The options work correctly, and as expected, for me.
It sounds like you would be happier with option 2 or 3, though, as they are the ones that will give you consistent results without you having to figure out how option 1 works. It is not "do whatever you want". It is:
constrain if the selection has an inherent aspect ratio, do not constrain if it doesn't, except if you press Shift, reverse this behavior. So, if you choose option 1 (which is, I think, the default), then you need to understand which selections have inherent aspect ratios, and which don't, in order to know whether you want to press Shift or not.
If you're getting inconsistent behavior and you have that option chosen, then you probably don't understand the logic. But it's there, and in my experience it does work.
But rather than fighting with it, just pick option 2 or 3 instead.

OK, I tried to make one myself.

Feel free to use, elaborate, adjust, post a better version ;) Also I don't think I managed to create the best AD material icon out there ;)

Please note that this is 400% (192pt) size. For basic material stroke, you shoud use 8pt width, square caps.

Many thanks for your continued patience and understanding here, unfortunately our developers have tried to recover this file, however it appears as though the data has been lost/corrupted by Google Drive.
We suspect this has happened in the process of either uploading or downloading from Google Drive. Do you still have a copy stored here? We've found previously that downloading files through the Google Drive app occasionally corrupts files, however we've seen better results when downloading them directly from the Web interface. If you still have a copy stored online, could you try this for me?

Lojza reacted to Dan C in Failed to open an older .afdesign document
My sincerest apologies for the delay here, there's unfortunately been no developer update with this file as of yet, I'll bump the report again for you now.
This is a bug our developers are aware of and has been caused by allowing Linked not Embedded resources in Publisher, meaning a global change was required for the suite - however certain files made before 1.7 exhibit this behaviour when opening a file with Embedded content - meaning even if the documents had been updated externally, this would have no effect in your document. We hope to have this fixed ASAP!

Lojza got a reaction from AffinityMike in Affinity Photo: How to elegantly erase unwanted colors?
Thanks, UncleMonkey. I also recently came to a simple and functional solution. (This official tutorial led me to that thought:

    - use Levels or Curves
    - change color space to CMYK (for that adjustment)
    - set Black Level to 100% for Cyan, Magenta and especially Yellow (for Levels) or drag down teh end point of Cyan, Magenta and Yelow curve (for Curves)

I guess, this might be quite a universal attitude for different and more colourful images...

+1 for @VIPStephan's answer  Of course a more automated version would be welcome, but I'm quite sure we humans can still use some reasoning
    also
+1 for @Lojza's suggestion that the Beta doesn't expire. It's a big inconvenience moving settings between MAS and Beta Versions; which makes it inevitable that at some point every single beta tester will eventually "retire". And not because of the rough edges, or that he/she wants to stop testing out the software and give feedback: But because there is unnecessary overhead in maintaining the beta-tester status!

    Status: Beta Release
    Purpose: New features, fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

This is the sixth beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Thanks,

Just a small bug: Paste Style (Cmd+Shift+V) does not work in certain cases. The one I spotted is when there's a stroke applied on an image object and then the image style is being applied onto another image object. The stroke style isn't copied to the target.

Feature request: Option to define the default interpolation method
Even in Beta 1.6.4 (Beta 4) I'm still missing a very basic option in the settings: the ability to define the default interpolation method, or at least, it would be fine if AF would remember the last selected method. Currently the default one is always "Biliniear", which may not be the desired one in most cases.

When resizing an object with Shift pressed (= constrain proportions) all works OK (in Settings, "Do not constrain by default" is set).
But when pressing Cmd at the same time (in order to resize around the center), then Shift / proportions constrain stops to work and object resizes unproportionally.

This applies for both AP and AD 1.6 beta. It works perfectly with MAS 1.5 versions.

Please, look into it ;) Thanks!

Use the Mesh Warp tool (AP).
Drop in a vertical centerline, move the side/corner points in and play with the handles (of all points, including the center).
There is no symmetry snapping while using the tool, so it's still not going to be perfect. Use some guides (which I didn't) and eyeball it. Should be fine.

    Original

    Curved
(quick and dirty... and I used bilateral resample method. Bicubic should be better)(...added a bit of shading too ;) )

Edit: Come to think of it, you probably don't need the centerline at all... (even if it does give you two more points of control).
This one was done using just the four corners. Horizontal handles shortened and moved straight up and down.

Sadly there is no cylindrical distort filter so mesh as detailed above is the only option. Pity because it's rather fiddly and tedious. I find this strange because there is a spherical warp filter and a cylindrical warp is the same geometry applied to a single axis. I put in a feature request long ago to have this added to the spherical warp filter. No idea if anyone has taken it seriously. From a totally ignorant armchair view I can't believe it would be hard to code. Keeping my fingers crossed for next release.

Couple of smallish things happening consistently for me. Sorry if this has already been brought up...

    - Upon launching AP 1.6 beta 1 or opening an existing file in AP 1.6 beta 1, usual I want to centre up the window and hitting space bar doesn't immediately invoke the hand icon to move or pan the view. It remains the black arrow. It does work though (it does pan the view) but the icon doesn't show up until I invoke it for the second or sometimes third time.

    - closing the file. More often then not I get into a close and save loop... I have a file, I hit command w to close it, a pop up asks if I want to save the file, I click okay, I again hit command w to close the file, another pop up asks if I want to save the file... etc.... this is happening with all types of files, ie: jpegs, png, tifs etc...

    Anyone having similar issues?

Thanks Matt, I really appreciate your positive attitude :)

In fact, I'm not used to Illustrator at all, neither other drawing apps except for Photoshop. Being rather UX than UI designer, I use prototyping tools more often (like Axure, for instance). So my point does not come from rather irrational "I am used to", but just from quite rational conviction that the same things should be achieved the same way. No more, no less.

Anyway, preference option, that would resolve this sometimes in the future, would be totally brilliant! :)

Lojza got a reaction from BatteriesInc in Resizing with Shift - inconsistency
    Thanks for the rationale.

I still tend to disagree, though. When you select two elements with natural aspect ratio - like two texts - according to mentioned logic, both texts should resize proportionally. But they're considered a group and resizing is non-proportinal.

Moreover, it's hard to make such mental exercise continuously. For example, if I draw perfect circle holding Shift, I would consider it furher as a circle with "natural" aspect ratio 1:1. Yet it behaves like a shape without constant proportions.

Reverse example: if I resize artistic text horizontally or vertically alone, I wouldn't consider it "naturally" proportional further on. But it still keeps its distorted proportions when resizing with the corner point...

Hence I would prefer same sizing behavior for all elements, regardless of what they are.
