  1. Hi @garrettm30, may I ask what 'auto' does? I could not figure it out. Thanks, d.
  2. There is actually one thing I am missing in the Navigator Panel: some way to click drag a rectangle to zoom to a certain area. Click dragging only moves the set view area around. d.
  3. I personally tend to have artboards all over the place. Not in a sequential order like pages. Many times I end up with very differently sized artboards when e.g. working on a web project. I find the Navigator Panel helpful to keep track of the artboards. Or I simply hit CTRL+0 to get a complete overview and then z to zoom to the area/artboard I want to work on. I do not miss an additional art board panel. d.
  4. Good to know that you found this already. Yes, it is just a workaround but the only thing we currently have. They do not give this information in general, except for a view hints now and then that something is being actively developed. There has been a (better several) long discussions about roadmaps. Currently there is no roadmap. It may be that this will change at a later time. Basically it has proven that wether they provide such information or they don't, people are always complaining, no matter what Cheers, d.
  5. There is no 'Offset Path' there. But you can mimic this with multiple outlines, some of them with a transparent line colour. Basically the 'offset' is the line width of some of the outlines. d.
  6. Thanks for explaining. I never thought of it as a numbering system. Learned something new d.
  7. I searched the forum and did not find anything. I tried in APub 1.7.3.481 and it does work there without a crash. In the latest beta (1.8.0.499 Windows) create a new document. In the Text Styles panel choose for any of the paragraph styles from the right drop down menu (I tried with three) 'Edit "..." ' (it spells the name of the paragraph instead of the dots). Switch to 'Tab Stops' and click on the little icon below the tab stop list to add a tab stop. > APub vanishes d.
  8. I searched the forum but could not find something about this (in a reasonable time): Create a picture frame and place an image in it. Click on the picture frame and resize the image (e.g. larger). In the toolbar click on the image info to open the image dimensions box. Click on 'Original Size' > nothing happens. Type in 'Scale' 100% > the image resizes. I would expect that 'Original Size' would either be greyed out or does what it says. I noticed that when clicking on the image under the picture frame in the layers panel and the clicking 'Original Size' does work as expected. The behaviour with the picture frame selected seems to be unlogical to me. d.
  9. Thanks @carl123, this is an explanation. With added content and renamed masters I can see that reordering works. Swapping default names looks funny to me, though. Is there a reason behind this? d.
  10. Thanks for the latest beta and some great new features. I tried to reorder master spreads and I can see blue indicators where they are supposed to drop. But the master spreads stay in place. d.
  11. I want to explain a little further why I think the preferences window is less than optimal. For me it has turned out to work best to hit CTRL+, to open preferences and then click on one of the icons. To jump to another section I click on the 'overview' icon (the one with the 12 dots) and then on another icon. I completely abandoned to use the arrow buttons. I think it would be better to have a list of section names at the left side of the preferences window or maybe some icons across the top of the window. This would save one click inbetween section changes (and add additionally a permanent overview of available preference sections). I have the paragraph styles window in mind. d.
  12. With all due respect: there is nothing broken. It just doesn't work as you wish. It is fair to ask for improvements but I find it a bit unfair to call it broken. d.
  13. Well, I didn't post but liked @Tupaia's post mostly because of this statement: Yes, I'm on Windows. d.
  14. Hello @AlanPC, I can understand that your first contact with APub must have been frustrating. Apart from the missing templates it takes a little learning the new software, too. It is possible to return a newly purchased licence within 14 days. See this page with a 'returns' email adress on it (unfortunately I was redirected to the german version of the page): https://store.serif.com/de/help/#returns This way you can accomplish your job first and give APub another try some time later. I am sure they will come up with some kind of template system at some time. Cheers, d.
  15. Could you use some kind of mask that consists of two rectangles of which the smaller one cuts out the area of the visible part of the image? This could be locked and the image below can be moved and zoomed as needed. d.
  16. These are - in my eyes - some valid points you make. Serif has proven to think about additional indicators (e.g. alignment handles) so maybe they want to pick up these ideas. An explanation (and documentation) of the left and right double click behaviour would be helpful. d.
  17. Hi @GarryP, you are correct. My wording was a little unprecise. It is the bottom adjustment handle, the blue dot on top of which the mouse cursor turns into a double arrow. Perhaps I misunderstood the OP's question. I read in 'it is only as deep as the text it contains' that he wants to shrink the text frame to the text's lenght. You are right, though, a double click does not expand a text frame. I am not sure if this would make sense in all situations, maybe only where overflowing text is not very long. Instead we can turn on preview of overflow text and then decide what to do with it. E.g. resize the text frame or link to an other one. Let's see what @Richard786 thinks about it. d.
  18. Hi @Richard786, try double clicking on the text frame's bottom border. d.
  19. I am not sure about that but don't have proof of the opposite Maybe you want to post a short notice in the bugs forum with a link to this thread? Your findings and descriptions could help moderators to track these bugs down. Cheers, d.
  20. This is strange: I think it's worth bringing this to notice of Serif staff. It's not a big thing but should help to make help better. d.
  21. First off, I have set APub to 'English UK'. I just open the built in help and type in 'lock'. In the search results I find the Move Tool. Since I know that 'lock children' is part of the Move Tool I kept reading there. But you are right the word 'lock' is not listed in the search results itself. BTW, I'm on Windows. d.
  22. I support this feature request. A shortcut key also would overcome the somewhat arkward position on the very right of the toolbar. You can search help for 'lock' and it lists the Move Tool and there you find 'lock children' explained. But no shortcut, though. d.
  23. Interesting, never heard of that. There is this new Windows utility 'Fancy Zones' (the name makes me shiver) as part of Windows Power Toys: https://www.onmsft.com/how-to/how-to-use-fancyzones-windows-10s-new-tiling-window-manager I wonder if this could be of use here (obviously I haven't tried it). d.
  24. Hello @katrinrr, in some way you nailed the missing features of APub pretty good These are not there, yet. It is not clear when these features will be introduced. You can. You first 'expand field' (from the right click menu) and this turns placeholder text into editable text. The reason behind this is that place holder text is per definition a field with the property to always fill the available space. If you increase or decrease the size of a textbox placeholder text adapts. In the 'View' menu look for 'Text Ruler'. I'm not too familiar with dictionaries. Others may give you an answer to that. Cheers, d.
  25. Thanks all, I had missed Carl's posting about this. It now makes sense to me and I understand that it is not a bug. d.
