Adding further to MEB's Arrow Highlighting suggestion…

    1. Keep the un-selected layer arrow gray, as in version 1.3.5
    2. Change the arrow to white for selected layers
    3. Use white triangle + circle with the system highlight color, if inside layer hierarchy

This preserves the simplicity of the arrow while still being highly visible.

    Example attached

Oh My, I really get headaches from the color picker... :(

Why in the heck does it shows colors that aren't nowhere in the image? How should I sample exactly the one color at the end of a gradient fill of a bitmap?

Please, revamp the color picking functions across all the app... There are so many UX glitches here and there (for example concurrent pickers on various windows and dialogs) that makes working with this tool really unpleasant :(

It does look like PDF export is badly broken, I'm afraid. It's not getting its colour profiles right. As a result it either uses a default CMYK profile (even if you are trying to export to RGB), or else (for PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4) it just crashes. Either way isn't really usable. If you are crashing, then CTRL+runup with Clear User Defaults checked will reset the dialog so it doesn't open on the PDF page so you can at least export as something else. You can still output a PDF by using File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF..., albeit without any of the new features.

I'm very sorry about this. We'll get it fixed in the next update.

Are you planing to fix the Colour Picker at some point or give it a shortcut?? This is ridiculous! I bought this software months ago and still cannot use it! I'm stuck with Adobe because it allows me to work fast!

Why don't you fix what's most important first? It's a colour picker! The most frequently used tool! My eyes hurt and my hand hurts from using it!

I'm a bit frustrated at this point.

MBd, I just stumbled upon this: https://imageoptim.com/color-profiles.html

Based on this article, I proceeded as follows: in Affinity Photo I used Document > Convert ICC Profile... and instead of "Adobe RGB (1998)" I chose "sRGB IEC61966-2.1". After exporting a PNG without ICC profile embedded, the exported result is "close enough" to what I see in Affinity Photo. So that works for me for now!

    Hi Lojza,
We are aware of those limitations.
The Export Persona will be revamped later to offer more flexibility/options along with Live previews.

Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes
    Status: Beta
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Notable changes:
    - New Panorama Persona - available from File -> New Panorama.
    - 5 new Photos extensions - Miniaturise, Monochrome, Liquify, Develop and Dehaze - 400% rendering performance improvement in most common situations. - Global colours. - Full support for P3 panels found in the new 5k iMac and 4k iMac. If you have one of these you can try making a new RGB8 document with ProPhoto profile and choosing RGB(255,0,0) or RGB(0,255,0) as the colour of your objects - they should look richer and more vivid than you are used to seeing.
    - View points added to the Navigator. The Navigator has an advanced mode that lets you choose to create and swap between specific view zoom/position saved points.
    - Font fixes. Specifically, a number of font-related crashes have been addressed
    - Export/Import improvements - particularly PDF.
    - Fix for Text tool failing to accept certain characters (those that were mapped to other shortcuts!)
    - Snapping improved for Rotation Centre. Rotation Centre is available from the Move Tool's context toolbar.
    - Pantone/named colour/tint improvements. Selecting an object which has a Pantone colour will automatically choose the tint options in the colour panel.
    - Canvas rotation. The canvas can be rotated by using the touchpad's rotate gesture or by using the View menu items 'Rotate Left', 'Rotate Right' or 'Reset Rotation'.
    - Fix for colour conversion issues exhibited with HSL colours in RGB document formats.
    - Character & Paragraph panel improvements.
    - Typography panel show visually the effects of different OpenType features. Select some text and go to the Typography panel - this will show you the available options for your current font and text selection. Try changing fonts for more options.
    - Printer’s marks and bleed available for output. The export options for PDF now include these additional options, as does the Print dialog.
    - Smart Tap feature. Toggle between the current zoom and 100% by double-tapping with two fingers on the trackpad. This is useful for designing up close and being able to easily refer to a 100% view and then back again.
    - Updated splash screens. These are necessary as we need to include Pantone licensing information.
    - Added Split-toning adjustment. This is available from the Layers panel's adjustments menu and the main Layers->Adjustments menu.
    - Improvements to deform filter - you can now select and manipulate multiple pins at once.

Lojza, I just tried copying and pasting ĚÊ from your post into the current Photo beta and both displayed correctly. This also worked with the Mac App Store version. I was using Arial. Perhaps there is an issue specific to a particular font?

Hi, I'd like to ask for two enhancements of Perspective Tool:

    1) Now, when using Perspective Tool on an image, the image gets rasterized first and then the perspective adjustments can be applied. This has a nasty side effect: rasterized images are cropped according to current canvas. If the original placed image is bigger than the canvas, it gets cropped no matter that the result perspective transformation would fit on the canvas. So it would be much more usable, if the image won't get cropped and the Perspective Tool would work "outside" the canvas.

    2) I'm not sure about what resampling algorithm Perspective Tool uses, but it produces unsatisfactory results by now. See attached screenshots. First is an original iPhone screenshot, which I'd like to place into a mockup. The second is the result after Perspective adjustment. The result is not "smooth", but rather too sharp, no antialiasing used... Straight solid lines are not transformed into "light grey antialiased lines" (or how to name it), but rather into sharp black dashed lines...  It seems like "nearest neighbor" is used for the Perspective transform. Would it be possible to use either bicubic or bilinear algorithms for these transforms? This also applies to Mesh Warp Tool.

    Thanks for considering!

A tiny observation … “Lock children” still has to be localised in the German version … I am already curious what you will come up with … “Kinder (ein)sperren” sounds a bit like Hänsel & Gretel … LOL …  ;)

Thanks for the "Lock Children" options. No more moving them outside the clipping shape and then back again :)

But a modifier key would be much more helpful for this. What if holding Alt with the Move tool would lock the children for the time of moving/resizing (no matter of what the status of the checkbox is)?

    Thanks for considering ;)

Wow … apart from Pantone support, this one is highly appreciated …

The Move Tool can now be told to move an object, but not children of that object: It’s an option on the context toolbar and will only show up if you have a non-group object selected which has children (a curve which clips a number of other curves, for example).

    … did I say “appreciated”? No, it’s fantastic …  :D

Lojza reacted to A_B_C in AFP Tools: Constrain Brush Movement, Clone Selections with Option + Arrow Keys
    Hi there,

I know these two things have been requested in the past, but let me just ask again if you consider to put them on the improvements list …
At first, what I really (I mean, really) miss, is the option to constrain the brush movement to horizontal or vertical direction by holding down the Shift key. This option is so handy for creating a quick fade on an image edge, for example, and I don’t think that it interferes with the current UI / shortcut logic. Secondly, what I miss as well, is the option to create a selection using a rectangular marquee, and clone this selection using the arrow keys while holding the Option key. I don’t think this option would interfere with the current UI / shortcut logic as well. Please consider to implement these two options … it’s somewhat strange that effective workflows just hinge on such little things, but nevertheless …

    Cheers, Alex  :)

Lojza reacted to Dave Harris in AD: Keyboard shortuct to edit selected text
You're right: using the Layers tab also sets this mode, even if the Text tool is active. I hadn't been aware of that, and I doubt it's intentional. I'll have a look at changing it.

You're also right about the Move tool, but that is intentional. The Move tool is so that you can move objects without accidentally selecting text in them, or making a new object or changing nodes. The Text tools are the only tools that create and edit text.

Hitting T usually does show the text caret. If it doesn't, it usually means you hit Escape previously (or used the Layers tab to select, which as I say I'll look into changing).

After unsuccessfully trying to replicate a chrome layer style in Designer I was about to give up and chalk this up to Designer just doesn't have the goods, BUT IT DOES! After studying the differences in both apps, I saw that a layer style in PS is going to be created differently in AP or AD. I studied why I wasn't getting the chromey effect in AD, I realized that PS has a gloss contour built into their bevel panel, and AD doesn't so I was stumped a while. Soon realized that gloss contour is almost the same or same as a curves adjustment so after tinkering more I came up with this cool chrome CUSTOM effect! AFFINITY ROCKS!!!
