dominik got a reaction from JET_Affinity in Select and snap
Hi @JET_Affinity,
in @gyalogosdesign's defense I want to point you to the post where the user actually started a new thread:
That was right before posting about it in this thread here. Maybe you missed that one 🙂
In other words, the request is already on it's way.
Cheers,

dominik reacted to JET_Affinity in Hairline Stroke Width
It's also another "low hanging fruit" opportunity to surpass Illustrator. Throughout the FreeHand vs Illustrator competitive years, FreeHand users knew what a huge advantage it was to work with hairline strokes in the normal full-color interface. The only way to get hairline editing behavior in Illustrator is to put it in its lame Outline Mode.

Yes, this is irritating and should be improved.

That's a good point. In some other input boxes this works already. It would be worth to post this as a seperate feature request.

Hi @G13RL and hello @gyalogosdesign,
this is a very good tip. Especially since you can move the Transform Origin point to the inner border of the donut and it will snap there at one of the horizontal or vertical axises. If you then move the entire donut the Transform Origin snaps to the grid. Thus you accomplish what you've been looking for.

Hi dominik, thank you for your welcoming and the link, will look into it.
And totally understand your point and think you might be right, but I didn't have any bad intentions.
I did search in the forums, and that's why I didn't create a new thread myself, and I did said that so far it's been a great experience, especially with the Develop Persona, and didn't mean to be rude or ungrateful by any means, since I explained my only issues in a constructive way. And yes, I'm gonna buy the three softwares, didn't even know it was with a 50% discount at the moment, I just searched for Adobe alternatives yesterday and tried Affinity. To be honest, I'm even like the Develop Persona more, simpler approach, if I compare it to Lightroom.
And the link you just sent us will be useful thanks, but what I miss the most, and again, is the possibility to go back and fort between Personas and keep the settings there (and I'm not sure if we aren't already able to do that and I didn't find out yet how!).
The library, I could live without it, even if I had to just use the Windows default explorer, no big deal.

First off I want both of you to welcome at the forum.
But, with all due respect, I have to say I am a little disappointed by your contributions. Serif has just opened the whole suite of three programms for free use (trial) for three months. They are opening you and anyone else to an enormous amount of features to explore and to learn. And the first thing you do is to make the effort to create an account at the forum and to complain about what is missing. You may want to look around in the forum and try to find out that there are some ways to use an external digital asset management tool (DAM) to work together with Affinity.
You may start in this thread below - currently 10 pages long - where you can vote (if you want) and also find that there is a big demand for such a functionality. It is inevitable that Serif has taken note of this. So the reason that is not here yet is a matter of capacity and not an unintended ommision.
I am looking forward to reading from you some more contributing posts. This will help everyone.
Cheers,
d.

Hi pyxelles
You're right, symbols are a kind of a workaround.
But i see also some advantages.
As a result you have a vector graphic and this pattern
is resolution independent and you can further edit it
with vector graphic tools and easily convert it
into a bitmap.
you can mix vector graphics and bitmap graphics
(Photos) in symbols, also inside the pattern
You can make most pattern symmetries you can imagine
even pattern symmetries that a pattern maker would not have
You can also use bitmaps as symbols and draw on them,
you can mix this with the allready build in symmetry function
in Affinity Designers pixel persona.
To name a few
I find symbols offer quite a lot even if it's more elaborate.
greetings

dominik got a reaction from MikeA in Publisher for Windows — Edit Text Style dialog improvements
I just tried this and it works as expected. I did:
Assign all paragraphs a newly created paragraph style that only changes the font. Assign a couple of words in the middle of a paragraph a new character style that changes the colour and sets a different font family > font colour and font family look different than the whole text. Go back in the character style (Edit character style) and set font to 'No change' > the font immediately looks the same as the whole text but the colour is different (because I did not change that). What might be different with your setup?

dominik got a reaction from mackleys in Pattern repeat for Textile designers
There are other tutorials that export the the pattern as an image file and then apply this as an image fill. If you are interested I can look that up.
Of course this is not as flexible and speedy as a full flegded pattern fill tool (or whatever it may be called). But it's not bad, either.
There's also a neat tutorial on how to apply such a pattern to a real photo and the result looks pretty good:

Agreed, JohaWeber. Besides, if precision wasnt needed, there would be no need to 'snap' to anything and we could just eyeball it all Psenda suggests. Luckilly I have found a work around - it is possible to snap to tangents using regular (manual) drawing techniques. It's a few extra steps, but at lest it can be done. For those of you interested, check out this video I found - I can mimic the technique in Affinity Designer using the snap to centre and intersections, and drawing a circle using the right mouse button to define the diameter. For now at least, I can work around this.

I do feel that Affinity designer should be introducting more advanced snapping and drawing functionality to set itself apart from Illustrator and prove its a more professional tool, hence why I posted this in the feature requests part of the forum.

Hello ToreB,
are you aware that there is a setting in the preferences that seems to do exactly what you are asking for (see attached screenshot)? But maybe I am misunderstanding your request

dominik reacted to PaoloT in Footnotes/Endnotes
I hope they will get the opportunity not to implement it as in InDesign or any wordprocessor. Notes in a creative publication are not always at the foot. They are sometimes in the margin, in line with the reference.
I hope Affinity can do something new in this area, starting from the analysis of the best art books.
Paolo
EDIT: Sorry, I saw only now the post above, saying the same things, but better.

dominik reacted to Ash in We want to help
Hi All,
Unfortunately, we are hearing many stories from the creative community about how they are being severely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we can’t solve a lot of these problems, but we do want to try to offer as much support as possible.
That’s why we’re announcing three measures that we've just put in place. They are:
A new 90-day free trial of the Mac and Windows versions of the whole Affinity suite A 50% discount for those who would rather buy and keep the apps on Mac, Windows and iPad A pledge to engage more than 100 freelance creatives for work, spending the equivalent of our annual commissioning budget in the next three months (more details of this will be announced next week). The introduction of the 90-day free trial and deeply discounted pricing is done in the hope that this will make life a little easier for people who rely on creative software to make a living, but may be stuck at home without their usual tools, or for students who might not have access to their Affinity apps on their personal devices. In addition, by increasing our spend on commissioning work from freelancers we can also put some extra money into a part of the industry which will be particularly affected.
We plan to make the free trial and additional discount available until 20 April, but of course we will continue to review the situation as time goes on.
We have put posts on Facebook and Twitter about what we are doing if it's something you would like to share.
We're now all working from home
In terms of the team here, we have all vacated our Nottingham offices and are now working from home. Naturally this is causing us some disruption, but we continue to type code and expect to carry on making good progress with our development efforts.
Support is a bit trickier though. Firstly, we can’t accept inbound telephone calls right now, and there are also going to be challenges for our staff to work their normal full-time hours – especially with imminent school closures in the UK. We’re obviously going to do our very best but hope you will understand if we are not as fast to respond to email as usual.
Of course, if a question you have is something which could be answered by our community, then we’d also greatly appreciate if you put that here on the forum rather than contact us directly. It would definitely help us out a lot.
Frankly it’s hard to know what to say or do in this unprecedented situation. But more than anything else, we want to use this opportunity to wish good health to you and your loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
All the very best,
Ash
