I know it’s not the correct label but I already had the graphic lying around from an experiment I did years ago.

Inspired by the vinyl record centre label posted on Sunday I thought I have a go at trying to create a reasonably-decent vinyl LP.
It’s not perfect by any means but it’s probably usable for most general one-off at-a-glance cases.
I haven’t measured anything so the proportions are probably a bit off but it’s just for fun.
(It looks a bit ‘smudgey’ at some viewing angles on my monitor so I don’t know how it will look for you.)

None of this (well almost none) belongs in the launch announcement thread and has been split, including @hifreds original post which was pertinent but was split to make this discussion/thread coherent.

@walt.farrellJust to confirm: I have read the announcement and clicked the Smart Object tickbox in Settings. I have also read the more cautious statement near the checkbox.
I imported two sample files with Smart Objects 1.8 could not handle altogether and there will likely be more. I also figured out that a simple Fill Layer from PS got rasterized...
For me as a customer who has bought all three products but doesn't use them it happened for the second time in relative short sequence that widely published marketing announcements were made, which simply aren't accurate.
Version 1.7x should bring a  performance breakthrough on Windows, but in reality the program still doesn't use the Video card and a lot of long standing performance-bottlenecks I experienced (and reported) remained in place. Now I got a victim of a clickbait again (I read the 'universal Smart Objects support' announcement in a German magazine) and I found out equally quickly, that statements made aren't accurate.
I am not criticizing the programmers, but rather the marketing department. On should be very cautious with announcements that don't hold water. It's just silly. The suite is a great success, one should not endanger the project with invalid promises.

It was only because the rest of the replies made more sense if your post was at the top. The rest did not belong there.
The problem comes when people post in the announcement thread about what the software cannot do that the thread gets sidetracked. It's not a rebuke at all, just a bit of house keeping.

Just to be sure, do you have the new option in Preferences, General enabled?

In any case, the feature will be useful to those who wanted to work on the Smart Objects in Affinity Photo. And I don't think the announcement said anything about being able to export PSD Smart Objects.

I do not consider my comment a bug report. I reported two completely unsupported forms of Smart Objects. Supporting embedded RAW in Smart Objects in my understanding is fundamentally incompatible with the way Affinity Photo works right now.

I have often used my flatbed scanner to directly create images of flat objects such as leaves, so I thought I would have a try with a slide scanner. When I retired, I was able to keep some of my computer hardware including a microscope slide holder for my Nikon LS50 slide scanner. I have been searching rather desultorily for a suitable subject to scan., The problem is that I have to first place the microscope slide in the holder, then add the subject, then a cover slip.  I cannot push a loaded slide into the holder.
I recently came across this subject. It was an old flower head from some composite plant with many pappuses (parachutes). I was able to detatch a few of these and immerse them in liquid and add to my slide with a coverslip. I used the top layer from a bottle of Dentyl mouthwash as a liquid medium as it wetted the pappus nicely. Post-processing comprised a bit of sharpening and a Levels adjustment.
After much trial and error I managed this.

It is hardly a fine photograph, more a proof of concept. I will keep hunting for a suitable subject. January is not the ideal time, but I hope to find a small skeletonized leaf.

    A couple more.

From the front drive, a scrap of moss. You can see the long awns on the 'leaves'

A scrap of Celeriac peeling from preparing lunch. You can see the cells. The dark lines are vascular bundles.

A post on Facebook prompted me to make this image. Tutorialmeister Carl Surry posted a link to this tutorial by Michael Wilson:
Here's my effort: and the figure

I started off in AP with a couple of stock images, the background by J C Gellidon from Unsplash and the figure by Radu Florin from Pexels. The 'portal' began as an ellipse; actually a circle which I deformed with the Perspective Tool to make it appear parallel to the shop fronts. The flare is a trapezium rotated onto its side. Some clipping, masking, gradients, transparency (in Designer) produced the lighting effect, and I added a pixel layer to paint a few highlights on the right-hand side.
    Here's the aphoto file: AlleyPortal-000bSMALL.afphoto

GDPR-365024 reacted to MEB in luminosity mask / selection from layer not working?
What's wrong with the help file is the shortcuts. To create a pixel selection from layer luminance press alt+cmd (on Mac) or alt + ctrl (on Windows) and click the pixel layer's thumbnail. The result is a pixel selection (based on luminance). If you then want to create a luminosity mask from it, press the Mask icon on the bottom of the Layers panel (step two in the Help file). The output is a new mask layer based on the previous created pixel selection which was based on layer's luminance (or a luminance mask if you prefer).
To clear this up: The help file is correct for the older 1.6 version. These shortcuts are however different in v1.7 (as explained in the paragraph above). I'm checking if this change was indeed intentional or if there's something wrong going on.

While I like everything you've posted so far Mark, Smoggy Dove is stunning ... that composite says more in one image than extensive essays I've seen from photogs working the same (similar) theme
Garry/Alfred Here's the link for the RE listing. It looks like a 21mm or maybe 24mm lens (FF camera) has been used with distortion corrected somewhat in, Adobe Camera Raw? The agent I noticed drives a rather new BMW (white ... of course!). Perhaps his repayment on that is so steep he can't afford competent compositers

I wanted to share with you my latest artwork: "Take Off". I was thinking about making an illustration inspired by Blade Runner for quite some time and finally, I decided to give it a try and here it is.

Still working on selections and cleaning them up. Need a bit more patience but getting there with the images. As a country boy, I'm used to seeing cicada exoskeletons on trees, benches, or wherever they decide to exit them. Cicadas live for years underground then burrow to the surface and burst out of his exoskeleton and flies away.
What's funny is when I see how some of my city friend react the first time they see one. I'm pretty sure they think they see something like this:

GDPR-365024 got a reaction from Old Bruce in Is there any reasoning behind the ordering of the Adjustments in Photo?
I don't use Designer so I wouldn't have a clue what filters if any it uses. I'm just going by what Gary says as quoted by Old Bruce above my post and that is 'consistent menus'

GDPR-365024 reacted to R C-R in Is there any reasoning behind the ordering of the Adjustments in Photo?
FWIW, Apple's developer guidelines have variously stated that functionally similar menu items should be grouped together & that the most frequently used items should be listed before less frequently used ones. Obviously, this only makes sense if there are obvious similarities among the items & general agreement on which items would most frequently be accessed from a menu that includes them vs. via a keyboard shortcut or some other method. This also means that even assuming this kind of listing makes sense, the preferred order could be different for drop-down menus than for pop-up or fly-out ones, so basically it is a crapshoot.
Alphabetical listings are not recommended because of the above & also because that would mean changing the list order for different language versions.
