@fatfreemedia - I have just checked with the developers and they have informed me that the changes made between 1.10.2 and 1.10.4 were removed for Mojave so I'm not sure why you are still affected in the 1.10.5 beta.

1.10.4 wasn't still running when the beta was open was it?

I just restarted my laptop, made sure no Affinity applications were open with exception to the 1.10.5.270 Beta build of Affinity Photo, and am still experiencing the same issues with Metal enabled and a blank document open. There are no display issues if I have no documents open as you'll see in this new video which shows that I only have the Beta open. Please note that Designer and Publisher work fine with Metal enabled – it's only Photo.

Please can you try the 1.10.5.270 beta available in the photo macOS beta forum. Let us know if that sorts it out.

@Chris B please can you chase up identifying the problem @fatfreemedia is having which is an apparent regression over 1.10.1 that still exists in 1.10.4 assuming the new beta has the same problems

    Patrick-

No luck, sorry. Still having the same artifacting, etc. And again, this is only with Metal enabled (w/ or w/o 'Enable Metal computer acceleration' checked).

1.10.4 will be released today that addresses the problem of Screen and UI corruption (in 1.10.3) on some desktops.

On the Affinity Store 1.10.4 builds should be available now and on the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store it will roll out worldwide over the next 24-48 hours, as normal.

Please see this announcement post for the link for your particular application

FWIW, this point release did not fix the issues I was having. When I switch to Metal, it goes wonky. I can run the app in OpenGL w/o issue so no bother. I'm on a late 2013 MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave (10.14.6) for reasons related to needing to keep Adobe CS5 still running. Waiting on a new Mac Mini to upgrade my system in the future.

  4. Just updated all three apps to 1.10.3 and only Affinity Photo is having some wonky display issues only if I have a document open and with Metal enabled in performance. If I switch to OpenGL then my issues are fixed. I get a bunch of magenta colored striated lines and my menus are all blown out. I can't screen capture the issue so attaching a photo from my phone. I'm still running OS X Mojave (I know, I know) and have restarted my system as well.

    Hi @fatfreemedia,

I can't replicate the crash either. I wonder if it's fonts/resources related. Can you replicate the crash with MikeTo's files?

I am able to open MikeTo's file w/o issue -- THANK YOU MIKE! I relinked the assets via Resource Manager, resaved, and it appears I can reopen everything w/o it crashing. I would still love to have a clue on why it's crashing from my original files since no assets have changed location or otherwise.

It may take a few go's but you have to have MAS open while you force quit appstoreagent - yes apple is telling people to upgrade to Big Sur which should fix the problem, but like a lot of users, I need CS5 and a few other apps that won't run on anything past Mojave - they've also been telling users to reinstall Mojave which, I' gather is also a temporary fix for the bug   - I also found that booting from an old El Capitan volume and downloading worked - this App Store bug seems to be Mojave specific - Lets hope Apple fix this?

Holy hell, thank you. That ended up doing the trick. I kept the MAS open while killing that process and retried the update. Got to about 95% complete and hung there for a bit but eventually finished. I can't express how thankful I am for the help. Buy you a beer sometime!

  7. Partial progress but Affinity Designer won't update. After killing the 'appstoreagent' process, the App Store now showed the "Update" button next to Affinity Designer as opposed to the "Download from cloud" icon but it still just spins, and spins w/ no apparent progress to installing/updating. This is frustrating. I had contacted Apple Support yesterday and they indicated that I probably needed to update to Big Sur. I can't at the moment because I still require the use of my old InDesign CS5 apps and going to Catalina or Big Sur will kill that ability.

  8. I simply opened the document to begin making some edits. At first I made a bunch of changes, hit CMD+S and Publisher crashed. I then got as simple as (1) open the document, (2) make one text change on page 1, (3) hit CMD+S, (4) crash.

As a sidenote, I absolutely love your products over the same three from Adobe. Sure there are a few features here and there that I've come across that are missing for my needs but things I'm sure you'll add in time. Keep up the good work.

  9. I can report I'm having this exact issue this morning with what it appears you're describing above. A text box that I have on my Master page with some placeholder copy and a pinned icon is causing the crash. When I remove the pinned icon from the Master page, the document saves w/o crashing. These are documents I was working on recently w/o issue until the updating to the latest build (1.8.6). However, I was having a similar problem many months ago that I could never figure out so perhaps it was a related problem to this pinned object. At that time I just rebuilt the documents out of frustration.

Apologies! I thought the issue was solved, but I guess you're still looking for a trigger, not just a fix.

Correct. I'm looking for the trigger along everyone else and appreciate an earlier reply suggesting we save a file along with History and send to the Affinity team. I'm doing my best to notice when it happens and perhaps keeping a log of my history each time it occurs might shed some light for the developers to fix the issue. I'm hoping to help solve this dilemma 'cause it's driving me nuts.

  11. Is it possible to assign separate blend modes for an object stroke and fill with Affinity Designer? For instance I'd like to apply a blend mode of Multiply to the black fill of a rectangle but want to leave the white stroke color as normal.

I have this same question for opacities as well. I ask because I'm able to do this in Illustrator and use it all the time. If there is another way of approaching this in Designer w/o having to duplicate the object (one for fill and one for stroke), please enlighten. Thanks!
