  1. Allan,

Sorry I'm late to the party but congratulations on publishing your own book, that is something that many people dream about doing but for some reason or another they never get around to it. I love the type (or font) on your My Strawberry Monkey logo. Is that your own writing/drawing or is it an actual font? It is great to see what people have made using Affinity's products!

  2. ONSO,

Thanks for the kinds words. At the bottom there is the option to either "Drag files here to attach, or choose files...." and I just clicked on the "choose files" and then added the images that I wanted to add.

  3. I made this piece as a part of a presentation that I had to make recently to a potential client.

It is based on a woodblock print by Kuniyoshi and the original name of the print is Princess Takiyasha summons a skeleton spectre to frighten Mitsukuni. I've never seen an original print of this that was in good shape and I thought it was a shame because it is a very nice print so I decided to make my own version (with a few changes here and there). I hope you enjoy.

Is there a work-around way to "select the same ____" that you might know of and share as we wait for this feature.

    Afrowave,

The only thing that I've been able to come up is to isolate similar items that I might want to change later all on their own layer. This doesn't always work of course but in some cases it can help make it easier.

    Best of luck,

A key difference is/was that Adobe had already bought what was a very mature (at the time) PageMaker from Aldus (as well as FreeHand). During the transition, many of us kept on using PageMaker until InDesign caught up. But we always had a translator to go back and open PageMaker docs in InDesign for quite some time. Our work was not hugely interrupted nor did we face an issue where what we were doing and creating in PageMaker would be "lost" later when moving to the newer InDesign. Many of us weren't thrilled at the time about having to eventually move to ID, but at least Adobe did a somewhat reasonable job of helping the transition of PM files to ID.

Thus we have to hope that Affinity can/will be able to offer a similar path. We will have to eventually be able to bring our legacy files into their Publisher app, and sooner would obviously be better for a more rapid adoption of the new app. Just like many apps can open, read and save-as Word documents in word processing, ID files are critical to many pro designers and shops.

    nwhit,

My memory seems to recall things a little differently. I'm not sure but your post seems to imply that Indesign was released not long after Adobe bought Pagemaker, but it was 5 years later (and a long five years if you had to use Ragemaker everyday).  Adobe bought Pagemaker from Aldus in 1994 and they didn't release Indesign until 1999. As well Adobe didn't buy Freehand from Aldus, they bought it from Macromedia who had purchased it from Aldus. Maybe I read your post wrong?

I don't think you can compare the transition from Pagemaker to Indesign in regards to transitioning file from Indesign to Affinity Publisher. Pagemaker and Indesign are owned by the same company, which Affinity Publisher and Indesign aren't. As well Adobe had a legion of developers and while Serif has some very talented developers, no doubt they are fewer in number compared to those at Adobe.

  6. A voting system isn't needed as Psenda has kindly posted a quote from Patrick indicating that. That doesn't mean that the developers don't listen, they do. They listen to users who make civil, well reasoned requests. Users who make a good case for the features that they would like to see added. I personally have never seen or heard about a company that has their developers actively engage with users on their forum. Not only are the developers actively engaging with users, they do so in a manner that is both polite and helpful. Not something you'll see often.

I encourage them however to make sure it can import Pageplus files to save users a lot of work. I remember grumbling about having to reinstall Photoplus so I could export file and then bring them into Affinity Photo.

    Rick G,

I'm pretty sure that the developers have stated that they don't plan on Affinity Publisher having the ability to import PagePlus files other than if you export your PagePlus files as PDF files, then you'd be able to do it.

  8. jackamus,

This has been requested before and I believe that the developers said that it would be added to Publisher (as Step and Repeat). I agree, it would be a very useful addition to Designer. Hopefully they will add it to Designer after they release Publisher.

  9. Milos,

Nice work, I've dabbled with type design but I've never actually made an entire font from scratch but it is only list of things to do!

There is another user here that does comic book lettering. I've seen him around for a while but his user name is Jim_Campbell  and his website is http://clintflickerlettering.blogspot.com. It's worth a read if you have time. Jim is a nice guy and very knowledgeable about lettering.
