I'm struggling with the same issue, but only when switching from MacBook screen to external display and vice versa. AD/AP need to be restarted in my case in order to have the checkboxes placed correctly besides the scrollbar, not behind it. A fix could be very useful...

Lojza got a reaction from BatteriesInc in Resizing with Shift - inconsistency
    Thanks for the rationale.

I still tend to disagree, though. When you select two elements with natural aspect ratio - like two texts - according to mentioned logic, both texts should resize proportionally. But they're considered a group and resizing is non-proportinal.

Moreover, it's hard to make such mental exercise continuously. For example, if I draw perfect circle holding Shift, I would consider it furher as a circle with "natural" aspect ratio 1:1. Yet it behaves like a shape without constant proportions.

Reverse example: if I resize artistic text horizontally or vertically alone, I wouldn't consider it "naturally" proportional further on. But it still keeps its distorted proportions when resizing with the corner point...

Hence I would prefer same sizing behavior for all elements, regardless of what they are.

Lojza got a reaction from Philipwhand in Resizing with Shift - inconsistency
    1) When resizing single element, proportions are preserved by default and Shift works as a modifier to change proportions.

    2) When resizing multiple selected elements, proportions are NOT preserved. Shift works as a modifier to preserve proportions.

This feels like inconsistency and it makes learning AD harder. I would prefer behavior described in 1) as default for all resizing. Thanks for considering ;)

There wasn't an "official" announcement yet, just a few sneak peeks...

scrollbars on layers are also so irritating..

please watch following video i uploaded on youtube.
    https://youtu.be/Nej6vH_zlWs

I added many layers, now when I scroll them up or down, a scrollbar appears on layers and that takes a second to hide. that also causes interruption what layer we needed to click. because one accident click on scrollbar will move/scroll layers upwards or downwards.

I have reported about these before. It happen both while selected 'Scale with Object' or not selected.
Have to adjust the pasted values every times if the objects have different sizes. Hope they fix soon.

An easy example please try my file.

I have new created 2 shapes with different kinds and sizes and not be scaled up or down.
Just add an effect to the left one and try to paste the effect to the right one, then you will see the random values.

It seems that in both AD and AP is the same bug when copy/pasting layer effects: the fx parameters seem to somehow reflect target layer size (be it a shape or a pixel layer). So when for example an outer shadow of 22px blur, 30px distance is pasted onto a different layer, it gets pasted with 102,4px blur and 0px distance...

I haven't tried this with other effects.

Is this a bug or is there any "logic" behind this that I can't see?

    Thanks!

When I drag to move a symbol instance, the position of the pixel layer in the symbol is broken.

macOS 10.12.2 Affinity Designer 1.5.4 & 1.5.5 beta 1   Steps to Reproduce:  import PSD that has pixel layer. create symbol (include pixel layer). create symbol instance. move the instance by drag. Workaround:
Rerasterize all pixel layers in the symbol.

Lojza got a reaction from 00Ghz in Two UX/UI issues with switching document tabs
    Hi all,

there are two rather unpleasant issues with AD's document tabs behaviour:

    1) when an embedded document (i.e. a SVG) gets open in a separate tab and then adjusted and closed, focus is given to the nearest tab, instead of being returned the original document, from which the embedded document was previously opened. That is quite unintuitive and leads to more searching and clicking on the document tabs.

    2) if there is a lot of layers / groups / elements in the Layers pane and the document loses focus (i.e. user switches to different document tab) then after getting back to the original document, Layers pane shows the top layers, i.e. is scrolled to the top, instead of keeping its previous content's position. That's a little bit annoying because it often requires to scroll way back down to the layers / groups user was working with. In huge documents (one of mine contains 280 groups for instance) it's quite a chore.

Thanks for considering a fix ;)

OK, I tried to make one myself.

Feel free to use, elaborate, adjust, post a better version ;) Also I don't think I managed to create the best AD material icon out there ;)

Please note that this is 400% (192pt) size. For basic material stroke, you shoud use 8pt width, square caps.

Hi, there seems to be some weird issue with thick dashed strokes in certain situations. Following video shows this at rounded rectangle. When changing rectangle's roundness, the stroke creates some unwanted residues.

Would it be possible to address this in some future updates?

Perhaps a related issue with AD on Mac: currently, it's only possible to drag/drop files from Finder to currently active document.
it would be nice, if an image dragged from Finder would activate desired document by hovering over its tab, so it can be placed inside of any open document.

    Thanks for considering ;)

    Hi all,

please, does anyone have a material icon design template to share, natively made in Designer?

Some reference shapes / grid like on the first image here: https://material.io/guidelines/style/icons.html#with proper sizes, etc.

I'll need such a guide in a few days so any would be greatly appreciated ;)

    Squeaky wheel here...

Busenitz, I don't see this as a feature, I see this as a one of the basic cornerstones of a vector app's toolset... especially one that is as cutting edge, innovative and industry leading as Designer is.

...would really love to see some of these core and fundamental aspects nailed before adding "x" features and/or export/compatibility functions/workflow/you name it, etc... It's these "little" things that you do hundreds of times over the course of a piece that need to be solid. They're not sexy, they're not buzz worthy, they don't make for compelling video teasers but they are absolutely essential!  :-)

If some of the core structure needs addressing or rewriting as suggested above, in order to make some of this possible, I would think sooner rather than later is the easier course to follow. No?

I believe Serif needs to fine-tune that ambigious beta expiration message. This topic is raised in the forum multiple times after every single MAS release. Lots of frustration could potentially be spared with a more accurate message.

Lojza got a reaction from brunzenstein in metro line / tube map anyone?
Hi brunzenstein, welcome to the Affinity forums!

The metro map is quite simple to design. Just draw curves (use the Pen tool) for the tube lines (snapping to grid may help to keep the curves straight). Then set the stroke width so that the line is thick enough.

The rest is basic shapes (ellipses, rounded rectangles, artistic texts). See the attached example.

If you have experience from Illustrator or any other vector drawing tool, you should be good to go. If you still feel like stuck, I'd recommend to watch some of the great Affinity Designer tutorials here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10815-in-house-affinity-designer-video-tutorials/

    Good luck! ;)

Lojza reacted to Ravetracer in Resizing selection by multiple handles
What I'm really missing in modern image editors is the ability to resize the selection by handles of the bounding box of the selection.
Have a look at GIMP: https://docs.gimp.org/2.8/en/gimp-using-selections.html

This is a very, very useful feature which I was using very often to refine the selection size on the pixel level. It would be nice to have this in AP too.

Sorry, if I'm missing something, but is there a way, how to duplicate an existing slice in the Export Persona?

There's so many things that may be defined within a slice, so duplication would really speed things up...

    Thanks for info :)
