    Hi @NoSi,
I assume you mean 'largely useless to me'. I myself find AD very usefull and it replaced for most of my work ID and Xara Designer Pro. I do admit that there are some features still missing that have been discussed here over and over. In case I need these I do have workarounds.

    Hi @michelle3000,
welcome to the forum. To add to the previous posts that actually answer your question I want point you to a rather long discussion on this topic:

Do not get discouraged about this. It is most likely that this feature will be implemented at some time. It is just not clear when.

dominik got a reaction from Graphite Addict in Back with the Mesh Warp / Distort Tool... Some considerations
    Hi @matt,
    I did this in Photo.
On top of the image create your text and a rectangle. Drag the text underneath the rectangle so that is being clipped by the rectangle. Choose 'Layer > New Live Filter Layer > Distort > Perspective'. This presents you the rectangle with four handles on each corner of the rectangle that you then can drag and adjust to the 'plane' in your image below. Note: If you click in the layers panel on the rectangle or the text they get highlighted at their original size, which is different from the perspective display. I find it easier to select these two by clicking in the layers panel than to try to click in the drawing.
By selecting the text tool you can edit the text.
By switching to AD you can continue editing the entire content of the file, including the live perspective filter 🙂

I'm sorry but it looks like your all complaining that AD is missing CAD functionality. It's like complaining how your fridge lacks air-conditioning functionality.
"It makes stuff cold so why don't they just add the blower in there to get the cold air out?! Unbelievable! It's such a quick win!"...
I can understand how it could be convenient but it's not a CAD tool. Don't expect it to be what it's not.

I'm wondering if some new users understand the amount of work needed to get an app with such features in such a small time, forgeting that they work on 5 apps with a small team, and that everyone having a special need thinks it's basic and can be done in the next week.

As a work around, pinning text frames, external frames and lists can do the trick. Just hope the client won't make a lot of changes in them
Style list for calling the notes, and pin parameters:

Style list for  the footnotes :

    Example:

Only trick part: (adding a note between already positioned notes)  when adding a new text frame for adding a note's call (number), it will take the last number on the page +1 (here, last pinned note is 4, so the next frame I create is 5).
So you need to move the small text frames (exchange position for 4 and 5 here). Of course, you'll have to adapt the footnotes frame too, but it's easier to add the 5th note since you just need to add a new paragraph.

    Hi @Paul Mc,
it is an interesting task and I think you can achieve this in AD. Just not on export but on how you set up your file.
Key is to use symbols and multiple artboards.
First you create artboards for each label design and make it a symbol. Then you create an artboard for each variation of the label designs and place the not changing package and backdrop in these. Finally you place the symbols of each label design on top of every artboard. Result:
You can create from each artboard a slice to export (even to different file formats). If you modify any of the label designs (as symbols) they get propagated to above artboards ... and slices ... and exported files. I just hope you can follow these instructions. Otherwise please ask.

I'm doing a lot of isometric drawings for a recent project. As a result I came across Affinity Designer and I've found it far superior to Illustrator CS6 (Never moved to CC).
Unfortunately, I needed the offset tool feature for a diagram. After checking out Help, Youtube, and Affinity Forum I've discovered it's not available.
The stroke method produces some odd results and is too time consuming.
    So here's my workaround.
Drop my shape into Illustrator, add the offset, copy and paste back into AfD and Fit to plane.
Then I can copy and paste, or transform the shape as much as I want.
Not ideal, but until AfD gets an offset tool it's faster than anything I've seen on YT!!

Sorry, I did not mean to be not constructive, but perhaps I was 😯   I was more thinking about the chance that you have a possibility to accomplish your project with PP.
I do not deny the need for foot- or endnotes. It's just that they cannot include all features in the initial release and they had to make their mind up what is a good starting point and what is best added over time. I do not have the knowledge if this feature is basic to implement. From what I read about programming I do suspect many things thal look basic are not at all. Especially if something has to be implemented future proof.
Apart from that it is Serif's policy not (or only seldom) to comment in this section of the forum about features to come. As said in other places a sure indication that they are about to release a new feature soon is the public beta. And so far foot- and endnotes are not part of it.

It is a restriction to neebies to protect the forum from spammers. No options, limited posts, one message per day is a result of this.
BUT… – It was a perfect check to proof the support of Affinity. And what I have to say: They lifted my status which made it possible to write this answer (now…).
One big hand to the support you gave me another reason to  my list of reasons to consider buying ( I am really close…).

    Hello @NoSi,
please check if pasting back and forth really works as you would expect. From my observation (and as others have mentioned) if you paste back text with styles they are not 'reused' but they are added as additional styles. You can check if this is the case by looking at styles with the exactly the same name but with added numbers (e.g. Body, Body 1, Body 2, etc.).
This is a current shortcoming of APub and this may be one of the reasons why some people are aksing for an internal text editor.
    Cheers,

dominik got a reaction from andre_floyd in Book publishing
    Hello @andre_floyd,
you won't get any information about when this feature will be included (or even if). This is not the current policy of Serif. You can check the list of features of the current beta version. This is the only place where you find information on what is going to be included in the next release.
You find this list at the top of this forum: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/58-publisher-beta-on-windows/
But it is a little tricky because a new feature may be listed in one beta version as new but maybe in the following not any more. But usually new features also are discussed in the above linked forum and something like a book feature would pop up there with several topics 😉

dominik got a reaction from countbasil in Ability to set line width as a variable
    Hello @Raven_H,
welcome to the forum. This is an interesting idea and at least I haven't seen this before. But the forum is huge and no one can know it all 🙂
In all Affinity apps you can type in mathematical calculations in fields. And you can refer to certain values with a shortcut.
E.g. if you select a single object like a circle you can type in the transform panel into it's width field 'h*2' and hit enter. This will set the object's width to double the size of it's height. E.g. if you select a single line and type into it's width field '*3' the line width becomes three times as wide. Of course this also works with '50%'. You can select multiple objects and set 'Transform Objects Seperately' (in the context tool bar) and do the same to width, height, line width, rotation and shear. There is a whole article in the online help file about expressions for input fields:
    https://affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html#
Once you get the hang of it this might be in the direction of your suggestion.
    Cheers,
