Stéfan, I agree with your suggestion that we should be able to lock guides. I believe that the developers know that the Guides in Designer need to be improved and I think that they are planning on adding some improvements in a future release. There are many threads about Guides. Here are few but there are more if you search. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/22939-locking-guides/?p=177817 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/35692-designer-guides-improvements/?hl=guides https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/33872-grids-and-guides-960-and-1200/?hl=guides Hokusai

Import CDR files
Hokusai replied to florponzo's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
florponzo, Hello and welcome to the forums. I don't think that they plan to add the ability to open .CDR file directly but if you were able to export your CorelDraw files as PDF files then you would be able to open them and edit them in Affinity Designer. Here are a few links to threads talking about CorelDraw files. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10884-support-cdr-files/?p=46547 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/29154-ad-cdr-files-coreldraw-import/?hl=%2Bcoreldraw+%2Bfiles There are many other threads out there about .CDR files if you want to read more about it. Best of luck, Hokusai -
Rubbish
Hokusai replied to theLion7's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Henry Porcher, Do you think being so confrontational is going to make everyone here on the forums rush in to help you? Do you think it will also help them to empathize with you as well over your troubles? No it won't. In all likelihood it will put them off. If you are having problems, it can be frustrating but there is no need to be rude. Just state your problems and hopefully one of the staff (who are incredibly nice and helpful) will be able to help you. Sometimes they are busy and so other users will sometimes come to the rescue but I doubt that anyone wants to help someone who rants and complains like you did. Just some advice for you. -
eno, I agree with you, this would be a welcomed addition to Designer. I'm guessing that they are thinking that bleed controls are something more for Publisher (which it would have to have) but it would be nice to have them in Designer too. I normally don't print directly from Designer, I normally put my work into a Page Layout program and print them that way so I didn't even know that you couldn't manually adjust the amount of bleed. For people who don't use a Page Layout program, it would be nice. Hokusai

AintSryBoutIt, I'm not sure if I completely understand your question but I have attached a sample to see if that is what you are looking for. I'm guessing (but I may be completely wrong because I'm having a hard time understanding what you want to do) that you need to first convert the stroke to a shape by using the "Expand Stroke". After that you can use a boolean operation to remove the unwanted things. Right now the "Expand Stroke" doesn't work as smoothly as it will in the future but it will work. Hokusai Example.afdesign

Designer 1.6 Beta – when?
Hokusai replied to Matthias's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
retrograde, I'm completely agree with you 100%! For me, this is the "holy grail" of features that I've been looking and hoping for since I first used Designer. I don't want to waste my time looking for things in the Layers panel. With complex drawings it is a nightmare. There is a much easier and better solution out there (and it is using a Hide/Show All and a Lock/Unlock All shortcut command). It saves so much time. I hope that 1.6 is magic too! Hokusai -
kufloyd, The only way I know of is to use the boolean operations to remove part of the green rectangle so that it doesn't show through the purple (or navy one). The only problem with this is, there is going to be a white line show up or you will need to extend one of the rectangles just slightly to create your own "bleed". Please see my example. You'll have to add the bleed part. Hokusai opacitytest.afdesign

Affinity One - Unified Product
Hokusai replied to therossgroupft's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
therossgroupft, I completely agree with Jamon on this. Combining the apps would be the exact opposite of what you quoted Steve Jobs saying. To merge Photo and Designer together would make them more complicated, not simpler. While I disagree with you, I can understand your thinking. Some people like the idea of convenience just like the "multi-tools" that you can buy (or the spork that Jamon mentioned). Multi-tools give you convenience (having easy access to many tools) but multi-tools are never as good as tools that are designed with a more focused purpose. For me, I would much rather have Photo and Designer as separate apps. There are others here who are for there to be "only one" app and if you search the forums I sure you can find the threads and read more about it. Here is one such link: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/20208-combine-affinity-photo-and-affinity-designer/?hl=%2Bcombining+%2Bdesignerand another great one is here https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/12058-why-not-merge-designer-photo/?hl=%2Bmerge+%2Bdesigner+%2Bphoto -
Jeff, I'm not sure I'm following what your problem is but is it simply a case of going to the "View" menu and then "Studio" and checking the "Transform" studio? The "Transform" studio and the Character palette don't always have to go together, maybe you turned it off by accident or you docked it with another palette? Hokusai

cosmoscorbin, In my opinion the price for Affinity's apps are incredible for what you get and it is easily within reason to purchase licences for both Mac and PC and still come out cheaper than you would with Adobe. I doubt that Affinity Publisher will be able to open .indd files (unless something has changed). My guess is you will need to save your Indesign files as PDF files and then you will be able to bring them into Publisher that way. This is true for PagePlus files too. I also second MikeW's wise observation that you shouldn't expect the beta or even the first release of Affinity Publisher to match Indesign's feature set. Publisher will no doubt have lots of great and innovative features but to get feature parity with a mature program like Indesign is going to take time, so be ready to be patient. Hokusai

[AD] Shape Builder Tool
Hokusai replied to Koutchinski's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
Shape Builder was first added to Illustrator in CS 5 or version 15 which was released in 2010. If Shape Builder is such a BASIC TOOL then why did it take Adobe 14 versions or 23 years to add it to Illustrator? I can understand and appreciate that it speeds up workflows but to claim that it is a basic tool is a bit of an exaggeration. I agree with Alfred on this, it might be nice but it is something that can wait as the Boolean operations pretty much do the same thing. Hokusai- 112 replies

I would guess that an Undo button is not going to be added but here are some of the previous threads about it. For me personally, I feel it is unneeded with the exception of for someone with disabilities or for the iPad. Maybe Oval is right and because of the Touch bar it will find its way into the Affinity lineup? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/16884-please-create-an-undo-and-redo-button/?hl=%2Bundo+%2Bbutton https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/28446-missing-undo-button/?hl=%2Bundo+%2Bbutton

Linux Availability???
Hokusai replied to EWScott's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
bradford, I believe that you can't switch your licences. Here is a link https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/34909-mac-windows-switch/?p=171062. Why not just download the Windows beta and try it to see if it works. If it does then you can decide if you want to go that route, if not nothing lost. There are some people who post here saying how much money Serif would make by making a Linux version. To all of them I ask, if there is so much money to be made in Linux, don't you think the big players would have already figured it out and released a version for Linux? I mean sure, if the market is as big as Linux people say it is, wouldn't Adobe be stupid not to make a Linux version? To me Adobe is as money grubbing as they come and seeing how they are avoiding the Linux market tells me that the money to be made in Linux is less than the money that would be required to write it and support it for Linux. So for a much smaller company like Serif, I can imagine that it would be even less of an attractive option. -
studio97, You are right, Affinity Photo is great. Isn't ActionScript used mainly for Flash? Maybe you are thinking about Photoshop Actions?

Arrowheads please. . .
Hokusai replied to bpedit's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
PeanutsA, I think an important thing to remember is, Affinity Designer isn't merely a rewrite of DrawPlus, it is a completely new program so all the things that were in DrawPlus wouldn't necessarily be in Designer yet. Many DrawPlus users assume that Designer is just the next version of DrawPlus but with a different name but it isn't (according to the developers). Hokusai- 238 replies

Arrowheads please. . .
Hokusai replied to bpedit's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
PeanutsA, The latest beta (Mac beta) is version 1.5.5 and arrowheads isn't in it. I would imagine that the next possible chance of it arriving would be 1.6 which they said would be released sometime in the spring (around Easter possibly). And that is only a chance as the developers haven't (to my knowledge) said anything concrete about when it would be added only that it will be added sometime in the future. I highly doubt that they would add something like arrowheads to a small release like 1.5.2. Normally when they move from, for example, 1.5 to 1.6 they would add more features. The small steps normally improve stability, performance and bug fixes. Hokusai- 238 replies

ohmaild, Sorry I thought you were importing your design into Designer from Illustrator. The "move tool" (the black cursor in Illustrator) and the Node tool (the white cursor in Illustrator) in Affinity Designer behave a little different than the corresponding tools do in Illustrator. They are very similar but there are some differences. Coming from Illustrator it does seem odd that you can't select objects individually with the Node tool once they have been grouped unless you use the Layers Panel and you select it there (and then you can manipulate it using the Node tool with no problems). Give it a try and see if that works for you. With the Node tool go to the Layers Panel and then find the object that you want to manipulate and then select it (not the group but the child or the actual item that you want to change) and you should be able to do it. I don't know if this has been requested but you might want to make a request for it in the Features Request thread. I hope that helps. Hokusai
-
ohmaild, The behavior you are experiencing isn't a problem with the direct selection tool. I believe it is a result of how Designer imports PDF files (or Illustrator files). Without looking at your file directly, I would guess that Designer is importing your file but it is combining or rastering some objects so that is why they appear the same as they were in your Illustrator file but you can't select them individually. If you are working with a lot of Illustrator files, it will take you some time to figure out how to get around some of the challenges of importing PDF files created in Illustrator or illustrator files themselves. Hope that helps, Hokusai

fteifeld, Have some patience. As MEB pointed out in your original post, the developers are working hard to address users' request and to add new features as well. That takes time. You are being a little unrealistic in expecting the developers to drop everything just to respond to your post. In your original post, only 2 days had past before you started complaining. I would imagine that people who complain with a nasty tone like yours are often ignored and with good reason. If I were to complain to you in a manner such as yours, I'm sure you wouldn't be happy about it. If you have a problem, voice it properly and nicely and I'm sure you will be heard. Even if you have harsh criticism, there is a good way to voice it and a bad way. Think before you post. Give the Affinity team some credit, they are working hard on the programs. This is evident by looking how far the products have come from the very first betas. The Affinity products are professional level products. Are they complete? No, they are great for being version 1 releases. Even as a first version, they are very strong and they have lots of innovative and useful features. Does that mean that they have everything that everyone wants? No, but they are working hard to add things that users want and need. So be patient and be nice.

LeviA, This isn't possible, it is something that has been brought up many times but something that is beyond what the developers can do (as Adobe owns .ai and it isn't an open format). Hokusai
