You aren't the first one to request Windows support, but you may be right, you may be the first to request it and use the proper tags! I agree with you completely in regards to Adobe. Their money grab with the subscriptions was the straw that broke the camel's back. I would recommend that you check out a Mac mini if price is an issue. Or think about buying a used Mac (any one will do, a used mini is a pretty good bargain). I bought a second hand iMac, it was cheap and it runs Yosemite and Affinity Designer (and Photo) like a dream. Just something to think about.

I too wish that Affinity Designer had an eyedropper that behaved more like Illustrator's eyedropper. An eyedropper like Illustrator's is a huge time saver.

Hokusai got a reaction from cchris in Publisher Beta?
I too am very happy with Affinity Designer and I'm looking forward to Affinity Publisher but I do have one concern. It isn't really a big thing and it doesn't have anything to do with features or use-ability it is more about image. I worry that with the name "Publisher" might give people the wrong impression. For as long as I can remember, Publisher (the name) has been used to refer to the abomination that is Microsoft Publisher. For those who have never used it or who have never had to try to get one through a RIP then consider yourself lucky. I just hope that people don't think that Affinity Publisher and Microsoft Publisher are in anyways related. All the professional graphics people that I know and have known, all of them have many horror stories about Microsoft Publisher. I know that Affinity Publisher won't be like that but it is name association. Just something to think about.

    mr_bee,

Affinity Designer is an incredible bargain at $60. Try it and you will understand. The software is very powerful, fast,  and they have added lots of nice little touches that show that how focused they are on making a great product. Also if you see how hard their team works to squash bugs, make improvements, and actually listen to what their customers say, you would also think that $60 is a steal. Affinity Designer compares very favourably with Adobe Illustrator which is priced much higher (and you have to pay a subscription to use it). Most comparable vector packages are going to cost you $400 or more (US Dollars and so it would be even more in Canadian Dollars).

Hokusai got a reaction from MattP in Show Colour Space
I was noticing today that in Affinity Designer I can't tell what colour space a file is using unless I go to Document Settings. I thought it would be nice if the colour space was shown next to or below the file name: For example the title bar would read: "Affinity Designer - Untitled - (CMYK)" for a new document that hasn't been saved yet. This isn't something that is necessary mind you but a nice touch nevertheless. For people who work with images and logos for the web and images and logos for print, this is very helpful.

Hokusai got a reaction from ronnyb in Undo Plus
One of the things that I love about Affinity Designer is the History palette. I always thought it was odd that Photoshop had a History Palette but Illustrator didn't. There is one thing that I think that could be added that would be useful (at least to me). In addition to the History palette, I think it would be useful if the "undo" command showed what it was going to undo. For example "Undo delete", as of now it only says "undo" but it doesn't say what action it is going to undo.

Hokusai got a reaction from MattP in Smart Navigation indicator
I always have the navigator tab visible so that when I'm zoomed in a lot, I can still have an idea of where I am. The only problem that I have is, sometimes the colour of the navigator indicator (the floating box that follows your movement and shows where you are) blends in with the picture I'm working on and I can't always tell where I am. Is there anyway that you can make it so that Designer detects the dominate colour of picture and then chooses another colour for the indicator that is easier to see (possibly an opposite colour)? For example, now I'm working on a picture that is predominately blue, but the navigator indicator is blue or kind of greenish and it is hard to see. If this isn't possible, then how about the ability to change the colour of the indicator square? Just a thought. Does this happen to anyone else?

    kbro,

Have you tried downloading and using the beta? Somethings that are problems with the App Store version have been fixed in the beta. The only thing to remember is that if you open a file in the beta version, you won't be able to open it in the App Store version. Try the one that I did using the beta version and see if it works for you. It is a PDF, not an Affinity Designer file. If it works for you then you might consider downloading the beta.

Hokusai got a reaction from ronnyb in User Defined Colour Swatch Size
I could have sworn that I read this request before but when I searched for it I couldn't find anything. I'm not sure if this is something that affects only me but I have a terrible time selecting colours. Even in the latest beta, when I want to select a swatch I often accidentally click the one next to the swatch that I want (or I have a hard time clicking on the swatch that I want because of the small size). Would it be possible to make the size of the swatches user defined or at least just bigger?

Thanks you guys so much! I just happened to notice that with the beta, I can now use command + Y to see outlines and as well you added shortcuts for other views too. That is great, now if only there was a "Hide/Show All" menu option (as well a shortcut for it too) I would be ecstatic!

Hokusai got a reaction from Fixx in AutoTrace (convert raster image to vector)
I can understand people's request for an auto-tracing feature, it seems to good to be true. Vectors made without having to actually draw anything. Auto-Tracing like Illustrator's live trace are handy if (and it is a really big if) quality isn't an issue. Sure it is a time saver if quality doesn't matter. The truth is there simply is no substitute for someone taking the time to create an image, logo, ect properly. If you have a high res image to use, then sometimes (depending on the image) live trace will do a decent job but not a great job. You just can't auto-trace something and expect it to be as good as one done by a skilled artist. That isn't to say that it isn't useful, sure there are times when it is useful but I think I would rather have the Affinity team working on adding other innovative features than an auto-trace function. Simple logos are easy to trace and they don't take so much time anyways. Complex images take a long time to trace but if they do, then the auto-trace wouldn't work well on those images anyways. I've never tried VectorMagic though maybe it's quality is close to that of a skilled artist but for $300, I doubt that I will ever know! I could buy a lot of sushi for $300!

    MattP,
Here is an example. MEB is correct, it is destructive but there are times when it is very useful.

MEB, sorry I have no idea when is the best time to add it to program but I agree, having boolean operations working perfectly (or as best as possible) is more important. Thanks for better explaining my request!

    Thanks

    supervolting,

I agree with you, Inkscape is a very powerful vector program but the original poster needs something user-friendly and easy to use, that isn't Inkscape. Inkscape's user-interface is horrible. Sure it is powerful but just not  user-friendly at all. Affinity Design has, in my opinion, a relatively easy learning curve. I think it is more intuitive in many areas than Illustrator. While Inkscape is free, I would gladly pay for a program that had a better user-interface (and it is well worth it). Affinity Designer is powerful and yet it won't break the bank so there is no reason not to use it to learn more about drawing and using vectors.

    Meb,

Any chance that Hide/Show All might be on or added to but just not listed on the official Road Map? I'm surprised that not many people are requesting this as it is one of the biggest time savers for me when using Illustrator. Being able to hide something with a simple keystroke and then being able to show it without having to mouse over to the Layers palette and toggle the Hide/Show button every time I need to hide/show something saves me an enormous amount of time. I'm still hoping that it will be added some time in a future release. I know that the development team is working hard and that they've got a full plate but I'm still hopeful for this.

Just as an update, after my trial was up, I purchased Affinity Designer from the App store and I'm very happy with it. I have been thoroughly enjoying the program. I love how easy it is to adjust lines, a real improvement on the way other programs work. I also like the way Affinity Designer handles gradients, very interesting. Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to seeing how the program matures.
