why can't Serif do the same?!

    Hi @Musaed,

I think it is not about what Serif can do but more about what Serif can do first.

Please believe me, I've read throuth the forum over a long time, if they could implement every important feature right away they would do it. But it just isn't possible. Serif has stated several times that R-to-L support is coming at some time but is completely open when this will be (and my guess is it will take longer than shorter).

I feel with you that this must be dissapointing and I understand that there is no easy work around (I like to find work arounds). From my small (to non existant) understanding of programming I assume R-to-L support must be a major effort to implement. If not it would be available already.

    All the best :)

it's not just a bit word-files, that i like to include in APu (copy&paste by small texts may be ok). but how about long texts, 200, 400 pages  (literature, scientific work with hundreds of foot or endnotes, with complex hierarchy in titling)? it would be really nice to have an automatic import instead of clicking and binding the text boxes again and again.

    Hi @fritz franz vogel,

as mentioned before I was able to copy and paste almost 400 pages of text from a LibreOffice document with formatting and paragraph styles (for a start in APub). The original document included foot and endnotes but for obvious reasons they were not included because APub does not support these at the moment.

I'm not saying this is the perfect solution but for now it is a good start :)

At the moment the only practical way round this is to use a seperate master page without said page number and graphic and apply that master to the page in question. Seems a bit long winded and uneccessary.

You can use multiple Master Pages (per Page) and put elements that occasionally need to be ‚turned‘ off on separate Master Pages. This worked for me so far.

I live in Switzerland, work with Apple products, all of which are configured to interact with me in English.  However, because I have to write in other languages, I use one of the standard Swiss keyboards, the one for Swiss German.  The "[“ and “]“ are created by holding the alt key and pressing either "5" or "6".  Consequently, cmd + [ is perceived as cmd + alt + 5, and provokes a protest beep from Affinity Photo instead of a decrease in brush size.  I am not sure how many users interact with Affinity products in their native language instead of English, but I suspect that their command of English is more than sufficient to understand and appreciate James Ritson's excellent video tutorials and the Affinity Photo Workbook, both of which make liberal use of keyboard shortcuts.  So those are powerful arguments for standardizing on the keyboard shortcuts they use.

    Hi @Richard Liu,

you can use ALT+Left Mouse Button plus Right Click to increase and decrease the size of the brush size (and hardness as well). In the beginning it took me a while to get used to it but I find it more convenient than to use the keyboard.

I know to each his own, but just in case you didn't know that :)

That's why I suggested that we have the ability to create our own list of custom presets. Then everyone's "standard" would be taken care of.

I agree, this would be a good solution in the long run.

It is possible to create, save and reuse any kind of custom template already. Simply create a new document with all the preferred settings. Save it in a special folder maybe called 'My Templates' with a name that suites your needs.

To start a new project from these templates, open it from the 'My Templates' folder, save it with a new name (to a new project folder) and you are ready to go.

The only difference (or call it drawback) is that it is not part of the dropdown list in the 'New Document' dialog box. Instead you have to start with the 'File > Open' command ;)

I would like to request a POLYGON MARQUEE selection tool.  Perhaps, there is already a way to do this, however,  there are many times when I really need such a tool and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

    Thank you.

    Hello @ivanthomson,

you posted in the Affinity Designer section. Do you really request a Polygon Marquee Tool as a vector tool?

If not, you can switch to AD's Pixel Persona. There is a Lasso Tool that has three options (on the toolbar a the top): 'Freehand', 'Polygonal' and 'Magnetic'. Is that what you are looking for?

    Hi,

I was very excited when I heard Affinity Designer was in the works as I thought it would be the perfect system for me. However, the lack of DXF export makes it useless for my purposes. I have an art production company and 90% or our work is setting up 2D cut files for laser cutting and cnc milling.

I am stuck with AI even though I loathe it and even have a legacy copy of DrawPlus X8 which I regenerate pretty much every dxf file I produce BECAUSE THEY ARE THE MOST RELIABLE CROSS-PROGRAM-FRIENDLY DXFS I HAVE EVER USED.

Soooooo frustrating I can't take combine the streamlined workflow of Affinity AND output files I can actually use for something other than print.

If you share my pain please pitch in! I know so many people who won't make the change to AD for that one reason.

Any feedback from Serif on this??

Hi @rosenthaller and wellcome to the forum,

you can also join a long thread on this topic and give it your vote. See here.

    Cheers :)

    Hey guys,

I'd like to know if there are any plans to develop an Affinity software which would compete with Adobe's Lightroom from a side of batch photo editing. I'd love to go "full affinity" in the future, but as I'm getting more into photography I find it extremely hard to edit like 200+ photos in Affinity Photo.

Affinity, please, consider an addition to your already amazing collection of software. <3

    Hi @tomaspetrus,

    welcome to the forum.

There is something in development that is considered a Digital Asset Management (= DAM). It is completely unclear when this will be available.

You can read through a longer thread here. It includes a post by one of the Affinity developers who clearly confirms that something like this is in the making :)

    Hi,

A lot of times I have multiple ideas on how I could format some object. Like different color, position, shape or font or anything else. So I need to see which one looks the best and need to decide which way to go.

My workflow for that is making different versions of that object and toggling the visibility setting of the layer/group/object. But this is very awkward, because I need go to the layers panel, hide the current object, show the next object and than again, hide the current, show the next and so on. And loop through that process multiple times until I have decided.

My idea for a feature for Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo would benefit from that as well, would be some sort of shortcut key that would loop through every selected object in layers panel and only sets one of them visible and hides the others. Than pressing the shortcut again, would set the next visible and hides the previous one and so on. This could be implemented easily and I think a lot of people would benefit from that.

    Greetings, Christoph

    Hello Christoph,

    welcome to the forum.

One way to do this would be to use snapshots of your variations. You'd have to use the mouse to switch between them but they switch instantly and for me this works well in a situation as you describe.

I do not use Illustrator, so I can't comment on importing multi artboard Illustrator files, or objects outside Illustrator artboards not being imported/shown.

Here are two very basic Illustrator files you can try yourself.

For comparison I include a screenshot of what the file looks like in Illustrator itself:

You'll see, objects outside the artboards are not part of the import.

Would love to see ability to import colour palettes.

Would it be possible to create a document in the desktop version that includes all colour you want to have in your palette? Then do in the Swatches Panel 'Create Palette from Document > As Document Palette'.

Then open this document on the iPad. It should bring its palette with it.

I haven't tried this but it could be some workaround with not too big palettes :)

You cannot define the angle on a triangle

I'll have to find some sort of creative workaround

    Hello @Ulysses

what you can do is the following:

    1. With the Pen Tool draw a horizontal line by holding down the SHIFT key.
    2. Duplicate the line by hitting CTRL+J
    3. Switch to the Move Tool (V) and make sure 'Show Rotation Centre' is active. You'll see a little cross hair in the middle of the line.
    4. Move the Rotation Centre to the left end of the line. It should snap to the end node (otherwise turn snapping on).
    5. Now you can type in a rotation angle of your choice in the Transform Panel. You now have some sort of guides to draw your triangle.
    6. Switch to the Pen Tool and start drawing a triangle along the lines you just created. Snapping will help you to exactly hit the corner points and the angle is exactly what you initially typed in when rotating.

If you want to apply this to a second angle you have to be creative along the above example.

This all is not automatic but should give you a triangle according to your need :)

But they are too "skinny", and the "meat" isn't growing very fast on the bones.

    Hello @Norway4T,

with all respect, I completely disagree. The output of the company is impressive, with public beta versions every couple of months and with two iPad versions of the major applications within less than two years (I think) after the Windows desktop version of Affinity Designer was released.

The company is very clear about the fact that they are setting priorities according to their own standards. If the blend function hasn't been published yet this only means this particular function was not prioritised enough to make it into a release. But it does not mean that the company is slow.

    Best regards,

I often have to create a lot of files in various formats for my customers.
What would be a really good feature would be a "Bulk Export" Dialog, were I can choose:

    • the formats I want to save with checkboxes
    • The location to save
    • A name for the files

I think the best way to do this regarding settings would be to take the last export settings from the regular export dialog.

    Hi @xresch,

have you looked at the Export Persona? I think it does exactly what you are asking for. The only 'drawback' could be that you can batch save to only one path but there you can save to different subfolders.

See this tutorial video for more details:

  15. I still use Bridge because I find it offers a good balance between all the features I need to go through my collection and not too much sophisticated features that other DAM's are offering and that I (currently) don't need.

Yes, but the only thing that it is lacking is a configurable 'Open with...' command that let's me include Affinity. Or do I miss something?

    Nobody ever needed something similar?

According to my use of the renaming function in my file manager (outside of Affinity) I need this all the time. I can think of many situations this would come in handy in AD, too. Still, I think this is a rather exotic feature in comparison to many other 'much needed' features that are already on the roadmap.

So, I do support this feature request but I do have not high expectations to see this in the near future.
