Yes, thank you. Before I only turned windows Update on and that did not help. but after you asked again, I also turned Windows Module Installer and that worked. After that I turned both off (having them on causes some problems on my system) but I was able to update Designer and it is working.

AdamStanislav reacted to Matti Lintula in Wacom Pressure sensitively in Designer?
Same problem here. I have Windows 10, Affinity Designer 1.5.3.69 and Wacom Bamboo MTE-450A with the latest driver installed.
I select PENCIL TOOL and define Controller to be PRESSURE. When I draw a line, the pressure variation affects nothing. I've also checked the brush settings and everything seems to be in order.

Using a pressure modifier on PAINT BRUSH in Affinity Photo works perfectly well though. So it seems to be a problem with Designer only.

    Any solutions?

EDIT: It pays to complain. The pressure sensitivity started to work. I just chose a different brush (Solid brush with pressure size 128) and adjusted the brush width (to 30) and it works. I have no idea why that helped, but it did.

Maybe for the average person. But if you know how to get to the services (e.g., press Win+x, then g, then select Services and Applications, then Services), you can scroll down to Windows Update, stop the service (if running) and disable it. And then, when/if you want to check for updates, enable it, turn it on, check for updates, stop the service and disable it again.

I agree, but we haven't got a method for reproducing this, and nothing about checking for a new beta has changed in RC3, and no other user has mentioned this, so chances are, this is caused by a change in the user's machine. Anti-virus / anti-malware are capable of bringing down an application as they inject themselves into the running process, so if there is a problem in that software, it can bring down our application. We've seen it before on this forum when someone had a piece of video capture software installed. There was nothing we could do to fix the issue, other than recommend that they uninstall the offending software. I also sent a bug report off to the manufacturers of the video capture software.

    Hi clandestine,
This works on the Mac (commercial version) version but i've not tried it on a Windows machine with the latest Beta, so it's possible it may have not been implemented there yet.
I will check this out and fill a bug report if that's the case.

AdamStanislav reacted to rubs in Several SVG export bugs
    Hi again,

I'm including an example AD file with a couple of exported SVGs and the settings I've used. Rectangles upper detail and bottom detail were exported as paths (item 3).

Item 6: after some testing, now I understand that SVG files are dependent of the DPI settings. This was a bit confusing for me because DPI should only make sense in printed media. So I didn't think it would make a difference, but it does (see attached SVGs). Now I know that I have to remember using 96 dpi (Windows' resolution) at all times for digital files.

Steps to reproduce item 4: open Export Settings, set 96 dpi, and change to any of my presets. The settings go back to 72 dpi even if my preset says "use document resolution" or is set to 96 DPI (see the screenshots).

As a side note, the message "nothing will be rasterised" (in British even if my settings are US-English) completes the confusion since it may look like "don't bother with DPI, this is SVG". So now you get the whole picture.

AdamStanislav reacted to rubs in Several SVG export bugs
    Hi,

I found the following problems when exporting SVGs:

    Opacity values are changed. E.g. 0.3 becomes 0.298039, 0.65 becomes 0.647059, etc.
In paths, precisely positioned nodes are not exported with much precision. E.g. 14 becomes 14.001, 13 becomes 12.999, 0 becomes -0.001, etc.
Some rectangles are exported as paths instead of rects
AD doesn't memorize settings and the chosen preset between exports. I believe these should be memorized between exports and even saved with the document
AD crashed when I created a preset name with a hyphen in it. Can't reproduce it again.
Sometimes objects are exported with the wrong size. I believe this happens if you change the DPI setting before choosing an SVG preset, but I didn't test it enough to be sure.

I'm not sure if these problems are Windows-specific or not, so please feel free to move this topic elsewhere if it is the case.

Back when I started Beta testing AD for Windows (which seems like a long time ago, even though it was not :)), naturally, I went through all the official AD tutorials on Serif’s web site (and some unofficial ones on YouTube) to see what it can do, so I know what to test.

Having watched them all, some more than once, I concentrated on the testing.

Well, just today, I went back to the Serif tutorial pages and was pleasantly surprised to find a number of new tutorials specific to v.1.5. They have added many nice new features I didn’t know about.

If you have not visited the tutorial pages lately, I suggest you do so. Not just so you can get impressed (which you will), but so you know what new things you may want/need to test, since of course if we don’t know about some of the features, we won’t Beta test them.

    Adam

P.S. No doubt some of the people reading this work for Serif’s competition. That’s fine, of course. I do, however, want to suggest you make sure to be seated when you go visit the newest tutorials, as you may get quite dizzy seeing all the new ideas and things.  :P

Click here to download the latest beta

    Status: Public Beta
    Purpose: Stability
    Requirements: None

As this is a beta release, it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that you may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.5 cannot be opened in 1.4, which means files created with the Windows beta cannot be opened in the Mac AppStore version of Designer, instead you will need the latest macOS beta.

We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.   If you have a general question about the software, please head over to the Questions Forum, or if you have any suggestions, please head over to the Feature Requests forum.
