  1. Here's a screenshot with Tennessee SF plus one with Casablanca .
  2. Just tried Tennessee SF. It's aok. I can upload a screenshot if you want. It would take me 15 mins or so as I'd play with typographic stuff.
  3. Sorry I should have mentioned. It's good ol' Times New Roman (default in DP X8). The three cyrilic lines are copied and pasted directly from BabelMap ie there is no other type inserted to support the cyrilic characters.
  4. I'm still not quite understanding. Here's a screenshot (In DP X8 as I'm currently working in it). Each line is in its own text frame. Edit: Ok, I'm getting the rectangles - but only with the Chinese characters. Everything else, so far is aok.
  5. For instance, to get cyrilic letter "Г" I have to flip latin letter "L". Can you not just copy and paste the required characters from BabelMap into your text? The characters can be resized, coloured, tracked/kerned, underlined, super/sub script, deleted etc just like the text they've been inserted into. Or am I missing something here?
  6. BabelMap has the cyrilic alphabet. It's free (donation optional). www.babelstone.co.uk/Software/BabelMap.html
  7. This is not what I wanted to read... Question - Is AD being developed for Illustrators only or Graphic Designers generally (including Illustrators)? I'm wanting to, along with numerous other members of this forum I expect, replace Adobe Illustrator with AD for graphic design purposes (not illustration) and that includes professional typography layout. AD's full feature list for typography is comprehensive https:/affinity.serif.com/en-gb/designer/full-feature-list/ Is there now a change in the road map?
  8. According to my font manager High-Logic Main Type 7 Adventurer Light/Black SF have single smart quotes available but not double.
  9. I guess I'm not explaining clearly. I'm fully aware where AppData is, and that it's not visible by default (as pointed out above) however there are Windows users who aren't aware. Typing %AppData% into Explorer takes one to AppData\Roaming. Others not familiar with the AppData folder will highly likely not be aware of the folders Local and LocalLow also residing there. I'm attempting to point out to others who aren't aware of, and where the AppData folder is, by 'travelling' the path manually IMO is an easier way to know where it is and to retain that information. In other words it's the difference between self-drive (manually travelling the path) and taking a cab (typing %AppData%). Also, with regard to AD's Crash folder location I couldn't retain in my mind, without retyping it several times, the command %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports...
  10. Agreed although it's quite useful to know the path manually to the AppData folder. After uninstalling an app there can be traces of it left in the Roaming or Local folders which reside in the AppData folder and can be deleted manually. The files/folders can be left there without concern however IMO it's part of Windows OS house keeping.
  11. Hi SprindigoJo. It's highly likely you'll need to upload the dump file (.dmp). You'll find that on your C Drive in Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports. 'user name' is highly likely to be you. The AppData folder won't be visible by default. In Windows Explorer, at the top left, click 'View' then toward the right side check (tick) 'Hidden Items'. Have you between the last beta and this one had a graphics card driver update? The reason I'm asking is I'm on an ASUS laptop (ROG G750JS) and had a crash issue with the last beta due to, I think, an NVIDA driver update. I was able to fix it by uninstalling the beta, cleaning out as many traces of it I could find then reinstalling. My issue had nothing to do with a tablet (I'm using a Bamboo) however it may be worth having a go (?).
  12. All good now :) Uninstalled as per usual Windows 10 'Programs and Features'. Deleted Affinity + Affinity Common folders from Affinity and Serif/ in both Program Files and AppData. Ran CCleaner to remove other traces. Fresh install of 1.5.0.15 One thing worth pointing out - My initial install of 1.5.0.15 (on top of 1.5.0.14) installed into Program Files/Serif/Affinity ...etc. I was quite surprised to see it there because didn't the install path change a couple of betas ago to Program Files/Affinity? The only thing in Program Files/Affinity was the Common folder. This fresh install is in Program Files/Affinity.
  13. Unfortunately not! The same restart notice pops up. Also, I switched graphics card to the Intel one...no go with that either. I'm going to re-install - clear out as many traces of the current install as possible beforehand. If there's a positive outcome I'll post back here.
  14. I'm getting 'Affinity Designer has been restarted after a serious error' every time I launch 1.5.0.15. I've not had this with any of the earlier betas nor with 1.5.0.15 since installing it until just recently. I had a NVIDIA (GTX 870M) graphics card driver update within the past 48 hours or so...I wonder? 23791994-bac6-42d0-8f1f-2c62d687b95f.dmp line_crash.afdesign
  15. MikeW's posts are facts. Period! I entered pro photography and pro photographic printing in the late 70's. In the mid(ish) 80's I took time out for a couple of years and worked in prepress to um, figure out why my images that took me many hours to create were 'smashed' by the offset printing process (part of my work at that time was technical / medical therefore calling for precise reproductions). So, I started looking at the world in terms of dots! (so to speak) ...and learned a truck load - all the way to our current digital stuff... The YouTube link I posted above nails it. Please take the time to look, listen and understand it. Oh: A really good book (although maybe only in libraries now) is 'Real World Scanning And Halftones' 2nd Ed ISBN 9780201696837 (1999) Edit: There is a 3rd version of Real World...
  16. This YouTube video clearly explains PPI vs DPI www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S2cnZ2QR70
  17. 0.10 slightly faster (between 7 and 8 sec) to load/open than 0.09, 0.08 and 0.06 (10 sec) but not as fast as 0.07, 0.05 and earlier (5 sec). Adobe CS6 apps load times remain consistent at 5 sec and ACDSee Canvas X 16 at sub 3 sec (between 2 to 3 sec). All timings based on tiles single click in Windows 10 Start. There's been no changes to my system during the beta series (fonts, apps other than the AP betas etc). Windows 10 anniversary update has not yet reached down under - thank goodness! :) ASUS ROG G750JS - i7-4700HQ - Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M - 16G RAM - Windows 10 (Designer installed on SSD)
  18. The point is 1.5.0.8 is slower than other apps to start (open) including earlier AD betas (except 1.5.0.6 for me as pointed out above). Right from the beginning the devs have said 'We don't do spinning balls' and that at a guess includes app starting times.
  19. Yes, 1.5.0.8 starts slowly for me as well - the same as 1.5.0.6 - about 10 seconds for both whereas 1.5.0.7, 1.5.0.5 and earlier were approx 5 seconds. In comparison both Illustrator and Photoshop (CS6) start in approx 5 secs. ACDSee Canvas X 16 starts in a jaw dropping sub 3 seconds! I have 871 fonts active - collection maintained by 'High Logic Main Type 7'. ASUS ROG G750JS - i7-4700HQ - Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M - 16G RAM - Windows 10 (Designer installed on SSD)
  20. Have a look here HRP. Cheers. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10815-in-house-affinity-designer-video-tutorials/
  21. All good. No install issues with 1.5.0.7. App launch time back down to 5 sec as per the first three betas (1.5.0.6 took twice as long to launch). ASUS ROG G750JS - Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M - 16G RAM - Windows 10 (Designer installed on SSD) http://www.earthporm.com/quokka-selfie/
  22. I can confirm that. No issues though with install including .NET. App slower to open now - aprox 10 seconds. Earlier betas aprox 5 seconds (PS CS6 is around 5 sec). ASUS ROG G750JS - Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M - 16G RAM - Windows 10 (Designer installed on SSD)
  23. Yeah, as mentioned I can understand why you'd want the initial layer created with a new document - you've explained it quite clearly. Equally there's no hardship in selecting the object layers (shift click if all of them) then right click - Group (or ctrl + G). For a new document I usually have the same document setup so... Ctrl + N then press enter (less than 5 seconds), select a tool and start creating. There's a lot going on in the layers panel that's not so obvious - I recall reading a thread with one of the mods or devs explaining nesting, clipping, child layers and such like. Hopefully one of the devs or mods will respond in depth.
