Claudia_Germany reacted to tudor in Total Disregard for the Printing Industry
Let me translate this to designers: no matter what software you use (Adobe, Affinity, whatever), if you're doing print stuff, do not send source files to the printers. They will find any reason to charge you fees for anything they don't like. Instead, learn how to prepare a proper print-ready PDF. Talk to your printer about this. If they don't accept PDFs then find a printer from the 21st century.
If you've used Adobe apps for 40 years, learn the differences between their apps and Affinity's. Don't just assume that everything must work the same. For example:
In Affinity overprinting is applied to global colors, not on individual fills and strokes. You have to adjust your workflow if you do overprinting. "Need to pull down menus to change stroke weights and type sizes" – The shortcuts for changing the stroke width are the square brackets [ ]. The shortcuts for changing the font size are the same like in Adobe apps. Learn the software if you want to use it. "non-printable layers for die cut rules" - This is important only if you output files directly from the source application. But for a PDF-based workflow, just make a spot color and name it "dieline" or "FPO" (for position only).

I too appreciate the Affinity products, the response I had when I’ve had questions, and the learning opportunities you have provided. They have all been great. I enjoy using your products very much.

Affinity is truly one of the best software I have ever used.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Twolane in My Feedback: THANK YOU
I heartily agree with all. This software is amazing. I've had it for two years now, and I wouldn't be without it. I've moved on to v2, and it is fantastic. It more than meets my needs.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Pyanepsion in My Feedback: THANK YOU
I was also apprehensive about re-setting the workspace. The setup was actually relatively quick, as I had prepared it on version 1 (colour palette, keyboard shortcut, paragraph and character style palette). The brushes and content had all been installed when I installed version 2.
I'm on my third book with version 2, including a travel guide with several hundred images and lots of notes. The work is much faster and better than with version 1. Even better, copying the final text into Word from Affinity Publisher to make a digital book with Jutoh is much easier than with version 1.

Claudia_Germany reacted to md_germany in My Feedback: THANK YOU
Dear Affinity Team,
At the beginning I was a bit disappointed by Affinity Suite 2.0, as everyone expected the implementation of their personal wishes. The changeover was not entirely smooth either, I had to make some presettings by hand and my workspace had completely disappeared. But: I created the first brochure and other things in versions 2.0 on the Mac and am thrilled by many functions, some of which are not documented at all. So a big THANK YOU for the great work and the good price. Keep it up!

Claudia_Germany reacted to md_germany in Float View to Window
Hello,
I have always worked (since Quark) in „Float View to Window” and have the Context Toolbar below. That works fine in 1.…
But in version 2 the application framework always remains and the Toolbar and Context Toolbar always stick on top.
Furthermore Studio Presets cannot be taken over from version 1.
i hope i can work like this again soon

Claudia_Germany reacted to thomaso in Float View to Window
Unfortunately, Toolbar & Context Toolbar can no longer be separated in V2.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Ldina in No backwards compatibility??
Thanks, Callum. At least there should be a SAVE AS with a v1.x.x option, with appropriate warnings. Perhaps that's not easy or possible. If my edits in v2 don't use any features that aren't supported in v1.10.5, I should still be able to open the file I originally created in v1. Backwards compatibility is particularly important until the many bugs and crashes are fixed. Right now, I find v2 unusable (especially Publisher) and will continue to use v1.10.5 or go back to Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Business must go on.
It's fine to maximize revenue, but from my viewpoint, you do that by making sure your products are stunning and work properly, not by forcing people to upgrade. Isn't that why I originally left Adobe? Thanks for listening.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Sean P in Scaling of path texts via percentage input does not work
Hi Claudia_D
This is currently by design. Frame Text and Path Text actually have two resize handles in the bottom right. The inner most one will just rescale the frame (or path objects) whereas the outer one will also scale the text. The Transform Panel will only ever scale the frame or objects as though you were using the inner handle, so in this case the text will remain unscaled.
However I can see the benefit of having the option the text scale when using a typed value, so I'm going to move this over to the feature requests forum.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Alfred in Custom arrowheads for paths
Very clever, but also very fiddly! It’s probably easier to draw a long, thin hexagon for each line.
We really need the custom arrowheads that the OP asks for.

Claudia_Germany got a reaction from Alfred in Custom arrowheads for paths
I need arrowheads for paths (not as a area) that are exactly as wide as the line width. Unfortunately this can't be set (yet) either (see screenshot), corners stick out at the sides. It would be especially nice if I could create my own arrowheads, like in Illustrator.

Claudia_Germany reacted to Joachim_L in Custom arrowheads for paths
With the Appearance panel you can "stack" several strokes and in this case I used two dashed lines with identical Dash values, but a different Phase for the stroke getting next to the triangle. You have to experiment a bit to get close to what you want.

Claudia_Germany got a reaction from Markio in Please add: Dashed lines with more than 4 entries
Please add: dashed lines with more than 4 entries, so that a line pattern is created e.g. from two long strokes and one small stroke, as in Illustrator.
Greetings, Claudia

Claudia_Germany reacted to dominik in Export or copy section with layer structure?
I'm still a little confused. In your first posting on this page you want to copy an artboard. Now, here you refer to a lasso, but AD does not have a Lasso Tool in it's Vector Persona. This is what puzzles me.
I think I do understand that you want to display a small section of your map in a circle on an artboard in a seperate document. And add some annotations to it. Is this correct?
I would do this with a different approach:
Create a new document and add some artboards (as many you need). Place the file with the map. Placing a file retains its layer structure and if you use multiple copies of the placed file it does not increase the file size of the containing document. Finally mask the placed file e.g. with a circle (and add annotations). Copy the placed and masked file and paste it onto a different artboard. This method allows you to double click on the placed file and edit it in a new tab. Changes made will be part of all representations of the placed file.
This completely leaves out the need to deal with layer order or navigating a multi layer document and gives you very detailed control of what you want to show.
Cheers,
d.
PS: on a side note I spotted a typo in your first screenshot. The second layer from the top is labeled 'Matin-Gropius-Bau'. This most likely should be spelled 'Martin-Gropius-Bau' (note the 'r') 🙂

Claudia_Germany reacted to prophet in Export or copy section with layer structure?
So, a possible solution that use often when needing multiple objects from multiple layers…
- duplicate the entire graphic (all layers and objects)
- select the objects you want to keep (by whatever means you like: lasso, click the objects, layer select, etc.)
- then, with shift held down, draw a selection area around ALL OBJECTS
- this will essentially "invert" the selection and select everything except what you selected previously.
- delete
You should be left with only the objects you want.

Hi Claudia_D,
Thanks for reporting it. We are already aware of this issue. It's logged to be looked at/fixed. Thanks for your support.

Claudia_Germany got a reaction from Jowday in Missing function: Transform again
If I move an object with the Move tool and then want to move a second object by exactly the same value as the first one, is this feature available in Affinity Designer? Like Command+D in Illustrator. If so, where? If not, please can you insert it into the next program version, because it is a very important function.

gibt es neue Informationen zu dieser fehlenden Funktion, RAW Einstellungen auf andere Fotos zu übertragen?
-
Claudia_Germany reacted to stokerg in Mehrere RAW's gleichzeitig entwickeln
-
Claudia_Germany reacted to Joachim_L in Mehrere RAW's gleichzeitig entwickeln (Windows)
IMO a batch processing of RAW files would only make sense, when the images to be processed are nearly identical concerning lighting, sharpness etc. But it would be nice if such a batch processing feature would come in a later version.
