Dominic, I apologize. It just struck me that I was too harsh earlier, even before I read your post. You’re completely right to correct me here and I thank you for that. I rewrote my lines above. It is okay to be somewhat emotional here, but it’s of no use when you’re not helpful at the same time.

If something doesn't work how you would like it to be, it is not broken. It's just not the way how you would like to have it.
I do not oppose some of the mentioned missing features in the swatches panel. But I find it important (in regard to other forumsters who are reading this) not to give the impression something is broken that is not.
Cheers,
d.

In the font drop down list there is a heart shape at the right side of each font entry. Click this to make the font a favourite.
At the top of the font drop down list there is a button to only display favourite fonts.
You also can set defaults for the tools. I think this was explained in other threads already. It works for the text frame tool, too

dominik reacted to mrdzyn in Golden Ratio Template
I'm sharing this template for golden ratio, original tutorial I followed was for Inkscape which I was previously using before falling in love with Affinity Designer. Original work is from Nick Saporito on youtube. Basically you use the set of "Golden Circles" to create an illustration by intersecting the different sizes of circles. Hope you guys enjoy using it for your own designs!

I do admit that this is a little off topic to the OP's request 😉

I understand. Well, there is already a corner tool with variations of corners. This is perhaps the place where the squircle corners can find their future home in ADe

dominik got a reaction from emmrecs01 in File > Duplicate option
Hi @John Rostron,
I could imagine someone wants to create a couple of variations of a certain design. Of course there are snapshots or multiple artboards to use them in the same way.
I also do this to keep a history of development steps in case I need to go back and look at what I did 😉
In that case I just save the file under with a new name, e.g. with a counter at the end of the name. That makes it easy to keep versions seperate.
Cheers,

dominik got a reaction from Benege in Master pages
Hello @Chaumurky and welcome to the forum.
This thread is relatively old. Own template files were introduced recently. This also works for master pages.
You would create a file with a couple of master pages you need. The document itself can be empty but it has to consist of at least one page. Then you go to 'File > Export as Template...' and save it to a directory of your choice.
In the 'File > New' dialog there is a button at the left side that reads 'Templates'. There you once add the folder where your template files are stored. If you then open the before created file with only the master pages in it you have these basically as a starting point.
I hope this helps 🙂

dominik got a reaction from JET_Affinity in File > Duplicate option
As soon as you save the file under a new filename you have a duplicate. It's called 'Save as...'. There is no need of such a function. In contrary: if you duplicate the file you have to save it afterwards under a new filename. This would be even one step more.

dominik reacted to walt.farrell in Cross reference to heading page numbers?
Yes, you can do that, using a couple of different methods.
The simplest, probably, is with hyperlinks and anchors, but this does not let you refer to "page xxx". You would need to provide some text, such as "see the section on gizmos" and "the section on gizmos" would be a link to the section of interest.
For that approach:
At the Heading, put the text cursor on the heading and then Text > Interactive > Insert Anchor... and give it a name., At the reference point, where you have type the reference ("see the section on ...", select the reference text, and Text > Interactive > Insert Hyperlink.... Chose Anchor as the type of Hyperlink, pick the anchor you want, and pick a style. If you need "see page xxx" it's a bit harder:
Type "see page ". Outside that text frame, draw another small text frame, just big enough for the page number. Into that text frame, Text > Insert > Fields > Next Frame Page Number. Create another small text frame. This one will remain empty. Click the linking arrow on the lower right of the first small frame, then click on the second small frame. Now they're linked. Drag the first small text frame so it's positioned after "see page ", and then Pin it inline. Drag the second small text frame to your heading, and pin it to the heading. Here's an example of that second technique. There's a link from page 1 into the middle of page 4. I probably have a clearer example but I'm not finding it right now.

I have no idea when this may happen.
What I have found (on Windows) is an 'api-ms-win-core-rtlsupport-l1-1-0.dll' file in the program's directory.
I assume Serif won't comment on that 🙂

dominik got a reaction from GDPR-415734 in So what is the long term roadmap?
Hi @Jowday,
I cannot help but asking where you have been the 'last years'? We have seen the release of iPad versions of Designer and the introduction of Publisher with quite some new additions after it's initial release. This is not something I would call 'slow pace'.
I know that you are a regular at the forum. That makes me wonder why you come to think development of the whole Affinity suite happens at a slow pace? I am not familiar about Adobe's progress nowadays but during the time I was using CS even this suite did not develop much faster (but this may be my subjective point of view I do not want to insist on).
Cheers,

dominik reacted to TomAng in LOVE IT!
Just want to start by congratulating Serif on Publisher. I was brought up on Quark XPress, then used InDesign from its launch in 1994. Publisher has learnt from all their mistakes, uses hardware acceleration well and I LOVE IT! Have to get used to differences in language (positioning instead of baseline shift) but that's fine. I'm so happy to be able to dump Adobe's horrible subscription model and actually use something that's easier and more logical. So far, I've only produced 48-page booklets, and I don't know how it will handle big books. But I've always worked on 400 page books as spreads or small folios anyway.
Cheers to the developers!

dominik reacted to garrettm30 in Ability to duplicate a TOC
I've had a personal breakthrough discovery, and perhaps this clarification will be helpful to others. I assumed the "TOC Style" in the TOC Studio referred the style set of text styles for each TOC, and that much is true. But what I have discovered is that it actually saves all the TOC configurations below the TOC Style dropdown, including which text styles are included, whether there are page numbers, and separator characters. Now that I understand this, my request as per the title of this thread is essentially available now without using copy/paste.
I simply create one TOC, give it a name and configure it to my heart's content, and then I can create other TOCs and assign them the same TOC style, and they are configured exactly the same. The only things that are not coordinated are the settings above the TOC Style dropdown in the studio. This is great news, and even better than just copy and paste, because if you change the setup of a TOC, all other TOCs with the same TOC style will be matched.
My recommendations in the post above still stand, but I can really work with this. I would also welcome some way to make it more clear what TOC Style really refers to, but I don't have an idea on that at the present.

dominik reacted to garrettm30 in Ability to duplicate a TOC
I think I am starting to get a handle on what is happening, leading me to these two concrete recommendations to improve the existing functionality:
Avoid duplicate names upon copy. I now consider this to be a bug. Publisher is smart enough to actually create two separate TOCs upon copy, but the same name appears to cause problems related to the name conflict. When there are two TOCs of the same name, any change made to a TOC from the TOC Studio will be applied to the first TOC with that name, no matter which of the two was selected. For example, if I want to rename one of them, it will always be the first that gets renamed no matter which was checked in the "TOC:" dropdown near the top of the studio. Jump to currently selected TOC in the TOC dropdown when a part or all of a TOC is selected in the text. This is a UX refinement that will cut down on confusion, as clearly I was confused on this point in my video. The current behavior will always have the first TOC checked no matter what TOC was selected in the body text. When no TOC is selected in the text, there is no TOC selected in the studio dropdown. Then when a TOC is selected in the text the dropdown is no longer empty, suggesting to the user that the current TOC has been preselected, when in fact it is just the first in the list. These two refinements are probably pretty easy to make. As #1 seems to be a genuine bug, a moderator may choose to move this thread to the Publisher Bugs (Mac) forum.
Now with the understanding of what is happening, I think I can work around it to achieve what I need to. I will report back if there are further observations or if I need to make corrections to what I have said.
Thanks @dominik for taking part in trying to work this out.

Hello @garrettm30,
would it perhaps help if you set the scope of the TOC to 'Section' instead of 'Document'? And before that set up sections for each chapter.

Yeah, I saw it after posting above.
But I wasn't attacking gyalogosdesign, and no offense was intended.
My comment was as much for the general readers. As you know, posting multiple different requests as a personal wish list in a single thread is bad practice, but unfortunately a very common one in forums like this.
