I had the same thought.
But take care, the license model of Canva is different. It's about 110 Euro per year.
Not sure what this will mean for Affinity over time. Nevertheless, I think both can learn from eachother.
Canva, is powerfull, but a bit chaotic, Affinity is powerfull, really Intuitive (except the ipad app) but lacking the video and AI options like canva.
I think it's can be a very positive development. Let's see what it brings.

@Pauls You have cracked it my friend!
When I tried to make the zip for you I was getting an error on one file WebCoatedSWAP2006Grade5.icc
So I removed it from the folder and now EUREKA it works!
Thank you so much for all your help.
I hope this thread helps other users with this issue.

Hey guys,
I've been following this topic for weeks in the hope that someone would have a solution. I've gone through and done most of the fixes in this thread, including the most recent "disable the on-chip graphic adapter" one, but to no avail. I've attached my own Event Manager report to see if Murph and I have the same problem (although I'm trying to use Photo, not Publisher). I have no idea if this matters (as it seemed to when I had a problem with a game a while back) but I do have another monitor attached to my laptop and am extending screens. For some reason, that game would only load if I waited to connect the monitor until after it was loaded. I've tried opening Photo with the monitor unattached and that still didn't help, so who knows 🤷♂️

I may have cracked it!
I uninstalled .NET Framework and then reinstalled 4.8.1
Now the Apps are launching.

So the one thing that is sure is that Affinity MUST include AI tools or otherwise it will be doomed. Who would still buy a car without power steering?
Maybe an easy fix could be to include a plugin like Alpaca AI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4O07Zuy3uc

Yes, but not just Adobe. Black Magic, Midjourney, Wonder and many more.
We work in the film industry and now jobs that would take weeks now take hours.
Jobs are done so much quicker and can be invoiced sooner. Allowing us to be competitively priced and make a better income.

Well if AI doesn’t come into Affinity in the very near future then it is dead, a very great shame, as i moved to Affinity from Photoshop, but AI is a game changer and would save me hours on the editing process, for some shoots, particularly sports, weddings, and such

Adobe's edge is quickly evaporating as well. Meta is now embedding AI generation directly into their social media apps and many other standalone AI generators are adding their own generative fill. The usefulness in regards to productivity can not be ignored for the users, but the business model for sustainability is going to be very challenging as any advantage is quickly lost. Thus is the nature of rapid AI development.
Therefore, my opinion in these regards is that it would not necessarily be beneficial for Affinity to spend its limited resources in a futile effort to keep up with its own implementation. They also would have to deal with as-of-yet-unresolved legal issues.
However, their scripting API would provide the necessary integration which avoids these limitations. 3rd parties and open source communities are going to be far faster at rapid innovation and keeping up with AI.

Please note that if you drop the ball entirely on this and AI in general, this could have catastrophic consequences for the Affinity Suite as we know it.
You might not have any immediate plans, but if this doesn't change (and users arent made aware of it), then its too big of a feature gap for people to ignore.
AI has even changed the definition of what a "photo" is, so you simply cannot afford to ignore it.
This is truly a potential divergence point for Affinity. I hope the right path is chosen.

The content fill is truly a revolutionary level game changer for compositing work. The difference between the tools has mostly been manageable, but AI is providing a separation in capabilities that is enormous.
However, as fast as they can be implemented, they can also be copied. As openAI recently stated, there is no longer a moat to the capabilities you build. Anyone can copy them rather easily.
IMO, the quickest path to these capabilities is for Affinity to focus on finishing their plugin/scripting capabilities. They are a small team compared to Adobe, so getting the API out there allows Affinity to leverage the community and 3rd parties to greatly expand Affinity's capabilities including integrations with AI.

I agree it is hyped, but as professional industrial photographer AI became a bit more than that for me that that.
I would summarize:
AI generative fill AI based background removal, and content aware fill in AI based person/subject cut out, removal & shifts and subject exchange But also adding persons, because AI doen not need all those private documents Additional;
It generates concepts for me like light plans and mooth board fill in for customers The ligh plans save me a lot of time at the shoot, I can already prepare the light setup to get my objects positioned and lighted correct Simple example I create with assistance of AI, which would be great if I sinmply could add the person direct in Affinity.
It's not just about simple editing, but also saves models, money and documents and arrangements for privacy

The AI content aware tool isn't going to replace your amazing artistic mind/hand. It's just going to help you make il even better.
What most people here fail to understand is that AI doesn't mean "replace humans". It's a tool. A BETTER tool. Nothing more than that.

Right on! I came to this thread googling Affinity Photo AI. I have been using Affinity Designer, Photo, Publisher professionally since each initial beta came out, and so far (since 2014) I have loved it, and also my industry and my previous office have started to adopt Affinity widely. It's no secret that some of Serif's biggest corporate clients are architecture firms.
The new generative fill and edit though has made me promptly download all the Adobe Creative cloud crap and download the new Adobe Photoshop Beta to try it out and, I might actually need to subscribe to Adobe just to use the generative fill feature.
Here is an example of a very quick and dirty editing in Photoshop Beta with AI of adding elements to a generated image. This is a game changer as it allows much quciker post-production with less time spent.
Needless to say, as many have already mentioned that this will quickly become an essential feature, so hoping it makes it in Affinity Photo in 2.x instead of waiting another 5 or more years when it will land in 3.x

This is a scenario where silence will hurt their business. Not the same.
This is less about 'new features' than it is 'catch up'.

The point is that it will become just as ubiquitous as the internet. It is already being embedded in OS, search, social media, all development tools etc. You might not use it explicitly, but you will use it indirectly without even knowing as it becomes the new base layer of all technology.
