Absar reacted to walt.farrell in Will Publisher be in the AppStore?
It's a trivial operation with the Affinity Store.
Sign in to the store with the email address and password you used to make the purchase. Download the latest update to the program. Install it. For family, copy to their computers (or sign-in to the Affinity Store from their computers), and install. I think I read that the Mac versions purchased from the Affinity Store will even ask if you want them to auto-update. For the WIndows version you get a notification of a new update, and a button to go to the website to download it, but installation is manual. Still, a simple process.
Note: If you want to get Publisher from the Mac App Store you should be able to request a refund of your pre-order. Email affinityreturns@serif.com and they should be able to arrange it. However, you won't be able to get the beta-tester discount an gift if you buy from the MAS, just the usual launch-time discount (20%).

    Good morning.
I downloaded Publisher from the website and payed. When I look in the Mac Appstore it still shows I can buy it...
In the future I want to be able to only use the AppStore. How would I do that?

You can duplicate the Artboard (Cmd + J) and it will keep the grid assigned. You will need to arrange the Artboards as they will be stacked on top of one another. Once arranged you can save it as a blank document, in effect a template of sorts, should you need to use this set up again.

Double-click in any text frame. Click the Font dropdown, then click the "Used" box to restrict the font list to those fonts that appear in the docunent. You'll see something like this, where any missing font has a ? in front of it:

Absar got a reaction from Interior Book Design in How about a "friendly studio"? (Custom Workspace)
    Hi,
I've already made this feature request in AD forum over a year ago. A customisable workspace is very important for individual work efficiency. For me being able to customise my workspace in the following way is important for I understand and believe the scientific facts behind it. ...

And, that image is from my MacBook Pro. I now mostly use a 5K iMac. Which means, as a right-handed person, keeping the Studio on the right and inadvertently keep leaving the mouse cursor on the right all the time feels even more inefficient, when I have to move the cursor all the way to the left to pick up something from the tool palette.
I have ditched Photoshop and Illustrator long ago and can't wait to replace InDesign for Publisher, and I hope my request makes sense to someone at Affinity and we get a customisable workspace option (for me with the ability to dock even the tool palette on the right).
    Thanks!

    Hey guys,

Just bought Affinity Photo and since there's no Opacity + Flow pressure sensitivity options, I've pulled a rabbit out of a hat and starting off with some tips from this thread I've made some brushes and thought of sharing them with the nice people on these forums. The last in the list I think are especially useful for paiting. Hope you'll like them.

    Hi guys!
I was working on some social media ads for a client and created a simple template for all major social media ad sizes including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat and Reddit.
This is a simple file with art boards for all your ad designs. It could come in handy next time you need to create a simple promo banner or ad for a client.

    Hi,

When I posted these remarks in a different thread, I was advised to post these requests here.

Currently AD and AP offer two kind of workspaces: Docked and Separated.

The Docked workspace neither allows docking the tool palette on the right side, nor does it allow multiple columns of palettes docked to each other.

The 'Separated Mode' does not remember the size of previously saved document on re-opening and every time the document title bar hides beneath the control palette. Then, the only way to access the title bar in order to maximise the window or minimise it in the dock, one must utilise 'Toggle UI' command.

The 'Separated Mode' also does not allow docking the 'Tools' palette to the Studio palettes, or multiple columns of Studio palettes docked to each other.

Besides the fact that I am used to setting up my workspaces this way for over a decade now, according to a research, it is also more efficient for right-handed people to keep palettes and tools on the right side.

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I’ve brought up a similar request before where I asked for different workspace modes, as I’m used to from Fireworks. For example you could have an expanded mode with all panels open or a collapsed mode with only the icons of the panels visible. And you could have your own custom modes with a custom amount and order of panels shown. And of course it saved the position of each. And you could switch between modes at any time.

    That would be ideal.

Absar reacted to retrograde in When is Affinity Designer going to add a SCISSORS tool?
I'm going to chime in here and say that I do miss a 1 click scissor type solution. (I don't use the knife tool in Ai but I do use the vector eraser a lot, but that's a different thread) :-)

Any time I have to go up to a menu when creating vector paths is extra work period, over the course of a complex illustration it adds up. (I do have join and break on a keyshort - didn't see a close curve keyshort option)

Why not add just add the ability to setup a modifier key like option or control with the node tool active to break a path? Bam, done.

Would like to see a bit of a re-visit on the join curve/close curve workflow...  not to mention that I still find the break, join and close curve tool shelf icons to be too similar. I still find myself hovering to confirm the right icon... personally I'd be fine with a join nodes tool, if I need to close a curve I'd either click the join nodes tool (or keyshort) on an open path or select each node and enact the join nodes tool... do we need both close and  join curves?

I guess taken in isolation yes sure these things do work as they are currently and I am able to get along alright, but multiply all of these extra clicks and mouse travel over a large project under a deadline and it becomes a thing ....rant over. :-)

    Hi Gatada,
Can you please press and hold ⌃(ctrl) while launching Designer then select Clear from the dialof that will open. This will reset Affinity and hopefully fix some of those issues.
If you still have trouble can you try the Beta instead. You can get it from here. Remember to keep the Mac App Store version installed since its needed to validate and run the Beta.
If you still experience crashes after this, let us know, so we can log and fix them.

The artboard's labels issue was already logged to be looked at.
    Thanks.

Absar reacted to ScottBriscoe in New Class on Perspective Drawing using Affinity Designer
    Hi All -

I have just posted my class: “Get Better at Perspective Drawing: Beginning with the Basics - using Affinity Designer” on SkillShare.com.

If you’re someone who has ever struggled with creating accurate perspective, or found it difficult to portray a strong sense of depth within your artwork, or have ever been bothered by the distorted shapes that often occur using standard perspective methods - I believe the insights, skills, and techniques shared in this class will be very helpful to you.

This class doesn’t focus on the isometric perspective grid that’s already available in Affinity Designer. Instead, I take an in depth look at how draw in actual 3D perspective and explain how to translate real world measurements and distances into your drawings.

That said, I take full advantage of the wonderful tools and features available within Affinity Designer to create efficient workflows while drawing in perspective.

SkillShare provides me an option that allows the first 25 class enrollees to take the class for free using this link: http://skl.sh/22xKNoQ

*Update: Sorry, the link above expired last week. Here's a new link with another 25 FREE enrollments:  http://skl.sh/1UHyOPr
*Update: Class link: http://skl.sh/1O2zp1G- The current offer is 3 months of Skillshare for 99 cents.

The class is a little over two hours long and provides a solid foundation for drawing better in perspective.

    Thanks,
