Curated list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts
Frances Proctor replied to Mithferion's topic in Resources
Thank you Mitherion for all the work you have put into this. I've added a few new fonts to my collection from this list! -
As Walt has suggested once you have your vector shape the way you want it Make sure it's selected Open the assets panel. If you do not see the panel you will need to go view > studio click assets in the list to enable it. The assets panel should now be on the left of your screen. The assets panel will have a few categories of stuff that comes with Affinity you can easily add your own categories. At the top right of the assets panel you will see a menu button click that and you will have options to add your own categories rename categories and more. Under that next to the subcategory name is another menu if you click that you get another menu that allows you to rename your subcategories move them up and down and at the bottom Add from Selection. click that and affinity will add your selected item as an asset. You can export your assets category to another location on your computer as a back up through the main assets menu (top Button) as well as import assets that you have saved or downloaded. This way assets can be installed on all three apps if you have them all

Ok so what I figured out was if I drag the mask into the pattern as a child layer the pattern is no longer repeated but if I group the mask and and the pattern the mask is still only applied to the pattern and the pattern remains editable and I can still edit the gradient if I wish which is basically what I wanted. however the gradient mask can not repeat as a pattern. I suspect the gradient is vector which is why when used as a child layer it breaks the pattern. What I want is do able after all which is cool! however it would be nice to be able to ha an editable repeating gradient which I suppose will have to wait until vector patterns are added to Designer.

I applied the mask to the pattern layer using the gradient tool but once the mask was applied the pattern no longer repeated.

pattern layers can be layered in a graphic and bit can be erased out to show the layers underneath which is quite useful but what I would like to do is apply a gradient mask to a pattern layer so I could at any time go back in and adjust the gradient mask to adjust the transparent areaof the pattern layer. Currently when you apply a gradient mask to a pattern layer the pattern no longer repeats. I may be asking for things that are not possible but I would be really great if a gradient mask could become a pattern layer and be nested as a child layer of another pattern layer so you could adjust the pattern and its transparency seaparately

affinity photo Beach text effect
Frances Proctor replied to Frances Proctor's topic in Share your work
No I saved my pattern layers as assets and then I simply drag a layer out from the assets panel on to the document. Then I dragged the pattern layer into the text layer as a child layer. That way everything remains editable. I can easily tweak the pattern layers and change the text or font -
It already is possible to save a finished pattern as an asset. Make sure you have your pattern layer selected then In the upper right of the assets panel click the menu button and select add from selection and that's it. you can then reuse your patterns over and over by simply dragging them out from the assets panel.

Another Text effect that incorporates pattern layers. There is one on the background too. This time I went for a kind of vintage 3d look I chose soft muted colours in tones of pink and yellow .

affinity photo Beach text effect

Inspired by beach style resin crafts I saw on the internet I thought I would re create the effect as a text effect in Affinity Photo. I used seamless repeating images as pattern layers and the text is still editable.
-
I put together a quick video that shows how to use pattern layers to add seamless textures to your work. you will learn how to create a seamless texture using the filter forge plug in, and how to save that texture as an asset that you can drop into any document at any time! https://youtu.be/lUrliiXVVQI My apologies for not having the video play in this post but I can't figure out how to do it

cool!

enjoying a day off with a little space exploration. There are filters, pattern layers, and some painting in there. the rock is a pattern layer in an ellipse and then a spherical live filter layer.
-
My apologies if this has already been reported , I did search and couldn't find anything. When I add an outer shadow to an item and the add a liquify live filter the shadow gets clipped off. if I add the liquify first I get the same thing. The only way I can get the effect to work is to rasterize the object with the shadow before applying the liquify filter, which makes the process destructive.
-
Perhaps I have this in the wrong place it's not a question but rather a description of how Filterforge can be used to create pattern layers and a destructive filter can now be used in a non destructive way. If the moderators feel this would be better elsewhere my apologies.

Hi everyone been enjoying the new version 1.9 I also enjoy using Filter forge and it works quite well with affinity. However applying a filter forge texture is a destructive edit. In Photo 1.9 I have set up a preset for creating patterns it's basically a 600px square document with a transparent background. What I do is add a fill layer and rasterize it. Then I select all (ctrl +A on Pc and I think cmd +A on mac) once I have my selection I go to the filers menu and select Filter forge from the plugins. there are a vast amount of texture filters in the filter forge library to choose from once I have my texture set the way I want it I make sure that seamless tiling is checked on and click apply. Once the filter renders in photo I go to layers> new pattern layer from selection and boom affinity generates a pattern layer ready to use. I like to add my patterns to my assets panel for easy access and the great thing about this is you can clip a texture pattern into text or vector shapes and they remain completely editable.

Hi Haakoo! You could import batches of assets of any kind that way as well as lPattern layers. The way these pattern layers work reminds me of another program we used to use.
-
Another interesting thing about saving your patterns as assets is they work in Designer! You have to have photo to create them but once you have a category of patterns saved as assets you ca export them then import them into Designer and they scale and rotate etc just like they do in photo.I could see it being useful
-
Ohhhh that sucks! but yes I store back ups of any important assets, brushes, styles etc. There is a lot you can do with patterns in affinity.
