a different OS when they could instead work faster on updates and features for the current OS lineup. That is a valid reason, it goes against the topic in a way, but it is a valid opinion, and we have in turn reacted with suggesting looking into the compatibility issues with WINE instead of a full blown port. This is how a mature conversation goes, not ad hominem attacks and repeating one's point until the other side is too bored to repeat so you decide you've "won".

Hey all.  Expressing anti-Linux sentiment in a thread talking about the desire for Linux versions is the epitome of internet trolling.  Don't give the trolls the attention they want.  Best way to deal with internet trolls: IGNORE them.  Do not engage.   They're not adding anything valuable to this conversation.  Lets move on, please.
Also, pro tip:  click on your profile name at the top right to open a pulldown menu, then click "ignored users" and enter the username of someone that you don't want to see anymore.  As per attached image:

It has certainly been mainstream enough to not die.all of the other systems died and I doubt windows or mac would now look at extinct OSes to copy from rather than a system that sure is in the minority but well and alive

It's a shame we can't just pin things in this thread in a way, because that's what's been said for pages now, yet people still ask for solutions and options and release channels.

I mentioned Steam because it's a pre-existing solution that's already embedded into the linux scene.
