Hi Meb, here is the attachment. I've also included the original image... Perspective distort.afphoto

Hi Meb, No, I use "Nearest neighbour" for view quality. Yet changing this to Bilinear has no effect on Perspective tool outputs. Resulting perspective adjustment is still "nearest-neighbourish". (To be honest, I second this behavior. If view quality setting would affect tools behaviour, that would be very confusing to me... It would be like if View mode in Designer (retina, pixel, vector...) would affect document resolution or something...)

Hi, I'd like to ask for two enhancements of Perspective Tool: 1) Now, when using Perspective Tool on an image, the image gets rasterized first and then the perspective adjustments can be applied. This has a nasty side effect: rasterized images are cropped according to current canvas. If the original placed image is bigger than the canvas, it gets cropped no matter that the result perspective transformation would fit on the canvas. So it would be much more usable, if the image won't get cropped and the Perspective Tool would work "outside" the canvas. 2) I'm not sure about what resampling algorithm Perspective Tool uses, but it produces unsatisfactory results by now. See attached screenshots. First is an original iPhone screenshot, which I'd like to place into a mockup. The second is the result after Perspective adjustment. The result is not "smooth", but rather too sharp, no antialiasing used... Straight solid lines are not transformed into "light grey antialiased lines" (or how to name it), but rather into sharp black dashed lines... It seems like "nearest neighbor" is used for the Perspective transform. Would it be possible to use either bicubic or bilinear algorithms for these transforms? This also applies to Mesh Warp Tool. Thanks for considering!

Hi, In the latest beta, there is a bug when writing Central European characters with diacritics, like Á, Ů or Ž. When writing upper case letters, the diacritics needs to be typed in advance - ( ' / ° / ˇ ) - then the appropriate letter has to be typed with Shift. This leads to the diacritics being applied at least three times - the original sign ( ' / ° / ˇ ) stays there, then the correct letter is written and then the sign is either applied on the next character, if possible, or at least stays there. If one continues to hold Shift and type the uppercase letter again, the diacritics sign is being applied on all the letters. See this screen capture: https://youtu.be/EkJIeesM0VM This also applies for Frame text tool and both tools in Affinity Photo Beta. Thank you for looking into it :)

Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.3.5.4)
Lojza replied to MattP's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Thanks for the "Lock Children" options. No more moving them outside the clipping shape and then back again :) But a modifier key would be much more helpful for this. What if holding Alt with the Move tool would lock the children for the time of moving/resizing (no matter of what the status of the checkbox is)? Thanks for considering ;) -
Keyboard shortcuts not saved
Lojza replied to Lojza's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
Thank you, Andrew. Looking forward to the next betas ;) -
Hi, This is strange, but it seems to me that custom keyboard shortucts won't preserve in the application and won't even restore when saved to file and then loaded again. I've set all the brushes' increase and decrease shortcuts to "ú" and ")" (the "[" and "]" keys on my CZ keyboard), but the settings won't last until next Affinity Photo restart. Also when saved to file, the shortcuts won't load when the file is selected after the restart. Any idea why this would happen? Thanks.

Callout Tool - free tail movement / placement
Lojza replied to Lojza's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Hi Paul, thanks for reminding me of this. I like to work with the original shapes, in non-destructive manner, but, yeah, converting to curves may be OK with callouts as they are quite well editable using the nodes (contrary to stars for example)... -
Hi, I just started using the Callout shape tools and realized they are both limited regarding tail placement. Simply, it is not possible to create small callout and drag the tail "outside" the box. Would it be, please, possible to enhance these tools in order to achieve tail placement independent somehow from the "bubble" size / placement? Thanks for considering ;)

It's been almost a quarter, so I would like to boost this topic again a little :) Would it be possible to implement this in some of the nearest betas? Simply 2 things: - add a switch in Settings for specifying whether the first or the last selected object should be the Target Object - add a "Target Object" option in the "Align to" drop down on the alignment fly-out (with according behavior, of course) What hevonen said in July should be a natural outcome of that. Target object would be the reference for top, bottom, left and right sides and also for the middle (vertically) and center (horizontally). Thank you!

Oh guys, these keyboard shortcuts really drive me mad. Please, pretty, pretty please with sugar on top, implement at least following in the next beta: when an artistic text is selected (no matter which way), the "T" shortcut (or "Shift+T" or "F2" or whatever else if you insist on "T" should cycle between tools) shows the carret and starts editing no matter what tool is active at the moment when an artistic text editing is finished and user hits escape, the tool that was active before the editing started, should become active again when an artistic text editing is finished and user clicks outside the text boundaries, the tool that was active before the editing started, should become active again and NO NEW artistic text editing should be initiated I'll try to explain, why current behavior is mighty frustrating for me. Mental / work flow one: Several artistic text elements are placed on canvas. Move tool is active, I'm adjusting the layout of the text boxes. One of the text needs editing - the fastest way is double click, carret appears. Text is being edited, then I hit ESC. Now the previously active Move tool is unexpectedly gone, I can't continue layout work unless hitting "V". Mental / work flow two: Several artistic text elements are placed on canvas. Move tool is active, I'm adjusting the layout of the text boxes. One of the text needs editing - the fastest way is double click, carret appears. Text is being edited, then I click outside the box to finish editing. Now the next artistic text is created and carret appears. I have to hit ESC and then "V" to get back to the expected (previous) state. When those flows get combined with the fact that some artistic text elements are hard to select with mouse click (it happens quite often when I click between the characters), editing simple infographic becomes a total pain... Please let me know should I move this to feature requests.

Hi Dave, thanks for your response. The text in the selected, but not editable state is not only when I hit Escape after edit (by the way, is there another way how to end editing on with keyboard?), but whenever I select the text with the "V" tool or selecting the object in Layers pane. I guess I'm happy with how Escape works. But still I don't understand the rationale behind why hitting "T" on the text object won't show the caret and start editing. It seems like Designer does not actually respond to keystrokes, but rather to tool change. I understand that hitting "V" twice shouldn't start editing the text (only text tool should become active), but when considering hitting "T" instead of "V", this could quite easily bring the caret and start editing without losing the possibility to use "V" instead... I hope I'm clear ;) Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the release with customizable key shortcuts. Hitting F2 or simply Enter to start editing the text would resolve all the issues for me ;)

Wow! Tipping my hat, Sir! Thanks for sharing. I wonder how you could know the "gloss contour is almost the same or same as a curves adjustment"... Just brilliant!

Hi, In previous verisons of Designer, it was possible to select a text object and press "T" to start editing. Now, the "T" shortcut cycles betweent Artistic Text and Frame Text tools but does not start editing. Am I missign something? Is there still a possibility to trigger text editing via a key or key combination? So far, the only remaining option is double click on the selected text object. Thanks for help :)

Hi, I'm so enthusiastic about Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo (both bought and watched over their beta versions for more than half a year...). I also found that Serif offers PhotoStack for photo management, but this app seems a little bit "outdated". So, are there any plans to revive PhotoStack and make it more Affinity-like and Affinity compatible? The background is I'm looking for a decent photo manager, that would go well with Affinity Photo and that would completely replace Photos by Apple, which I consider a really weak app. Thank you.

Hi, I often design some assets for mobile apps and I usually encounter this problem. At design time, I'm used to use the "Erase" mode for some shapes (using compound shapes and/or cutting the underlaying shapes does not work in cases I need to use gradient fills or colored strokes). During export to vector formats, these "Erase" effects get rasterized, which is not what I need for the mobile app assets. In the end, I have to make copies of all the designs and "flatten" them manually, which is really slow and tedious process... I have to expand all strokes, convert many shapes to curves and make boolean cuts them with the "Erase" shapes over them. So, would it be possible to either support vectorized output of the "Erase" effect, or at least add some automated flattening procedure for layers / groups? Thanks for considering. This would be a huge time saver in my work flow :)

I would suggest following implementation, if appropriate: 1) first selected shape is the reference shape (maybe it would be good to have a preference option, whether it should be the first or the last shape chosen - I believe different users will have different preferences on this). 2) Alt+Cmd+L would align all shapes' left sides to the left side of the reference shape. 3) Alt+Cmd+R would do the same for right sides, Alt+Cmd+T for top sides and Alt+Cmd+B for the bottom sides. 4) There should also be a shortcut for vertical and horizontal distribution (Alt+Cmd+?..) 5) All of these commands should also be available from the alignment toolbar, of course. I wouldn't mind if this was the only behavior of alignment tools. To be honest, I personally can't find an use case, where I would need alignment within selection bounds...

When changing frame text with its "special" handle that changes also text size, the frame text does not respect the aspect constraint settings. "Move Tool Aspect Constrain" is set to "Do not constrain by default". All the elements (images, shapes, artistic text...) resize freely until modifier key is pressed. Frame text behaves quite the opposite - resizes itself with constraint preserved until modifier key is pressed - then it's resizing freely.

Allan, thanks for pointing me to the "Select sampled colour..." function. I haven't known about it and it seems very useful! But I still can't get my hands on the "refine edge" with "new layer with mask" option. I can follow your steps, no problem, but I have no idea, how to generalize your steps in order to use it in my usual workflows... Well, long way to go before me :) MEB, thank you! As I am not much used to work with channels, this was nice discovery for me! I didn't know there was the possibility to create layers from channels. This seems to me really simple...

Hi all, Maybe a lame question, but I'm lost... I have this image (attached). I would like to get rid of the yellow spots. And later obtain only black letters on transparent background. How to do it in most elegant way? I was trying the "Erase White Paper" filter, which works great to get the transparent background, but it leaves the yellow spots untouched. I was also trying flood fill on the yellow spots, but it leaves some pixels still there... I was used to use "Replace color" in Photoshop, but I can't find a corresponding tool in Affinity Photo... Thanks for any tips.

Unwanted rasterize in exported PDF
Lojza replied to Lojza's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
OK, I understand there are PDF limitations, that's probably something we have to live with... But would it be possible to do some (optional) kind of "vector flattening" on the background before export? I mean, perform expand stroke, layer merging, boolean subtract with "erase" mode and then export plain curves..? -
When exporting to PDF, some content gets rasterized (which is not desired). Please, see the attached afdesign file - when exporting to PDF, the result is 25 x 25 px raster. Also, in this file, selection cannot be exported at all. If you select some of the curves (fishes) and export as "Selection without background", the resulting PDF seems to contain no curves, neither raster. Another bug seems to be here with the "Erase" rectangle - if this rectangle is selected along with other curves (fishes), it gets exported ("Selection without background") as standard, visible rectangle (without the "Erase" style). I'm not sure I can identify the real "culprit" - whether is it the "container" rectangle, or the "Erase" rectangle, but the fact is that without further editing, flattening and applying boolean operations, this icon is not exportable properly to PDF. reasterized_export.afdesign

Shift - option Inconsistency
Lojza replied to 00Ghz's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Thanks for the option! It works like a charm! :) The idea behind natural aspect ratio is nice, but it didn't worked for me. The more I do complex designs, the less I'm able to think about what kind of object I'm resizing. After months of working with AD, I still haven't learnt when to use Shift and when not. User option is a perfect solution. Thanks again.
