  1. Today I tried to give APub a hard time and created a couple of non square vector objects (and some square, too). I turned them into text frames via menu command. It was no problem to link them with the Move Tool via the link gadget (or what it's called). Added some filler text and expanded. Text flows across all linked frames. After this I added different properties to text frames and text all across. Rotated and scewed. Added some FX. The outcome is not pretty, but to my eyes impressive. Everything works as expected (note to myself: add pinned objects and test text wrap options). The only thing I came across I reported here: I'm very much looking forward to the launch an June, 19th. d.
  2. Create a new document, add two text frames and link them via text flow. Insert 'Filler Text' to flow across both frames. Right click on the text to 'Expand Field'. Click into the text once to deselect everything. With the Text Tool still active press CTRL+A to select all text again. a) Click anywhere into the first text frame > the entire text gets deselected. b) Click into the second frame > nothing happens (except between in the blank space between paragraphs). Note: especially when clicking on the highlighted area of text within the second text frame - even when zoomed in very close - nothing happens. d.
  3. Thanks @thomaso for your in depth answer. Helpful to me, too d.
  4. Hello @Warwick X, welcome to the forum. Maybe I am not quite understanding what you mean with 'grey scale filter'. Please try the following: Select the photo you want to process. From the menu select 'Layer > New Adjustment > Black & White'. This turns a photo into a black and white photo. Is this what you are looking for? d.
  5. Good to hear you sorted this out. I agree a enhanced eyedropper tool would be a good thing. Unfortunately the key combination does not work within text selections (but at least with entire text frames). d.
  6. Indeed, it is missing a direct link from the Swatches panel to a gradient editor. But: if you switch to the gradient tool first with no object selected and then click on a gradient swatch, this will load this gradient into the grandient tool's context toolbar. From there you can edit it and then save it as a new gradient. I think the concept of 'global gradient swatches' does not exist. d.
  7. I think this is a very good idea. This would enhance the gradients a lot. OTOH I have the strong feeling that the gradient mesh will bear some interesting possibilities ... once it is there. And there is no time schedule about this. d.
  8. This is simply something that is not possible. There is no connection between the local language setting in APub and the company. @walt.farrell has kindly pointed this out, already (on a side note: we do not one-to-one conversations here at the forum. It's more like 'mingle and discuss' ) It happened to me in the past occasionally that download times were extremely slow (up to 1 1/2 hours for a file that usually takes 3 minutes). I assume this is related somehow to the connection between the computer and Amazon's cloud where the files are stored. I have no idea what the cause can be. Cheers, d.
  9. Oh, I didn't check these. Usually I work with the mouse in these areas after I have to click into them first, anyway. But, yes, keyboard navigation can be of some importance for some. But it needs to be thought out very well. d.
  10. Hi @mainly bread, welcome to the forum. Try CTRL+arrow key. This lets you page through the pages (spreads). d.
  11. Hello @AKAMERA, first off, welcome to the forum. I know not enough about how you installed the Affinity Publisher (or APub) beta versions on your friends PCs but I have an idea of what is going on. The language of the program is a local preference of APub. Email news and announcements are sent from a Serif account that has it's own language settings. There is no connection between the two. So, if you created by any chance for each of your friends an own Affinity account it would be in the online account's settings where you (or your friends) could change the language in which email messages are sent. I know, this is only a small guess and a kind try to help you with this. I hope I'm not pointing you in a wrong direction Cheers, d.
  12. By looking at the screenshot I would try to check 'Include entries before TOC'. This could help. d.
  13. Hi @cgrantmccool, the thing is not that you can't already create something on production level quality. It's more about long term support and stability and workflow. It is possible to do 'one shot' publishings that most likely will not be used at a later time. I did successfully. But it would not be a good idea to start a project that may take several months to completion. There have been reported several cases here in the forum where users where stuck with a broken document. d.
  14. I think that is a valid idea. Good to hear that you got it solved d.
  15. I can confirm that this has worked now for me, as well (after the initial email never arrived and the code unfortunately didn't work. Customer service was good as always, though) Thanks for an additional path to the pre-order offer. Which I took advantage of d.
  16. I've seen a video about this feature in InDesign some time ago and there is no equivalent of this in APub. I did not know that this is possible with any kind of shape (= form?). You can achieve this only with some workarounds and they will certainly take their time. It depends on what you want to create. From what I recall this feature was introduced to InDesign at a rather late time after the first release. The same will apply to APub if it ever will come. Cheers, d.
  17. Hello @RONNO, welcome to the forum. This is not possible at the moment. What you can do is draw a table with the number of cells you need. The go to 'Layer > Convert to Curves'. This will result in a vector object that looks similar. But it is an object of multiple lines and it is of little use if you want to apply fills. So this is perhaps not exaclty what you are looking for d.
  18. I, too, suspected this to be the case. With different left and right margins this should not work. I came to the conclusion that it is snapping to the centre of the textframe with two column guides. This is more of an academic discussion, though After all, snapping to column gutters centre does not work. d.
  19. Try snapping to the center of the gutter of a text frame's columns. With column guides it seems to work only if there are two of them on the page. d.
  20. I assume this will come with the Photo Persona. Indeed, APub does not have a brush tool and masks are of limited use for now. d.
  21. Dear @barbn, it's not a matter of changing their minds. They are very much aware of the lack of support for writing languages other than Left-to-Right. It seems to be a major task and, as I understand it, they have decided to implement this in a later version. See this post: Personally I do understand that this leaves out a huge amount of possible customers. I believe this is only based on technical decisions. Best regards, d.
  22. You can apply masks to any object. To picture frames, too. Look for the little icon at the bottom of the layers panel: d.
  23. Hi @Alfred, thanks for the tip. I remember slightly haven read about this feature. I haven't used it before and so it slipped out of my mind. d.
  24. Hi @HYR, look at the menu 'View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas'. Note that each spread has its own area left and right to it. It's not one big paste board. d.
