Import an eps and the bounding box is blank, nothing shows on screen.

I think that was reported before. Try to double click on the placed EPS, this should open it in a different tab. Look if you see the content somewhere far outside (by zooming out considerably). Move it to the middle and close the tab. Does this bring its content into view?

PS: I would share the APub document but it has grown to a size of several megabytes and is too big to upload. File size is a different story...

On a second thought I exported the grids as assets. They failed to load into AD 1.6.5 most likely because they were created with a 1.7 line program (APub).

I post it here as an attachment (180 KB). Those are of A4 page size but it should be possible to adjust to other page sizes as well. Let me know if this works.

    Layout grid.afassets

    1. File > New: change some of the document settings and select 'Create Preset'.
    2. Rename this preset (and don't close the window).
    3. Change again some of the document settings and select again 'Create Preset'.
    4. The 'Page Preset' drop down list displays the name of the previously created preset and adds another 'Unnamed Preset' to the bottom of the list.

Expected behaviour: 'Create Preset' brings the newly created preset to the top of list (and into view) and it can be renamed immediately.

Apart from that I am very happy to see the addition of custom presets to APub!

I think there's a bug in the flowing of text from one frame to another. I attach a test file to demonstrate this.

    1. Click inside the 3-column text frame.

    2. Click on the little (it could usefully be bigger) orangey-red triangle on the frame's right-hand edge. The "new text frame" cursor appears (T in a box).

    3. Attempt to drag a new text frame. If it works, move to the new text frame, click inside that, and keep repeating steps 2 and 3.

    4. For me, this will sooner or later cause Publisher to crash. Sometimes it happens on the first "flow out" attempt; sometimes only after 2 or 3 or 4 "flow outs" have been completed.

Interesting. I cannot reproduce this. It seems to work here.

    I build my grids manually

While the functionality of a grid in APub would be helpful, everything is already there to build your own custom grids. Use rectangles, style them, group them and put them in the background or on master pages. You can even save them as assets. See my two screenshots here (one with a layout grid on a master page spread and one with two different layout grids in the assetts panel):

    Layoutgrid01.thumb.PNG.ed092dd3ca50930dddcbc8e920f25b25.PNG

I found I had to fiddle a little with the snapping settings to make snapping work. Preset 'Object Creation' together with 'Candidate List' seems to work.

I find this important, because it gives everyone who needs it an instant workaround, while other feature requests (e.g. data merge to name just one) can only be implemented by the Affinity programmers. That way we can take away some pressure from the ever so growing list of features that seem to be 'a MUST' ;)

I'm not saying the feature request is not neccessary. I just try to find a way to help myself and other forumster.

  5. I searched the forum but did not find this one...

    1. Create a new document.
    2. Create a text frames, switch to the Move Tool.
    3. Make sure the text frame is selected and hover the mouse cursor above e.g. the left transformation handle > the mouse cursor changes to a double sided arrow.
    4. Now double click. APup instantly freezes.

    Can anyone reproduce this?

Now....at the moment I can force the Grid Manager to fill this role, but again, it requires considerable effort, and some computation. Also, the grids are only calibrated to page edges, there's no option to calibrate to page margins. (As there is in InDesign, though, I believe, not in Quark.)

I think the Grid Manager is the place to go. I agree, it is not there yet. But it should be possible to enhance the options by what is missing.
Currently I miss the option to offset the axes and - as you point out - to assign to certain page areas (as edges or margins).

There is already the possibility to save and manage presets :)

dominik – thanks, that's the sort of thing I was after. InDesign has (had?) the Master Text Frame checkbox which would set up empty linked text boxes on a new doc.

I think we will see a mixture of improvements with the functionality of master pages besides the developers and a learning curve on our side (the users) on how to optimally set up and use master pages. I am sure the to be released tutorial videos will also shed some light (and wisdom) on the topic.  I'm really looking forward to both parts :)

What if you want to create a booklet of 100 pages where each page contains an identical text box linked to the next page? As far as I can see this would involve setting up a page, creating 99 duplicates and then linking each text box manually. No one's going to do that.

You can do this by SHIFT+clicking on the little triangle in the lower right half of a text frame. This adds as many linked text frames and fills them with text you import.

But at looking again at your question: you want to create 100 pages with empty linked text frames in advance and fill them later with text? I think it does not work that way.

Your case is efficient for selecting all artboards, but its not for selecting multiple artboards, because their order usually is not the same as that of layers in the layers palette, and finding the artboard in the layers palette to select it is much harder than selecting its name in the workspace.

That is a valid point. I am sure the programmers are listening and are putting this on their (ever so growing) todo list :)

    Cheers,

I know that I can do that, but I have a file with tens of artboards and selecting the name of each artboard individually is annoying.

    Hi @alsarraf,

there's another way to select multiple artboards quite efficiently. Use the layers palette.

Assuming you want to select ALL artboards:

    1. In the layers palette click on the top most artboard.
    2. Then SHIFT+Click on the bottom most artboard > now all artboards are selected and can be moved with the Move Tool.

If you want to exclude some of the artboards you can CTRL+Click on them (make sure to click on the artboard's name, not on the thumbnail).

I hope this is closer to what you are asking for :)

Add an option in the Context Toolbar for the Move Tool that makes the tool selects artboards instead of its layers.

This will dramatically save time and efforts for anyone who want to rearrange tens of artboards.

    Hello @alsarraf,

you can click on the artboard's name and this will select the entire artboard. You can SHIFT+click on multiple artboard names and select those you want to move.

PS: ... as @Aammppaa posted one minute ago while still typing :)

    2. Pressing v will take you to the select tool. A second press will return you to which ever tool you were using previously.

I think pressing v types the letter 'v' with the Text Tool enabled ;)

You first have to press ESC and then v to switch from the Text Tool to the Move Tool. Pressing t switches back to the Text Tool.

(Note: I may be wrong because I'm not at my Affinity computer right now).

So please, Serif, bring back Movie Plus!!  My recent YouTube Videos (same ID as this forum) are all made with Movie Plus.

    Hello @GFDBILL,

    and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to answer your first post here with a not so good message. The question for a movie editing software in the line of Affinity has been asked before and has been answered several times my Seriif's staff. There are currently no plans for such a program.

    E.g. see here:

I hope you find some other program that can be of use for you.

    Cheers :)

but I have a hard time understanding why it has to be "years" into the future...

'Years' is certainly a long period to wait and I have not seen any other information in the forum, that is more precise.

I assume the people at Serif have come to the conclusion to be anxious with that kind of announcements because there were many complaints about the somewhat delayed release of APub beta. It must be really hard for them to find the right balance between their rather open communication and not promising too much :)

This one goes for AD, AP for both iPad and desktop.. (Mac for me) but anyway, could it be good to have a “note” section?

To write a little about the client, what fonts and details used for the project?

For me it would be really useful, especially to remember details.. or maybe even a task section? :-)

    Just an idea..

    Hi @276ccm,

you can always create a text layer with your notes, name it 'Notes' and hide it before export and while you are working on the design. This is not perfect but works pretty well :)

You could even create assets with the look of Post-Its and place them as sticky notes.

I see what you mean. Why didn't it occur to me that the sneak peeks of Designer 1.7 would also be in Publisher? That "Transform" section for the Node Tool is new!

I think in APub beta we can see some of @Ben's work that he showed off at the beginning of this thread in regard to the pen tool. It's really worth looking into it! There is even 'Snap Node Handles to Grid' implemented that was requested by many users (and which was not a favourite thing to do for Ben, if I recall correctly).

Currently I'm trying to understand 'Construction mode'.

Thank you @Ben, I am looking forward to the upcoming 1.7 line of 'the Affinitys'.

This product appears to be limited to paper and printing products.

And that is a good thing in my opinion.

Web and print design are completely different things and require completely different techniques in the background.

Your example of outputting packages of printproducts to present on the web is a valid point but I do not think that a layout program should be capable of that kind of output. This would rather be a mockup in a 3D-program or maybe something one can do with Affinity Designer.

    Cheers :)
